Had a fantastic stay at this hotel. Car parking was very handy, we didnt move the car our whole stay as the hotel is so central to everything. (Castle 2mins walk, also medival mile museum 2 min walk) The staff had lefr a map of the heritage sites in town which we found very helpful. We ate at the hotel for breakfast and for dinner both nights. Food was lovely and plenty of choice on kids menu too. Prices were very reasonable. They made a real fuss over one of our kids for his birthday which made it extra special for him (thank you). Staff are so friendly and helpful. Beds where very comfy, room was basic but as its the oldest hotel in kilkenny we were expecting the rustic charm and we felt it added to the experience. Stairs werent too bad id read reviews so knew to expect them there wasnt as many as id imagined. Will definitley return again and stay here.

We stay here when we’re in Kilkenny & have stayed many times. There’s no lift, no air conditioning, lots of stairs, plenty of passageways, everything shows it’s age, & there are no luxury fixtures. However, it’s got something you rarely find in hotels these days: charm, & it’s got loads of it. Think ‘time capsule’ rather than old. The staff have always been lovely, the parking is v welcome, & when you go out the front door you are slap-bang in the heart of a great little city & everything is nearby. So pass if you need a lift or can’t handle stairs or expect luxury everything, but book in if you enjoy something a lot more interesting than nearly everywhere else!

Although the Staff, our room the food and the location were wonderful, the website fails to mention that this old building does NOT have air conditioners or lifts. One member of our party has COPD and getting upstairs was strenuous.

Overall, the Club House Hotel gives a shabby and uncared-for impression. The stairs are a major disadvantage. 53 of them to reach our room, going up and down! No lift, or even an offer to help with our luggage (we are in our 70s and 80s). The room was not clean (cobwebs and dust), the under sheet was not a fitted one and so kept unravelling in the night and the bathroom was very much in need of updating. Some of the staff were courteous and friendly, others not so. Location is perfect for exploring Kilkenny but there are other hotels in the area which offer much better accommodation. Would not stay here again.

I arrived here for one night with friend. Checkin was 3pm a bit late. I had lunch which was cold and not up to standard the staff were excellent and offered to give my money back. The room could do with extra sockets and updating the shower was cold. The breakfast the next morning was awful. The service by staff was excellent at reception and the bar area. Location was excellent with carparking. The room, the stairways in hotel were outdated carpets, food, was awful. just a place to lay your head down for one night enough said €206 per room not worth that

Great find, this hotel. Brilliant location for everything and everywhere in town centre. Quirky, delightful and charming Hotel, with so much character. The staff here, reception, bar / restaurant were all lovely. Special mention to Ian the manager, for driving me to the car hire rental too. The restaurant food is absolutely lively with great portions.

The Club House has lovingly been cared for by five families throughout its history and much of its charm has been preserved. This means, as other reviews have mentioned, stairs. The building had multiple additions, so there are many many stairs. We are fit and in our 30’s. Getting our two suite cases up and into our room (which was only in the teens) was quite the journey, The room was small for two people. The toilet was, understandably, connected to old plumbing and was finicky. We didn’t try the shower, as it wasn’t clean. The bed was hard as a rock. There was no AC, which makes sense, and the room was stuffy. Opening the window did help this a bit. For the price and location within walking distance to most of Kilkenny it was worth staying in an interesting place for a night. I would likely call one night enough, though, and find other lodging for a return trip, as the hotel room earned 2 stars for me. Having the restaurant on the first floor, though, was really nice. We came in later in the evening and were able to buy a hot meal. The chef’s roast of the day was excellent. Breakfast is included at the restaurant downstairs as well, which was a plus, and they did have options available for those with allergies. The dining options earned a third star for this review. There is also a free car park behind the hotel, which was easy enough for our medium sized Toyota rental car. There were plenty of spots available while we were there and they let us stay in the lot for a while on our last day when we were touring the castle and had already checked out. 3.5 stars, if I could.
