From the time you walk through the front door, you get this jucky feeling. The place looks and feels dirty. The woman at reception looked like she had a hangover. We have a room with a double bed and 1 single bed. Those bedding has not been washed in a while and everything smells. Cobwebs all over the place. We ended up taking the blanket that we through over the car seat to put on the bed. No way we were going to sleep on those sheets. I will not even boil water in that kitchen. We did not expect a 3star place, but this place is a dump. Doors banging right through the night.
We stayed in the smurf too and it was full of gross cobwebs, also a horrid smell, only good part about the hostel was the location. Also catfished the parking lot, there's only 4 spots, your lucky if you grab one.
I made a group booking in this hostel for 19 people. Judging on the reviews we were a little worried, however we did not plan to be there much and only stayed one night. The rooms themselves were in great need of an upgrade and were quite run down, but they were liveable. It would be great if they could provide hand soap in the rooms. My main problem was the lack of notice of a security deposit, we were asked to give a security deposit of €20 each in cash. This amounted to almost the price of the booking itself. We had no notification of this in advance of the booking and we found the staff very unhelpful and rude when we raised our concerns. Customer service was really not good. I have no problem in paying a security deposit but notice of this is very important. So remember to bring an extra €20 in cash to save yourselves hassle on check in.…

If you are looking for a bed and a shower and a central location then look no further. If you are a clown who expects the moon and stars for €30 a night then pay five or six times the price somewhere else.
This hostel is the only business with pre COVID prices and yet some expect the moon, and the staff are helpful and through in this duties, I know as I came and stayed for 3 months. Yes there is drunken men on stag parties on some wknds but in no way is there 'drunks wandering the halls' as some claim. The worst to happen in my time there is an extremely religious girl walking around with the bible, preaching to all, offering baptisms and even attempting an exorcism on my friend. The free for all trashing of business's by anonymous keyboard cowboys should not be allowed. Thank you to all staff at the Railway Hostel and definitely see you again,
This is a very basic hostel - of a kind you no longer see these days (for a good reason!). The rooms seemed neglected and were dirty, there was dirt on our matrasses and on the floor, the toilets were not clean and we hardly slept because there were drunk people wondering about until 3:30. They tried to break into our room and did not stop screaming until we started yelling back (after 3 polite attempts to remind them of the fact that it was the middle of the night). The rooms and showers are unisex, which in itself is not necessarily a bad thing, but because of the large amount of drunk men walking about and peeing all over the place, I felt unsafe and uncomfortable as a woman. Was glad to leave the next day but still feel dirty after having slept there. My recommendation: spend more money on a good hotel than little at this crappy place.…
Leave worse than you came, food was stolen, charger stolen so couldn’t even do my work, two gay couples having sex in the room on a Tuesday night, spiritually unclean, staff cannot be trusted, a mess!
It's really sad to see someones investment, someones bread & butter run into such total neglect. Whatever's going on, I'm sure it's not irredeemable. The matresses were vile. Dangerously dirty. Noise echoes in the hallways. A map on the wall with killarney rubbed off from wear & tear. Time for change. Killarney is a beautiful place. So unfair that businesses don't think of each other. Iron skillets from a local restaurant in the skip, while a local hostel kitchen struggles. A bit of community cooperative & some social responsibility wouldn't go amiss.
I called in to collect items for someone and to pay for their stay. I was met by Jerry who was the rudest person I have ever met in my entire life. A Canadian man was checking in for 3 days days before I spoke to Jerry and had been hiking for 200 miles, was so beyond rude to him. Another couple asked for help with a bag and was snapped at and told no way and he was too busy to talk. I had to find my own way to storage to collect the bags needed. I had called ahead to have things in order and unfortunately met Jerry instead who in my 5 minutes in the premises made me feel worthless and invisible. Totally unnecessary behaviour to anyone.
