Visited as four friends in May and delighted by the welcome and attentive service from the new owner Alice, ably accompanied by Margaret. Lovely and spacious bedrooms and bathrooms and legendary breakfast and delightful gardens. A perfect location for exploring Kilarney. Highly recommended.
We visited Kathleen's in summer 2021, a few months after COVID restrictions began to loosen and people began to travel. It was a comfortable and convenient place to stay in Killarney and a good launching place for a Ring of Kerry tour. Kathleen is abiding by all COVID rules and the place seems safe. We stayed in a twin room. For a twin, it seemed spacious and not crowded. The two twin beds were NOT pushed together, as you often find in European hotels, and there was adequate space between them. The room seemed a bit basic and plain, but Kathleen explained that due to COVID, they had to remove decorative items such as cushions and throws. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was large and lovely, with plenty of hot water. The toilet did sometimes "run" after flushing and you had to jiggle the button to make it stop. The other guests were quiet, we heard no noise from them. This hotel/guest house had a large sitting room at the entrance and a beautiful library-type room on the second floor. The dining room was lovely. There was adequate free parking in front of the hotel, with beautiful flowers. The place is about 2 minutes drive north of Killarney, so don't let the fact that it's not right in town discourage you. Kathleen herself was VERY helpful, chatty, and obviously enjoys giving advice on travel in the area and which restaurants are the best. She asked where we were eating and made a reservation for us when she heard we didn't have one. She also has strong opinions on the best tours to take, so if you are uncertain about your arrangements, she would be happy to advise you in advance -- call and ask her. She also provided a very helpful Ring of Kerry map. The negatives about this hotel: The room seemed too warm, with no way to adjust the temperature. But when we opened the windows there was a lot of road noise from the highway outside, so we couldn't sleep with the windows open. The nice comforters on the bed were also too warm for the summer, so we removed them and slept without. It would be helpful if the rooms were equipped with a light blanket in the closet. If you are someone who likes to use wash cloths, bring your own, as this hotel does not provide them (which is typical in Ireland). The breakfast was fine but the portions were very small. Not being fond of the heavy eggs-potato-sausage type of breakfast, we asked for porridge, and the bowls arrived with just a very small amount in each bowl. Very inadequate for adults who have ordered nothing else. Likewise, the coffee cups were very small so we had to ask for numerous refills. Thankfully, each table had a plate of toast and breads, so we filled up on those. Most other guests were eating the traditional heavy breakfast and seemed happy with their meals. I would stay here again, bringing a light blanket in case I get too warm.…
Kathleen's is wonderful. The staff is so kind and just saying her name in town will get you to the top of the reservation list. She is loved by locals and her B&B is great. Highly recommend doing the Ring of Kerry tour (Kathleen will connect you).
Kathleen is a gem! The place is perfect! She gives the best advice for the trip around the ring of Kerry Nd places to stop and places to eat. All detailed on maps. She is the perfect hostess. Breakfast is wonderful. Highly recommend for a taste of Ireland and its friendliness!
Kathleen is the consummate host - nothing was too much trouble and so helpful with info on places to go and to eat - fab stay , worth every penny . We wish we could have stayed longer but we may be back!!
This B&B came recommend to use from some very good friends and we were not disappointed. The rooms were clean and comfortable. WiFi was very good. Breakfast was awesome. Kathleen is a wealth of information. Highly recommend.
A wonderful host in Kathleen who was most obliging. Really friendly staff. Lovely breakfast and a lovely room. Not too far from the town centre and a good selection of restaurants and bars. Highly recommend.
This is truly one of the best bed and breakfast establishments I've been to. Kathleen is a wonderful host and the rooms and grounds are spotless clean and beautiful. The breakfast is made to order in a bright stylish room with a fresh flower on every table. There are charming little sitting areas all over and outside in her gardens. Do yourself a favor and call her directly to book your stay. Chat with her at check in and she'll help you make the best use of your time in the area. Kathleen and staff...Big thanks from all of us; Jeremy, chris, Collen and Richard.
Clean, comfortable, with a delicious and filling breakfast. Kathleen was very friendly and recommended the many places to visit around the Kerry and Dingle Peninsulas. We visited while Europe was roasting in a heat wave, and we were so happy to miss it. Ireland was just right!
Warm and welcoming. We were going to be late arriving, but Kathleen made sure we had a good welcome. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was very good. Kathleen’s knowledge of the area was good and gave us several sightseeing tips. As well as getting a table booked at a good restaurant in Killarney for dinner Very good overall.
