The hotel itself is fine, room was fine but there seems to be mixed messages with these new covid rules and regulations and after paying €284 to stay one night for a couple the place should be run better. First we rang ahead a day before we arrived to book dinner which is fine and we asked over the phone if we had to book a place at the bar for drinks after dinner or mid day and we where told no it OK just to come and go to the as we please which we found out was different on arrival as we booked in at reception. Booking we was where told the room won't be ready until 4pm this seem a late time as check out time is 12 mid day. We ask could we use the swimming while we waited the reception rang the pool and book us in for a swim which was good the pool is well run nice and clean they supplied the towel and lockers. After the swim we got into our room all good on that end nice clean airy room up on the 3rd floor. So dinner was OK and once again for €284 it should be better starter where fine my partner had soup I had a salad all good. The main we both ordered slow cooked BBQ beef, potato and savoy cabbage which the beef lacked taste and not up to scratch for a four star hotel meal all the waiting staff where good helpful and very nice to deal with. So then we headed to the bar which we where had to book after the miscommunication early with the reception so we where led to our seats and left there and told a server would be around to take our drinks order after 20 minutes and multiple server passed us without attending to our table I stopped one of them and asked could we please order a drink and I was told that we weren't seated in his area and he couldn't take our order but he would sent someone over to us a further 10 minutes later I masked up and head into the bar only to be to by another server he couldn't bring me drinks as another server was allocated to our area and he points out the original server who told us we weren't in his area . So off I go the server No. 1 again and ask if there is any chance of a drink as we where now waiting over 30 minutes waiting on an drinks order to be taking eventually drinks arrived and the lack of server problem seemed to get sorted as 2 server were now working our area. Also earlier in the day we spotted a car had left it lights on in the car park so we informed the receptionist to do a good turn for someone and we where told due to new covid rules they can not make notice over the p. a system which I found very strange and bad form. So overall we had a nice stay but there is a need for better info and communication from staff and reception and phone staff we have no problem following covid rules as long as it's the same rules are through out the hotel and all are singing from the same song sheet.

We stayed in hotel kilkenny the Monday night of the June bank holiday weekend for one night , check in was good and we were in our room for 4pm which is the check in time , we had a deluxe double room with a balcony , I asked if I could have a room with a bath but was told at reception that this was not possible in a deluxe room but we could have a standard room with a bath if we wanted , I don't understand why a deluxe room wouldn't have a bath option , as it is supposed to be "deluxe" and I assume a bath would be more luxurious than a shower , we decided to keep the deluxe room with a shower as we wanted a nice room , the room was very big but had a lot of unused and empty space which could've had been used better , the carpet had stains on it which I didn't expect from a 4 star hotel especially since it states the room are recently refurbished , the pillows are also rock hard although the bed was comfortable and king-size , I had seen into other rooms being cleaned which were standard rooms and looked the same as our "deluxe room " , for an extra 40€ , a standard room is just as nice , we had booked dinner in the hotel which we were told was 3 courses for 32€ , on arrival for dinner at our booked time we were told our table had been given to other people and we were left waiting until the staff decided they would put us up the back of the restaurant where there was nobody else seated , we were the only two people in this section of the restaurant , we ordered our starters which were out in a matter of seconds , probably not the best sign when you assume the food is made to order , I got goats cheese aracini which was disgusting , I always eat goats cheese and I can assure you this tasted nothing like it , greasy and stodgey with no flavour , I sent it back and was still charged when we received our bill , my partner told the waiter we were not paying for the starter as it was sent back and was inedible , the waiter then took our money to pay for the bill and never gave us any change back , at this point we just wanted to leave the restaurant and we were not charged the correct amount for a 3 course meal for 32€ , the food is far too over priced for the quality and service , the bar food which we ate at lunch was much better and half the price , the swimming pool was nice but looks much better in pictures than it does in person , breakfast the next morning was good , I had asked for a croissant and glass of water with my fry but only received the fry so I asked again for my drink and croissant , I had seen various other tables getting the same thing, after 20 minutes from ordering a staff member told me they were all out of croissants when I had seen others receiving them from the time I ordered until the time I had to ask again , staff need to be better at serving customers and not forget their orders , overall the major let down of our stay was the meal in the taste restaurant and for a 4 star hotel I expected a lot more , I have stayed in much nicer hotels with better service .

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights and received excellent service from the moment we arrived. The hotel is just a short walk (15 mins) from the town. It has a lovely bar and a great leisure centre with a pool, gym and sauna. The bar had a good selection of cocktails and the food was very nice. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff were very pleasant in catering for any of our needs. The breakfast was delicious and had something to suit everyone.

We stayed here for a night on Sunday. All the staff were very pleasant and everything was set up safely and all covid compliant. I had made an error on my booking.com account , I cancelled it by accident however when we arrived down, the manager quickly resolved this and booked us in, they honoured the booking.com rate also even though it had gone up. The next morning we missed breakfast (only criticism- maybe breakfast could run a little longer on bank holidays) but none the less we were greeted by another manager who arranged for us to have tea and toast - free of charge. Overall it was a lovely first experience since the reopening - and I will be a returning customer as Kilkenny is a lovely town.

Positives: Seating areas in bar and restaurant were socially distanced. Plenty of hand sanitising stations around hotels and on tables. Seemed clean. Nice large pool. Negatives: Drinks: The white wine I received was completely gone off. ? Old bottles from before lockdown. I noticed a couple in front of me handing back their red wine also. Food: Breakfast plates were extremely hot ? Reheated under grill, and the food had a film on it. For both dinner and breakfast, it was 30 mins before we had received one drink. Breakfast was finished before we got hot drinks (we asked multiple staff). All the food was very bland/very old fashioned menu. Service: Any requests, i.e to give us a drink we ordered/or cutlery resulted in staff seeming annoyed. The waitresses went to take our plates away 10 minutes into us eating dinner (we were still visibly eating). When we did receive drinks, it was just a bottle of water, no glasses. Took another 2 requests and 10 minutes. Ordered water at reception to the room (bar suggested that vs us bringing it up). They wrote it on a post it and took our room number. 4 days later I am still waiting- very thirsty! After dinner, there was no room in the bar or lobby or outside (we were told we cant book bar for drinks after dinner). We were informed to have our drinks in our room for the evening. I understand that they can’t over crowd the bar. But they didn’t seem to care that we had no where to sit in the hotel and gave no assistance or waiting system for a table. We highlighted the poor service to the manager who did not seem interested/concerned and kept repeating “it is due to COVID 19 restrictions”. The hotel decor is very dated and chairs/carpets very old. Look and feel of max 3 star. The restaurant in particular is very old fashioned snd old/cold feeling, with very uncomfortable small chairs. The temperature in the bar is very cold, I noticed lots of people with jackets on, even though it was much warmer in the lobby.
