Detailed Reviews
Decent hostel with typical hostel breakfast. Very well located within Killarney. We had a renovated room. Room (and attached bathroom) was modern and clean. However there was couple big wi-fi dead spots even within the room and there were no lockers located in the room. My preference is always to have a locker in the room but they had safety deposit boxes in the lobby for no charge which worked well to store valuables. All in all, I would stay again.

Mixed group of 12 Saturday 8th post long Carrauntoohill ascent. Some of these had never hostelled before and after a night camping and a day hiking needed some comfort. Location brilliant town centre but quiet. Loads of parking in Beech Road car park adjacent. Very friendly and welcoming. We are all frontline staff and found Corvid safety measures excellent. Rooms in old part of hostel are perfect comfortable beds great shower. Some of us were in new part and were astounded by the level of confort. Staff member moved his own car so our motorbiker could have the bike right outside his window-outstanding customer service. We did not cook there kitchen is large and well equipped but we decided to treat ourselves and eat out. Great spot highly recommended by all 12 of us.

Me and my partner stayed in a private room in this hostel! We were there in February, the room was well heated , clean, spacious and i have nothing to complain about. The security on the property is great and i felt secure even walking at night. We had a car and so we asked reception for tips on things to do and see. The receptionist was sooo helpful, she gave us a map and pointed out all the best places to see in our stay, which costal drives to do and in which direction to do them. Could not praise the staff enough, facilities are basic but you have everything you need. Would definitely stay here again!

To finish off a great week in Cork and Kerry a friend and I had booked a twin room for two nights in Neptunes hostel Killarney. The entrance is up a dark alleyway off the road.
When we arrived about 7pm the receptionist said they only had a double room and they could not offer any other rooms as they were booked out. My friend had to get accommodation elsewhere. The person there said I would get €50 refund back but he would have to see the manager first. This was after taking €160 from my debit card at 08.06 that morning. I stayed the night and talked to the manager who arrived the next day at 4pm. He said he wasn't going to give me any refund whatsoever even though I had booked a twin room. I even offered to leave that day and he could let the room to someone else. He said it was my fault and during the conversation he became agitated and came out from behind the reception to confront me in front of other guests which was very intimidating and a first for me in all the places I have stayed. He wasn't wearing a face mask to prevent covid-19 either. I'm booking this hostel for years and I always make sure I book the exact room I need. He shouted at me to "take it up with booking.com".
The room was a dreary concrete cube with very little light coming in despite the big window. The bed was a plank of wood on legs and the only other furniture was a solitary chair standing in the corner. There was nowhere to put your clothes except on the floor which resembled worn out coloured sacks joined together. This might have been the award winning 'Haven' building at one time but sadly not anymore. It looked tired and worn.
I had to keep the light on all the time and it was difficult to tell if it was night or day. I didn't use the kitchen so I can't comment on that.
There is no parking nearby and there was no night time security when I stayed.
The WiFi was non existent in the room. Neptunes is family run and it was a bad experience from the start especially dealing with the rudest man in Ireland. He didn't like me questioning his authority and once he had my money I wasn't getting it back. Our room was abviously given to someone else earlier that day. When I left I didn't look back and I won't be returning ever again.
I would not recommend this place under any circumstances. There is plenty of accommodation close to the centre of town which are more friendly and cheerful.

Highly unsatisfactory stay here at Neptune hostel recently. One bad experience at this hostel seemed to follow with another. We were met at reception by an extremely unpleasant woman by the name of Juliette who spoke to us in a highly rude and condescending manner from the moment we stepped in the door. We were unaware of a €20 deposit that had to be paid by each guest, which we were never informed of prior to our stay, when we questioned this we were told if we didn’t want to pay it then we should stay elsewhere. One of our group members was asked if she was in a “bad mood” or “having a bad day” when she simply just questioned this said deposit. When we went to pay this deposit, we paid in cash as none of us carry a credit card, which seemed to really irritate Juliette as she was getting quite frustrated when attempting to operate the card machine. We were also failed to have been told we were required to present a form of identification to be scanned and photocopied, again very misleading. Throughout our check-in, we were continuously spoken to in an unwelcoming manner and felt as if we were nothing but a hassle to Juliette. We were given a list of rules to abide by, which of course is totally fair. However, what wasn’t right was that many of these rules were in relation to covid, even though this was quite contradictory as no staff member was wearing a mask the entire duration of our stay. One of our group members returned to the residence late at night and discovered her key card to the room was not working, this was mentioned the following morning at reception and we were simply just told we should have said it earlier, even though this incident happened in the middle of the night and there was nobody in reception. At approximately 4am, the night Porter, who’s identification was unknown at the time, attempted to enter our room. The reason was unknown and as you can imagine this was quite alarming, being a group of females. When we refused to open the door during this terrifying experience, we were threatened with the guards. Overall, our experience at this hostel was extremely undesirable, we certainly would not return ourselves, let alone recommend a visit here to anyone.

Absolutely lovely hostle, very clean, nice family room in haven building. Great location. We parked the car behind o connors traditional pub for 5 euro per day which was just around the corner from the hostle. I would have no problem booking this hostle again. So clean and nice, not what I expected from a hostle.

stayed with 2 friends in a private room with our own bathroom. staff at check in was friendly. the room was very clean and the beds were comfortable (a double and bunk beds). the shower was excellent, big rainfall head and plenty of hot water. I have to say it is better than some hotel rooms that I have stayed in and paid a lot more money for. location couldn't be any better, right in the heart of town. €165 for 2 nights between 3 people, can't go too wrong with that. i would recommend

My friend and I shared a double room in this hostel. We were greeted by friendly staff.
Our room was okay - what you would expect for the cheap price. However, it was incredibly damp upon arrival, and became more damp throughout the night. Additionally, the showers were painfully hot at the lowest setting. Overall, a good experience but slightly spoiled by the level of damp.

I wasn't sure what to expect but this accommodation definitely exceeded my expectations. Centre of town, spotlessly clean, nice shower, easy check in and out, all covid guidelines adhered to and best of all excellent value for money. We will definitely stay here again.

Stayed here for 2 nights with friends while visiting Killarney. The hostel is in a perfect location for exploring Killarney. COVID 19 precautions were strictly imposed. The room was small but was fine for us. Towels were provided. Staff were lovely and welcoming. The hostel is well secured as there is security on the door at night time. There is a lovely outdoor seating area perfect for sitting out in the sunshine. Would highly recommend staying here!

There are separate bathrooms for males and females. The showers are in the same room as the bathrooms, but all have doors (privacy), and they provide towels.
We were there in September '18. There is free parking at a church about 10 minute walk away.
"Had no issues. It was quiet, private. No extras, no wifi in the room, but it was fine otherwise (private, quiet, secure)."Read full review
