We stayed here late August/early September and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this family owned and run location in the middle of Killarney. We lucked out and got the top corner room (Room 304) with extra "bay window" area. Even though this is a historic older building there is an elevator. The windows open, and although there is no air conditioning, they did provide a box fan for use if needed. The room was spacious, but because several of the walls (since it is just below angled roof) are angled the only real clothing storage was a large armoire with 6 hangers. The two nightstands had a little bit of storage space. Loved sitting in the window alcove watching the street below. King bed was very comfortable. Bathroom had tub/shower combo that had good water pressure and drained well, but there was only 1 towel bar and then hooks on back of door. There was an iron and ironing board in the room but no safe. We got the bed and breakfast rate and the breakfast each morning had options of hot items (eggs, pancakes, etc. to order from menu) or cereals, fruit, breads and an assortment of juices and hot drinks. Kelly, the granddaughter of the original owners, was around the breakfast room and check-in desk most all day (and even saw her working in the dining room one evening. She was very nice and helped us locate parking, a laundry facility, called us a cab, and gave us directions as needed. I'm sure her grandparents are proud of her involvement in the hotel. It was just 3 blocks or so to High Street, about the same to the train and bus station, and centrally located for many restaurants. We would certainly stay here again if ever in Killarney.

I cannot express enough just how amazing the McSweeney family and each and every one of their staff are. We have been going to Killarney for a decade for the racing festivals and I can honestly say we feel like part of the family. I personally am well and truly spoilt when staying , nothing is too much trouble, the rooms are of an excellent standard and the same people return year after year proving just how popular this hotel is. The atmosphere is always of a friendly & good spirited nature and I for one, never look to stay anywhere else, I highly recommend!

McSweeney's was a great stay for us in Killarney. The breakfast was one of the best of the trip and the bar on the first floor was very convenient and friendly. The location is excellent for walking around town, and the staff was professional and attentive. The only drawback was the open windows at night did allow the noise from late night partiers to interrupt our sleep. Not much the hotel can do about that, and probably not a problem many months of the year.

I went in looking to have a quiet drink with my friend as every other bar in Killarney town was busy being a bank holiday. It seemed nice at first as it was very quiet maybe 4-6 people in the bar. We asked the bar tender once he was done serving the couple beside us if he had a drinks menu as we seen the lady outside drinking some type of spitz cocktail drink…he replied “no we don’t” in a rude tone and walked off from us. He came round again and was doing something behind the bar and I asked him could I order a drink when he was ready. He replied “have you ID” I said yes and handed him my driving license that I had in the back of my phone case. He had asked me to take it out so instead I just gave him my age card as I had it handy in my bag so I put my phone down on the bar counter. He walked off with my age card and came back and asked me “if I had a problem” I replied “No” I was a bit confused as to why he asked me this. He then said “if there a f**ing problem I asked you for ID” he then gave my ID to me and told us to get out of the bar that he wasn’t going to serve any of us as we where being cheeky. At this point I was completely lost as to how he thought I was being cheeky. As someone who is local to Killarney and is a bartender myself in a bar in Killarney I am stunned to how this man treated my friend and I. He did not like the look of us from the second. I could understand if he was busy behind the bar and under pressure but he wasnt. This was behind 3pm and 3:35pm on Sunday the 02/06/2024. A middle aged male bartender. I would not recommend to come to this bar if you are under the age of 25 for a drink. I will most definitely not be returning after being treated this way.

McSweeney Arms was the perfect hotel for our small golfing group, It is located near great shopping, restaurants and nightlife. The hotel itself served great food starting with a really good selection of breakfast foods including delicious Irish favorites. The Bar/Restaurant has equally good dinner meals and a nice, cozy atmosphere. We stayed in the Standard Rooms and found them to be much more than standard, they are spacious and well appointed!

Hats off to all of the hotel staff, starting with Kelley McSweeney, all of the McSweeney Staff,. those manning the frotn desk, serving the food and tending the tavern, were, to a person, friendly, knowledgeable and personable.

We had a group of 4, our main mission was golfing on the beautiful Southern Ireland Courses by the sea. But, we also fit in some additional sightseeing, as well as enjoying the wonderful nightlife of Killarney. Tony McSweeney and the Tavern Bar Tenders were very helpful in steering us in the right direction, including which roads were best to travel to our daily destinations. We all had the time of our life and we will surely stay at McSweeney's when we return to Ireland again!

Exceptional , family run hotel in the heart of Killarney. The “Tower” room was just gorgeous for an overnight-massive king size bed which was so comfy.
The breakfast was yummy. Lots of choice from the full Irish to kippers to omelette. Plenty of fresh fruit and yogurt too.
Kelly Anne as front of house was very interested in her guests, chatty but not intrusive. Overall, a great spot to stay.

We had a nice stay in September during an unusually warm week. Our rooms on the third floor were older and on the smaller size (compared to U.S. lodging) but clean and comfortable. Our two rooms were quite warm even when the temperature outside dropped. The single small window faced a small service area so airflow was minimal despite the oscillating fans in the room (no AC in this hotel). I got the impression that all the rooms were unique and this might be an issue only in this small wing of the hotel but for us it was an issue. Staff was more than friendly and location was great. We would stay again (hopefully in a cooler room)!

This was our first visit to Killarney and wont be our last could not of asked for a more central hotel. The room was very big and comfortable with a great power shower and also very clean with complimentary bottled water every day. The breakfast choice was very good and of great quality including all of the fresh fruit available. A special mention must go to Kelly the owners daughter who was very helpful for our 5 day stay she is a credit to the hotel and also her father who gave us some great places to go off the beaten track . Thanks McSweeney arms for a great 5 day stay in Killarney. Staff, room and food excellent - particularly the 'Wild Atlantic' breakfast. I accidentally left my house keys in the bedroom when I checked out and they'd rung to see if they were mine even before they were missing and then posted them straight on to me.

What a great Hotel to stay in Killarney. The Hotel is directly in the City with a parking space just opposite the Hotel (public parking). The room we got was just amazing as we had to 3rd Floor Tower Room that you can see on the Picture. The Breakfast was amazing and the Hotel offers a selection of 8 different breakfast menu's that you can choose in addition to a small breakfast buffet with Fruits and Cereals. There is also a Pub just next to the Hotel that also belongs to the Hotel and offers also a great dinner. So all in all the Hotel was definitly our most favorite Hotel in Ireland. And the very special thanks goes to the daughter Kelly Ann. She was just amazing friendly and helpful and has given us tips what to see on our Ring of Kerry Tour. I definitly would recommend this hotel.
