I booked for wk-end of 23&24th Oct 2021. I arrived at the address & couldn't find the place as the name Arch Guest house doesn't exist. You might arrive at The Gate Lodge at the same address! It loks a run doan place. I walked that street thoroughly &didn't make a mistake. I rang the number that's on the website;which was also the number I rang when making the booking. The person answering denied any knowledge of discussions even though my phone record is evidence. I had to find alternate accommodation. I reported to the Garda station in Kilkenny & they followed up.

The good is that the location is great. Right across from a Smithwick’s. The room was clean. The very poor, no hot water either of the two nights we were there which meant for ice cold showers. The room was never serviced during our stay. The room was very noisy. Not just from people but from some sort of appliance or something turning on and off non stop. If you are desperate for a last minute place to stay in a good location it may be worth it but otherwise stay away.

Broken staircases. Broken chairs. Broken beds. No shower door. Filthy carpets. Noisy, very noisy! No reception, no security or somebody to take control over drunk people slamming doors and wake the entire place! We had no sleep. No free parking. No maintenance. A total ripp off. Curtains not properly fitted. Broken electrical sockets.

On arriving in Kilkenny we walked up and down Parliament Street and couldn’t see any sign for The Arch Guesthouse. A friendly restaurant worker directed us to number 11 which had a sign naming it as The Gatelodge but a sticker on the door said to check into the Arch go to the Metropole Hotel. So up the street with our suitcases again to get our room key, back and up three flights of stairs. The smell got worse every step we climbed. On reaching our room we discovered room service staff still working on the room. It was 7pm! They announced the bed was wet. A glimpse inside revealed cans of cider and a foul stench. No way were we paying €120 for that! Back down stairs, up the street and waited 10 minutes for staff to refund us. Stay away, stay well away!

We stayed 1 night in a dump of a room ... terrible smell, the bedding and towels were clean at least. We should have asked for money back and found other accommodation but felt bad for the worker. Breakfast was included but when we went to the pub down the road (we were advised this was where to go) - they were surprised anyone turned up at 9.00am as the chef didn’t start until 10.00 😳

This place has no redeeming factors. It's a KIP. Dirty/broken shower/broken sink/no radio or TV / no drinking glass/ and you guessed No tea making vacillate/ no reception had to go down the road to get keys. Guy behind bar hadn't a clue what was going on It is a disgrace to the lovely city of Kilkenny

Had to check into a pub/reception area to get our keys and walk down the road to the guesthouse. While walking to the room the carpet were so dirty which wasn’t given me much hope for the rooms. The room was basic as it comes. Rush on the bed base where they could have used a valence sheet to cover it. One bed side lamp that didn’t work, shower only had half a door so when the water ran it was all over the floor. When u turn on the toilet light the fan ran continually for at least 40 minutes. Plus when other guests used the toilet the noise was horrendous. This place was noisy from start to finish. The rate was €130 room only this was extremely high considering the accommodation is so bad. Would not be recommending this place to anyone.

Will do as somewhere to put your head down if there’s nothing else available in Kilkenny or budget is tight. Rooms are fine but the general experience is more the issue no signs outside, check in is in pub, pics online aren’t really as described, unbelievably noisy. I wouldn’t really call it a “guesthouse” it’s basically a cheap bed for stag and hens and nothing more. If you’re expecting anything else stay away.

In Kilkenny for a bridge weekend - such a lovely town - what a pity that this Guesthouse was so very expensive -€130 a night -for one person , the bath had no stopper (was it to save on hot water?) no glass in bathroom - TV did not work - and nobody in the house to welcome you. ( one had to go to a nearby pub) never again!!!!!! No sign on number 11 to indicate "Arch Guesthouse" Diti
