The Newpark Hotel enjoys a reputation for its festive ambiance and welcoming vibe, although the noise level and the need for room refurbishments have been pointed out. While the service is generally celebrated for being attentive, particularly for weddings and families, there have been occasional comments about its inconsistency. Its location is a hit for exploring nearby attractions and easy town access. Rooms are spacious yet some guests have voiced concerns over ventilation and maintenance. Cleanliness is a strong suit, with most areas being spotless, but not without some housekeeping irregularities. The hotel's amenities are family-friendly and highly regarded, notably the Jurassic Park and pool, but updates are suggested. Travelers often consider the pricing steep, especially when it comes to children's activities and dining options.

We visited Sunday just gone for one night, really wish it could have been longer. There's so much to see and do in Kilkenny that you could easily spend the week there. Our arrival to the hotel was excellent. As it was Sunday afternoon the hotel was very busy with dinner guests. However there are three car parks, so parking is never an issue. Check in was seamless and completed very quickly. We had a superior room on the first floor and it was lovely. All very standard; king size bed with another single bed in the room also. The bathroom was excellent with a separate shower and bath. The shower was a waterfall one and very powerful. We didn't eat in the restaurant or drink in the bar but had breakfast the next morning. It was excellent with many options. You could also have more options such as pancakes or eggs benedict for a surcharge. What was included was plenty for us though. The hotel has excellent facilities for families that we noticed as we have a young child who was not with us this time. There were plenty of children there during the day and some younger ones who stayed over. However, there was no disruption once you were in the room. The pool was full of kids on the Monday but it is big enough that you can still relax and have your own time. The sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were adults only, so that was great. The playground and petting farm were excellent as well and the kids seemed to be really enjoying it. The best part of this hotel though were all the small touches which really set this hotel apart from the others as there is so much competition in Kilkenny. For example, they had little steps at the reception desk for the kids, juice in the terrace for the kids to help themselves to. A lovely big swing hanging from a tree in the garden. Highchairs in the pool changing rooms so that parents can actually dry themselves when they've a young child with them. I loved the heated floor in the bathroom of the room, was an excellent touch on a cold February morning! The best thing i think, and the most unique (although it shouldn't be!) was the family room located on the first floor. I read about these in the hotel information and so went to see what they were like. They have a kids room with games, consoles, and softplay, which is excellent. Then they also have a family room specifically for parents of young kids with a seating area for breastfeeding, a phone for reception, highchairs and baby dens, a microwave, steriliser and fridge for you to store and make up baby/toddlers food. The staff were all excellent, no complaints whatsoever. The only downside to my stay was that I live a bit too far to come more regularly!

Myself and my family recently visited Newpark Hotel for my 30th Birthday and I cannot recommend this hotel enough.

From the moment we walked through the door we felt like royalty, the friendly reception team were on hand to assist us with whatever we needed throughout or stay. Every member of staff we came across had a smile on their face and was ready to grant any request.

We visited the Terrace bar for cocktails and food, the Restaurant for dinner where we were looked after extremely well especially as I am a fussy eater and our daughter was giving colours and pages to keep her occupied.

The farm, playground and swimming pool onsite were a big hit with our 6 year old and she kicked up such a fuss about going home we decided to stay an extra night. The games room on the second floor was also visited frequently and the parenting room came in very handy for sterilising our baby bottles. Everything we needed for our stay was provided by the hotel.

My partner booked me in for a massage on our second day and it was so good that I booked him in with the same girl on our third day! All the spa facilities are stunning especially the outdoor Vitality pool!

We cant wait to return and are planning our next stay with Newpark! Well done to Management and staff!

We had a fantastic stay at the Newpark Hotel. It was our first staycation and we felt very safe. The hotel was busy but not crowded and social distancing was followed, all staff wore masks or visors and tables and seats were thoroughly disinfected. The room was disinfected and sealed for us on arrival. Our room was spacious, tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean.
There is online booking through the webpage for pool, dinner, breakfast, afternoon tea etc. I booked dinner and breakfast times in advance.
We ate in Gullivers restaurant and it was sooo tasty. The duck starter was great, the fillet was cooked perfectly and the assiette dessert was melt in the mouth. After dinner we relaxes and enjoyed the live music in the lobby.
Couldn't fault breakfast there was plenty of choice - a continental buffet and full Irish. Toast and coffee were served to the table.
We took some time to relax the outdoor tranquility area. It was great to chill with lovely relaxing music in the heated outdoor infinity pool overlooking a gorgeous garden with a beautiful oak tree.
Wish we had been able to stay longer in Newpark. We'll be back again soon.

Just home this evening from a two night stay in Newpark hotel, Kilkenny

We booked an executive room which was so nice, the bed was one of the most comfortable we’ve ever slept in in a hotel. I was very disappointed to spend that much money on a room and find no bath, something I always enjoy when we go away. However I’m confident that had I rang or ran down to reception to request a room with a bath I most likely would have been accommodated, but still for a room defined as “executive” I would definitely expect a bath.

We were in room 158 and the drilling over the last two afternoons was insanely loud, for what seemed like all day long. We went away to relax and there were actually moments we could barely converse as a result of the volume.

We left from 9am to 2pm and our room still hadn’t been cleaned even though we had the sign on the door, surely there should be somewhat of a system whereby the rooms with signs requesting services are checked and cleaned first?

On Pancake Tuesday we ordered pancakes for breakfast of course, and they were very very poor. Just packaged pancakes with a bit of fruit thrown on top, not on par at all with the quality I expected. Breakfast staff were lovely but even having already paid for breakfast, we didn’t even bother going on our second morning, very lacklustre.

In the terrace bar on our first day (monday) our chicken wings took a little longer than obviously the staff expected (we didn’t mind at all, barely even noticed any delay) and we got a voucher for 2 free drinks off Florin? (So hoping I have his name right) who was just so nice, apologising and compensating for something we had no problem with to begin with. The service across the hotel was exceptional, to be fair. Bar staff in Scott’s, terrace bar and reception staff on both check in and check out were so friendly and sincere.

Despite the mentioned flaws we had such a nice time and I wouldn’t be deterred from returning if I wished to visit Kilkenny again, but just some improvements that could really be seen to.

Firstly, let me say this is an ideal hotel for family's. The farm at the back is amazing and the little fairy village is just fantastic. Credit due for all of that. We could see how family's were totally catered for.

But this is not a hotel for couples. We were so disappointed. We stayed B&B last week for 4 nights. For the money we paid (€920) for four nights B& B, it was very very bad value for money. We booked one of the balcony suites and we had no problems there, lovely room. spotless. When we got there we had to break the seal on the door, so we knew the room was thoroughly cleaned. Our problem was the breakfast we were offered. It is not the breakfast we would expect for the money we paid. We have stayed in some beautiful hotels all over the world, and the one thing we always love is coming down and having a nice breakfast handed to you.
All of the cereal in boxes, cornflakes, rice krispies, Frosties, all children's cereals. No fresh yogurt, ok when I complained I was told they could not have bowls of yogurt out with everyone handling the spoon. All of the yogurt that was out was all flavored, when I asked I was told no plain yogurt. Neither of us would eat cooked food that has been sitting there, I cannot see why a freshly cooked breakfast was not offered. So each morning we made up a bowl of fruit for ourselves and had a piece of toast.

So annoying when our friends staying in a hotel in the town were sending us photos of the beautiful cooked breakfast they were having, which included a bowl of fresh fruit and fresh yogurt. Half the price that we had paid.

I really wanted to support our hotels this year and spend our money at home but we had another two trips organised and we are seriously thinking of cancelling as this is crazy money to spend and not be satisfied.

€920 is just too much money to spend on four nights and come away very dis-satified.

However we did really our stay in Kilkenny. The walk into the town is a lovely walk, we visited the Castle and the Cathedral, both great visits. We also found some really good restaurants for evening meals, & then a lovely walk back to the hotel. Beautiful walks all along the river.

I stayed here for a night with my husband. We had never been before. All in all our stay was nice and the hotel is lovely. The rooms are nice and the lobby area is lovely as is the Terrace area. We also checked out the pet farm and playground, go karts and fairy trail behind the hotel and it's a lovely place for kids. We didn't eat in the hotel but had a drink in the lobby and the bar and it was nice. However there were some things that i feel should be addressed. Upon check in, we were not welcomed to the hotel. The receptionist asked for our name and gave us the form to sign etc but didn't engage in welcoming us or tell us about where breakfast was served etc. She wasn't very welcoming to say the least! She also answered the phone during check in and i feel that your face to face customers should take precedence over other enquiries. I'm not sure if this girl is new to the hotel but there was an instance during our stay where she gave us incorrect information also. We enquired about going to the gym due to COVID and she said to book through the app. I ended up calling to ask where the app was located and she said it was in the email we were sent from the hotel but it wasn't. At breakfast, the service was quite poor. Our order for tea/coffee and toast wasn't brought til we had finished our breakfast about 30 mins after we sat down. The waitress apologised and maybe they are having some teething issues opening up after the lockdown but it's the simple things that make a difference. The day we were checking out, a girl from housekeeping knocked on our door three times to ask if we wanted the room cleaned. We informed her that we were checking out that day and would have it vacated by 12pm. When she knocked on our door for the third time, i almost felt like she was trying to get us to leave early or something! Very strange. Again maybe she is new and inexperienced but it's things like this that leave an impression on you. The hotel is nice, very centrally located etc but perhaps they need to do more training with their staff and solve some of the issues that we experienced during our stay. We have two small kids and thought the facilities for kids are great but we would be hesitant to return until some of these issues are resolved.

Myself and my boyfriend booked a night here as a valentines night away. We paid extra for an executive room and my boyfriend paid even extra to have a bottle of prosecco, chocolates and rose petal turn down at the room when we arrived. When we arrived at the room none of this was done. After paying over €200 for one night this was very disappointing, on a valentines weekend I would have thought staff and management would be more attentive to checks ins. We eventually got our arrival treats 2 hours after checking in. We decided to dine out of hotel When we ordered two cocktails which took 30 minutes to arrive and we weren’t chancing that service for our valentines night away. The next morning we went to breakfast at 7 probably the first down. I’m a coeliac but there breakfast menu online showed that they had a pretty decent gluten free selection so I was hopeful. I asked the lady working breakfast for some gluten free toast to be told “we don’t have this” , now the day before I had gotten gluten free bread with my soup without a problem. She was the most unhelpful waitress , she didn’t offer my boyfriend any toast, didn’t ask if we wanted anything from the kitchen. I didn’t eat anything from the hot food counter as my boyfriend said it was mostly cold. There was two gluten free cereals but no non dairy milk available. I had high hopes for such a big hotel to be able to cater for allergies but I was completely let down. My boyfriend eventually got the waitresses attention long enough to order eggs Benedict which was completely overpriced given that it was the same bacon they use in the hot counter and was in fact cold. I left breakfast rather hungry after only eating dry cereal. We said we would go for a coffee at 9 in the terrace where we waited 20 minutes without service so decided to go to the main bar where we were told by who I presume was the manager that “the terrace does lovely coffee go out there” there seemed to be no waitresses serving coffee out there so when we went back we stayed at the terrace bar until eventually someone noticed us . We ordered two pints of water and two americanos which again took 15 minutes to arrive. I would understand if the hotel was busy but it was empty. We were not the only people that noticed this as when I was leaving I saw another lady walk to the bar to ask where her coffees were. The lack of customer service we were shown was rather deflating and I could write lots more. We are a young couple but I bet had we been a few years old and seen as potential wedding customers the level of customer service would have been higher. I think a greater level of attention to EVERY customer is needed. Would not return to stay at this hotel and our valentines night away was rather deflating.

Myself my wife and two year old spent two nights in the hotel in August. We had chosen it with our two year old in mind, as it had soft play area, animal farm and swimming pool.
We had initially tried to book a balcony room but were informed this was not possible as we had a child and policy that children could not be in the room. This was okay, until seeing blogger "wolfe mama" with a video showing she stayed in such a room with children. When raising this at check in we were adamantly told that it has always been the policy and its not possible anybody with children stayed in the room. That was an annoying start to our break when there is a video on the internet to the contrary and when we asked if policy may have changed (which would be understandable) we were again quite adamantly told no it has never changed.
On our first night we had dinner in Gullivers restaurant, on the expectation it was of a higher standard than other restaurants in the hotel and we wanted to start our break with a good meal or at least a better standard that bar/bistro food. We had mains (steaks) and a dessert, although there was only one dessert available for selection (an assiette of deserts). A single dessert selection was strange, considering the website states "Our dinner menu is most popular with guests, but many come to dine with us simply for dessert." Surprising that people would visit just for dessert when only one dessert on the menu, an assiette of desserts, is still just a single dessert choice. Our steaks were overcooked and was surprised to see that the 5 euro supplement for the steaks was still charged despite us not having a starter, only ordering one dessert, and having already paid for the 3 course meal for two as part of our deal for the room. In addition we were charged 9 euro for pasta for a two year old. Lastly, later in our visit I noted that there was a degree of overlap between the menu for Gullivers and other restaurants in the hotel.

Food in other parts of the hotel was no better, a simple chicken wrap on the terrace was clearly made, not with freshly cooked chicken, but cold processed chicken from a bag as you may expect in a deli counter. Our toddlers chicken goujons were cold and when asked for hot ones we got the same ones back reheated.
The food in the hotel truly was disappointing and a let down, and one member of staff did admit to us that the food was not great when we mentioned it.
As for the other amenities, we did select the hotel with our toddler in mind, he enjoyed the pool, the process for pool visits runs very well, the animal farm and play area were certainly acceptable for a two year old and he enjoyed it, the "soft play area" however left a lot to be desired and any photos that can be found of it would show why.
Normally we would be very Irish, and not even mention our displeasure but we did raise the issues at checkout and were told a manager would be in contact, which they have not been, therefore I am posting our review here.
Based on my visit I've advised my sister in law to cancel her trip in Spetember as it's not exactly cheap and money would be better spent elsewhere such as an activity parc in Longford where you get what you pay for.

We decided to go away for Christmas 2020 and I was a little apprehensive as to what it would be like as we'd never stayed at a hotel for Christmas before but it was the best decision. From the moment we arrived we felt so well looked after and the whole experience was an absolute treat, especially after the previous endless months of covid restrictions.

As soon as we arrived Amy on the front desk welcomed us and gave us all the details for the few days, which were quite extensive due to Covid restrictions, but they were communicated very clearly. Everything was well organised with breakfast, lunch, dinner and pool reservations all made in advance and at times that suited us.

So on to the food... we are a family of 4 with a veggie mum, gluten intolerant dad and 2 small children so not that easy to please but I'm happy to say that the food did not disappoint at all. Dinner, including christmas dinner was fantastic and the kids couldn't believe they got to meet Santa and even got a very cool present delivered to our room. This was completely unexpected and just added to the whole experience.

The kids club in the evenings from 7pm - 10pm was great too, the boys went in no problem and played with the toys and watched some movies. The only thing I would say is that the Kid's Club supervisors might need to think about the age rating on the movies when the children are so young (4 & 5) but this didn't cause much upset and is something they just need to be made aware of.

The pool was a good temperature and really well run, we never had to worry there would be too many people etc.

I didn't get everyone's names but I noted some staff who I felt went above and beyond to make everyone's stay even more special. Liam in housekeeping was so helpful, John and Aoife in food service and Caoimhe and Aga were all really exceptional. There was also a great welcome to Breakfast in the mornings, particularly by a girl with a Christmas Tree hat/hairband on :) but I didn't get her name. It felt like all the staff were doing their utmost to ensure everything ran smoothly and nothing was too much trouble. It's the first hotel I've stayed in where every single member of staff made it feel so welcoming and all added to the superb atmosphere.

We're about to book again for the summer and if we decide to go away next Christmas again Newpark would be top of our list

I stayed at the Newpark hotel for two nights during August 2020 with my wife and twin daughters aged 13 years. I picked the hotel having stayed many years ago, probably too long ago to have a clear memory of the hotel and accommodation. The first thing I have to say is that the Newpark team really undersells what is actually on offer in terms of the level of activities for the children, allowing parents to relax and unwind. I would recommend this hotel 100% to anyone with young kids- swimming pool, superb kids club, an outdoor petting zoo with exclusive access for their guests to enjoy, a magical outdoor fairy and gnome world, build a bear, kids club, games room, small cinema and complementary milk and cookies each evening.
My wife and I were pleasantly surprised at the quality and choice of food available at the brasserie restaurant plus the prices were very reasonable.
We chose adjoining rooms and again the bedding and general cleanliness was perfect with a nice range of complimentary Voya cosmetics in our bathroom. Beds were comfortable and pillows quite decent.
Newpark also have an Aveda health spa although we never had a chance to visit it, maybe next time.

All in all a great hotel, well done guys!

I’d definitely recommend the kids clubs.. The staff are are so friendly and helpful.. The kids definitely won’t be bored at all.. The animal farm they have is amazing, my daughter spent most of her time visiting the animals every day and every evening she wanted to go down and even named all the animals.. Have to say my daughter, my husband and I didn’t want to leave.. One of The best hotels we’ve ever stayed in.. Absolutely love it.. You’ll all have a fantastic experience.. x

Can kids use tge outdoor infinity pool?

Hi. No it's an adult only pool and basically true to every outdoor pool as they are hot tubs effectively so not suitable to anyone below 16 years old. They have a huge pool indoors anyway which would be ideal for families with young kids or take turns with another adult - i.e. one going to outdoor pool while the other is minding kids and vice versa. Enjoy!
