We got married in Killarney in August 2020 and had our reception in The Brehon. We had the most fantastic week leading up to the wedding, our family joined us in the days beforehand and they were amazed at how beautiful the hotel was, not to mention the views of the Killarney mountains. We got married in the middle of the Covid pandemic, with our original date of 4th July being moved to 28th August and despite all the restrictions and last minute Government announcements, we managed to have the best week with our nearest and dearest. It wasn't what we had originally planned, as we had to cut our numbers to 50 and as a result only had our immediate families there with us. But we were keen to go ahead with it as we weren't sure what lay ahead in terms of Covid. Caitriona and the team at The Brehon were amazing, nothing we asked was too much bother and they were extremely flexible throughout, which meant a lot under the circumstances at the time. The venue is simply stunning, the staff are second to none and the food could not be faulted. We had breakfast every morning for the week we were there and had lunch most days in the hotel, we didn't have one bad meal. Our wedding day was the most relaxed day, with Pat & Aine from the Style Suite doing our hair and make up which was so handy and so chilled out. We opted for the piano for our reception which was subtle but lovely and created a relaxed atmosphere. The service throughout the day was just brilliant and we had a great days craic, just like we had hoped for. We have been to The Brehon a number of times over the years, when we decided to get married in Killarney, there was no doubt that we would choose The Brehon for our reception. We can't wait to get back, all being well, hopefully that will be very soon.

Stayed here on a 3 night package over Christmas. The entire visit was wonderful from beginning to end. Due to Covid-19, some events that were planned unfortunately had to be cancelled but this did not take away from the enjoyment of our stay. The entire staff more than made of for it with their professionalism allied with genuine friendliness and warmth. On arrival, we received a beautiful Christmas Hamper, a lovely touch. Our accommodation was excellent, a spotlessly clean room. Pillows are too much on the “soft” side , would have preferred a firmer one. Throughout our 3 night stay our dining experience was nothing short of excellent, each evening we were treated to an excellent array of food dishes, the Christmas Day lunch surpassed any meal I can recall in any hotel I have stayed in. Service was always top notch. We went on a long walk around the Killarney Lakes, before we left the hotel we (4) were provided with a delicious packed lunch. Irish coffees awaited our return after a long day enjoying the beautiful sights that Killarney has to offer. Each morning a delicious breakfast was served, one small quibble, it’s a pity fresh orange juice wasn’t available. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay in Killarney and the Brehon. When life once again returns to some form of normality we will once again come back to Killarney and the Brehon !

Dear Garryowen, I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us over the Christmas and would like to thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We pride all of our staff on their exceptional hospitality and I am so glad to hear you felt their warm and helpful presence during your visit. I am truly sorry to hear that you found the pillow to be a bit too soft. We have many different types of pillows in the hotel and I would have been more than happy to offer you a firmer one should we have been made aware that it would have been your preference. We always aim for our guests to have a wonderful comfortable and relaxing stay with us and will accommodate you in any way that we possibly can. I have passed your compliments on the food, service and overall experience to the staff as I am sure they will be delighted to hear that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay. I have also passed over your comment regarding the orange juice to our restaurant manager for review. We are constantly reviewing all aspects of our hotel to ensure we provide the best possible experience for our guests going forward and this is why your feedback is so important to us. Thank you again for your lovely review and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Brehon again in the near future. Kind regards, Sarah. Duty Manager | The Brehon Hotel | 064-6630700

We stayed for 2 nights in the Brehon for a much needed post lockdown break. While it’s officially a 4 *, it behaves like a 5 *. Decor, food, and especially service were excellent. Really great find in a great location. We’ll definitely be back once the next lockdown is over!

Stayed at the brehon for the weekend of my birthday. The hotel is lovely on entry, the lobby is impressive. We were given two key cards the first didn’t work, which is not a big deal but when we got into the room the wine and chocolates my partner had paid extra for were not there. He was disappointed as he was hoping they would be there for us to enjoy. He rang reception, they took around 20 minutes to bring them up and when they did they brought the wrong wine. I went down to reception and waited a substantial amount of time for someone to bring the right one. When I brought it back up I realised that the glasses they had given us were covered in dishwasher residue so I had to clean them with hot water from the kettle. We had dinner that evening at Danu waitress was lovely. However, my starter of mushrooms with onion mayonnaise was cold which made it virtually inedible. My partner enjoyed his starter and the steak for my main was lovely, really nicely cooked. It stated on the tv display that there was a room service menu but we were unable to locate it and neither was reception, so they brought us up a physical copy. When we rang to order something from the menu they brought up, someone else told us that they weren’t actually serving that menu and they only had a selection of three pizzas. Which was fine but there was a strange lack of communication and and efficiency. We had spa treatments; the facilities were great and the staff friendly. However, when we went for the inclusive lunch in the brehon bar there was soap/suds in the water jug we were given, which led to an awkward encounter with a female waiter when we asked for a replacement. I have worked in restaurants before it happens easily when cleaning water jugs but she was quite odd about it. There was potential for our stay to be lovely but these small inconveniences definitely overshadowed our time here slightly!

Dear AlexisWst, Thank you for your review. I was very disappointed to hear of the shortcomings in the service you received during your stay with us. You will see from other reviews that this level of service is certainly not the norm here at The Brehon. I would like the opportunity to speak with you directly in relation to your stay and I would appreciate if you could contact me on lorraine.salmon@thebrehon.com or 064 6630700. I look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards, Lorraine Salmon Office Manager
