Hotel Kilkenny receives mixed feedback from guests; while the rooms are often celebrated for their spaciousness and the clean pool area is a highlight, some visitors feel the need for a refresh in terms of decor and modern amenities. The atmosphere strikes some as vibrant, yet others find it lacking.
Opinions on value for money tilt towards the negative, with reports of overpriced accommodations and subpar food quality. Service quality seems inconsistent, ranging from warm and efficient to slow and disorganized.

My husband and I once again had the pleasure of checking into one of our favorite hotels in Ireland Hotel Kilkenny the service, cleanliness and comfort is always of the highest standard there and we always leave looking forward to returning again I have recommended this hotel to my friends and family and no one has ever been disappointed.
The room we were given was beautiful with a big glass doors opening up to a lovely balcony and the bathroom was beautifully decorated with a huge shower.
Unfortunately the night we arrived we got an emergency call from home so at 10:30 pm after a beautiful dinner we had to check out . The hotel fully refunded our payment without question.we were due to stay three days b&b evening meal included.
I can not thank them enough for the compassion they showed us and we can’t wait to return and repay them for their kindness ever hotel is struggling at the moment but they put us first.

Had reserved a night last minute at hotel Kilkenny due to recommendation. We had been allocated a triple room with extra camp bed for my nearly 4yr old which was perfect!
We mainly chose the hotel as we were recommended its leisure facilities were one of the top for 4* rating. When we arrived at the pool changing rooms were a bit cold with the cold air blowing overhead when changing, floors were pretty dirty with hair everywhere. Not sure if this was the norm for midterm and when they have swimming lessons as everyone was wearing their shoes while showering their kids after lessons in the shower area.
The pool itself felt cold and you couldn’t get comfortable while supervising kids, felt like you had to be constantly swimming to warm up.
We sampled the bar food and it was ok. Bar itself lacked atmosphere.
On the plus point the kids club and staff were amazing! Our nearly 6yr old since day one refused to go to any kids clubs while staying in hotels even our younger one, but not this time they absolutely loved it and would jot want to leave! The girls who were supervising were so welcoming and nice which made the kids very secure and comfortable in staying.
Breakfast was ok with cold buffet option and you could order hot food from menu.
Over all I think the price was a little to steep as We could have stayed in more superior 4* for same price but decided to give this hotel a go due to its recommendation. Not sure if I would come back for this price again.

We received a call on the morning before check in to be told that there was a problem with our room which we booked 2 months in advance and that the only room left available for us was with a wheelchair accessible toilet which was really disappointing. We then arrived in at 12pm to to check in to be told the room wouldn't be ready until the afternoon which was fine with us but we did ask to book dinner for the evening to also be told that there was only 1 slot available in the restaurant at 8.30 so we had no choice but to take that time slot, we then wanted to book a swim in the pool facilities that also was booked up with just one slot available at 7pm I find this extremely bad considering we arrived so early. We went on with our day anyway to return in the afternoon to check in and go to the room to find it was room number 203 the very first room in the hotel which I think is never really used except in emergency situations like when they double book, the bed was sunken down in the middle and was extremely small, there was no air conditioning and the rooms were boiling even after opening of the window. We got ready to go and dine for dinner at 8.30 to wait untill 8.45 to eventually be seated then we waited untill 9pm untill somebody came and took our order. My partner ordered the goats cheese starter which at 9.30 we were told they didn't have any more so she needed to order again. She got the sirloin steak as her main and asked for it to be cooked med-well and when it arrived it was very very well done and completely inedible, I myself ordered the chicken gyozas which were lovely and as my main I went for the chicken supreme wrapped in cured ham. When this arrived out to the table it was in fact a chicken breast wrapped in a bacon rasher, false advertisement on the menu. I did raise my complaint with the young man serving our table and he said he would speak with the chef, my partner was asked if she wanted a new steak which would take 15 mins more to arrive and at this stage it was almost 10pm so she refused. We then waited to see if anybody would come to take a desert order or if we would like another drink but this didn't happen so I was so angry at this stage I went to find a manger myself. Joanna the manger on duty arrived and to be fair she was extremely nice and completely took care of us making sure we got a free drink and that she spoke with the chef. She did everything she could to make us that bit happier. We are just so annoyed at how bad the whole experience was in the hotel and considering it was our one night away we felt like it was just completely ruined by all that had happened right from the start and don't think we would ever want to return which is such a shame.

Stayed here with my partner for one night we were very disappointed. Hotel is overpriced rooms need updating along with bar and restaurant. Had lunch outside we were left waiting on cutlery for some time after getting our food. We ordered pints with our lunch coors light served in carlsberg glasses service wasnt good, staff seemed to be all over the place not knowing what to do. We had food later on in the bar wasnt presented well and came out very quickly and unfortunately wasnt very tasty. The bar tables were not being wiped clean before being seated with the times that we are in with the covid this should be priority of the staff to keep up cleanliness. We then had to move down to the orchard bar after 8pm which was the function room to continue having drinks. Was no atmosphere down there after 10pm our drinks order went up by 3euro. Breakfast room which is also the restaurant was very much in need updating we went down early as when we were checking in we were told that after 9am there could be que for a table we were unable to book table for breakfast but we could book our table in bar for 6.30 for food which had to be done over the phone while the booking was made. We were still in breakfast room after 9am and was not atal busy and food again was very bland pouched eggs were rock hard and placed on soggy piece of toast which was very unappealing rashers burnt to crisp. Shower that morning in room was atrocious shower head very badly blocked was nearly any water to coming out, rooms very hot all night we had not got window to leave opened our room had patio door which I had to get up and open at 6am as we could not sleep with the heat. I for sure would bot be returning to hotel kilkenny.

We went as a family of 8 and this is my opinion only.
I was under impressed with the lobby area. The seating is not in the least bit comfortable. A huge (and I mean huge) chair near the entrance to the bar is completely out of place, as is the 8 foot chaise longue. They need to invest in completely different furniture. The bar layout is odd. The bar seems too big for the room in a long, narrow room. There is an ante-room off the bar which is quieter but not much seating.
The bedrooms we were given were on the 3rd floor. On getting out of the lift I was struck by the obviously frayed carpeting, not what I expect from a 4* hope. The bedroom is decorated with, to me, is gaudy furniture. The grey carpet looked new but I don't think it will look new for long. The beds were comfortable to be honest, however the room was extremely warm and I couldn't find any controls. The 1990's rang and wanted their bathroom back !! Very dated.
We ate in the bar the first night and the tables and chairs do not allow this to be done comfortable at all. *However, the food was very good*.
We ate in the restaurant the following night but had been shown the wrong menu earlier in the day and were told the restaurant menu was still the Christmas menu and there was very little on it that anybody wanted. But, fair play to them, they allowed us to order off the bar menu.
The breakfast.........not impressed ! The Full Irish option was sausage, egg, bacon, black pudding, beans and toast. What happened to the potato bread, soda bread?
Positives - staff were pleasant, food was tasty, comfortable beds, swimming pool.
Negatives - poor lobby, poor bedroom & bathroom decor, poor bar seating arrangement.

My boyfriend and I spent two nights here after Christmas. The trip really fell short of our expectations. When we arrived on 28 December to check in we were greeted by a young blonde receptionist. She literally asked for our names when we arrived and asked for payment. She didn't provide us with any information about breakfast, pool times, distance to the city centre etc. That was a really bad first impression and she really needs to work on her customer service skills.
There was no water provided or coffee/tea making facilities in the room either, although the room was clean it was really quite basic.
The hotel is about a 15-20 minute walk from the city, which is absolutely fine for a young couple like us, but older couples should consider this.
Also there was no atmosphere really in the bar in the hotel, service wasn't great... bar staff seemed like I was annoying them each time I asked for a drink.
Overall it was okay. Would we return again? No.

Got a really good deal on SuperValu breaks for b n b for about €90 for two people . Lovely trendy decor. Had lunch outdoors in sun drenched terrace. Staff very friendly and chatty. Omelettes not on breakfast menu but as the chef wasn’t too busy they accommodated me which not all hotels would do . Thumbs up for that. Didn’t use spa or pool but will be back and try out. About 15 min walk into the town so nice and close with no noise issues you get in the town. If you’re eating dinner in town during Covid times book in advance or you won’t get in. Would recommend Sullivan’s as hotel bar was dead at nighttime.

Upon arriving at Hotel Kilkenny the hotel looked lovely and the outdoor area for the bar looked particularly appealing. Unfortunately this was the best thing about the hotel.
Check in was quick, we had a booking for dinner in the restaurant for 7 but was told if we wanted drinks in the bar before/after we would need to make separate reservations. This seemed a but unnecessary. We have stayed in several hotels with the covid regulations and bars have always been walk in.
It was also annoying that slots at the pool were pretty much booked for our entire stay. Thankfully we had phoned ahead and managed to get a slot on our 2nd day and checkout morning. It was fully booked on the day of check-in. Slots were not convenient for us but we rescheduled our plans around them. The pool was lovely and changing rooms were clean.
We decided to eat in the bar instead of restaurant, menu looked nice however food was OK but not great. Both pints that we ordered seemed to have an odd taste. The following day we ordered toasted sandwiches, the ham In both was inedible, appeared to be fatty off cuts from a joint of ham.
Our room was on the 3rd floor, it was a very clean large double room all painted white, even the furniture! Seemed an attempt to modernise the room but failed. Carpet was stained, no plug sockets by bed - only 2 in the room. Bed very uncomfortable with mattress springs being felt. It is currently a heatwave so was expecting the room to be warm, but it seemed so much warmer than the rest of the hotel. A pity that there was no Aircon. Bathroom was very outdated. Flush didn't always work properly and shower head appeared to be blocked. Overall, this was not a 4 star hotel room.
Staff were all very friendly but unfortunately this could not make up for the fact that this hotel would find it hard to pass for 3 stars let alone 4 , can't help but feel ripped off after paying €350 to stay here for 2 nights.

The majority of the hotel staff were scatty in their duties with a negative attitude and moved very slow, staff need more training especially in terms of how to host a wedding.
Hotel room was very unpleasent. Mold found in grout of tiles in bathroom with a horrible smell overall. Worst of all I found a used teabag in a paper cup when I went to make a coffee the next morning Really is not a 4 star hotel and their price should reflect their standard.
