The hotel itself is ancient and could do with quite a lot of refurbishment. Dinner at the hotel offered an excellent main course, on the one hand, and a dessert not even worth finishing, on the other. Breakfast, however, was very good.
Great central location. Excellent food, huge portions and great value for money. Lovely, friendly staff. Quirky building, lots of old features. Great accessible car park. Highly recommend. We will definitely go back.
We spent a night here during the week and found the location very central and the accommodation adequate for our needs. However what stood out for us was the restaurant which is outstanding and deserves 5 stars. We had 2 courses and everything was so tasty especially the fish chowder which was like a main course on its own. It was full of delicious pieces of different types of fish and plenty of it. The main courses had equally generous portions and the bottle of wine we had was top class. We were served by 3 friendly and efficient members of staff and made to feel very welcome. Overall we left with a good impression of Kilkenny and the people we met.
Stayed in this hotel recently with my daughter for two nights. What an absolute pleasure from beginning to end. The location is excellent, and if you are getting the bus to Dublin or Waterford there is a stop around the corner. We had a breakfast and dinner deal on the first night, and cannot emphasize enough how delicious both meals were. So much that we dined there the next day and had lunch on the day we were leaving. The food is all freshly cooked, and the choice is just amazing for the value. The breakfast ranges from porridge to fruit to full Irish with plenty of variations including vegetarian option. The meals are all table service and very prompt. The produce was beautiful with particular reference to the bacon which was very tasty and not watery like it sometimes can be. The eggs were done to perfection too. And the coffee was freshly brewed. The evening meals offer a wide range with offers including 2 and 3 course meals if you don't fancy A le Carte. We had the buffalo wings and scampi as a first course on night one followed by the lemon sole on a bed of mash with stir-fried veg and steak with chunky chips and veg. Both dishes were exemplary. Second night we both had steaks and again the meal was beautiful. The staff are so helpful and very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. A lot of locals seem to dine in the hotel which is always a good sign. The hotel itself is so quaint and full of quirky artefacts and really old style furnishings which compliment the ambience beautifully. There are a good few stairs to be negotiated to the rooms , so if coming with somebody infirm it might be a good idea to let them know. We were not bothered as we enjoyed looking at all the charm oozing in the corridors and stairwells. The rooms are basic but clean and the bed linen is crisp and white. The bathroom towels and Egyptian cotton and a great size too. There is the option of a bath or a shower and the TV has a good few channels and radio stations. The curtains adequately block out the light if needed and the hotel is quiet at night. Everything is on the doorstep including Kilkenny Castle just around the corner and all the shops and pubs etc. All in all I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a really economical but truly enjoyable culinary experience and refreshing stay. We will be back for sure!…
Very disappointed with our stay in the Club House. Even though it was fairly cheap, our room was filthy and outdated. The food was very disappointing too. My advice would be to pay a little extra and stay somewhere decent.
We had a great stay at the clubhouse Hotel. I spoke to Margaret on the phone when booking who was very helpful and gave the group discount. The room was a good size and was clean and comfortable. Food was OK. Location excellent. Staff very friendly. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a place to throw down the head after a night out.
We went here for food for my sons birthday and it was absolutely great, the service was excellent. We were looked after by the lovely staff. There was a really great atmosphere and the food was absolutely outstanding, I'd highly recommend everyone to eat here as the food was amazing. A great experience all round.
Simply cannot fault the Club House. From the olde world decor to the clean room, the great breakfast and the friendly and efficient staff, the place is top class. Receptionist Helen was really kind and very helpful and deserves a special mention. Beds were comfortable too, and everything in the room worked well. Highly recommended.
This is a fantastic hotel for visiting Kilkenny with the medieval mile just round the corner and the castle a five minute walk. The room was just right for the three of us and the breakfasts had an excellent selection with the best fried eggs that I have had in ages. We ate in the hotel on the first night and if I hadn't already booked a local tapas bar for the next night I would have dined in the restaurant for all three evenings. If there is a special on I would seriously recommend it. They have a very good chef. The staff in the bar/dining area were especially helpful and really stuck to the Covid regulations. We all loved the visit and if we are ever in Kilkenny again this is where we will stay.
We stayed on Thursday night 10/Feb i had rang ahead and said it was my friends Bday--and when she arrived at the room they had a Welcome/congrats cake/Card! Yes,its an old hotel, with lots of stairs and corridors But--it was in an amazing ,central location,-the Staff were wonderful,-Free Carpark behind the hotel, the Dining room/Bar so welcomimg -we ended up spending the night at the hotel rather than going to other venues,-We both enjoyed the Curry--and Delicious Home made bread and Butter pudding----and how NICE it was to have Table Service for Breakfast next morning (again--delicious Home-made/wholesome grub) to summarise--it was a convenient//reasonable/very pleasant stay--and we would def recommend ,and go back
