The Gleneagle Hotel & Apartments garners appreciation for its spotlessly clean rooms and a vibrant atmosphere enriched with live music and entertainment. Despite its central location offering convenience and ample parking, some guests feel it's a tad distant from the town center. The hotel's amenities, including the pool and shuttle service, are a hit, although there are occasional remarks about them being outdated.
While the staff often receive accolades for their professionalism, service quality seems to fluctuate, especially during peak times. Moreover, feelings are mixed about room quality, with comfort clashing with noise complaints and the need for modernization. Concerns about value for money also surface, with guests pointing out that the hotel might not fully justify its pricing.

We recently stayed here the end of July in the Glen-eagle on our stay cation for two nights. We used this hotel as a base when travelling around Kerry and Dingle. This hotel was an unexpected surprise, the hotel staff were friendly, food was great in a relaxed atmosphere and the hotel room was spacious, clean and bright. An added bonus was the squash courts that we managed to get three games in over our stay with a dip in the pool after. We were a little anxious with travelling as we did not know what to expect with covid but we felt very safe and secure whilst staying in the Glen-eagle. There were hand sanitisers in room with sanitising wipes also, a seal on the room prior to arrival and the remote control for the TV in a sealed bag. The only downside was having to ring to reception for more toiletries during our stay as there is no housekeeping during your stay with covid but I imagine that is the case everywhere. This hotel is in a very central location in Killarney and we used it as a base for travelling around Killarney, Kerry and Dingle. We travelled as a couple and would stay here again when visiting Killarney.

We had a lovely comfortable stay in the hotel. The measures such as booking meals and activities and reduced housekeeping, put in place to adhere to regulations don't affect or hinder the experience and made The stay more enjoyable as social distancing was already in place.
The staff are very helpful, we had clashing times for pool and breakfast on our last morning and they did their best to accommodate us. The food was good and the children lobed the pool and nightly entertainment. Overall a lovely break away.
My only issue is the amount of single use plastics due to some measures. No water glasses or coffee cups in room and room service is served pre-packed. I feel dished could be used and washed from the room the same as they are from the returaunt. Also the plastic bags on the remotes are unnessecary, as the remote need a to be sanatized after our stay anyway.

+1
Just back from a two day stay at the Gleneagle Hotel Killarney. We were concerned what to expect before we went in regard to the current Covid 19 reopening of hotel stays and outdoor dining. We need not have been concern as the hotel and all it's team had everything in hand to make sure guests and staff stayed safe. All the staff were so friendly could not do enough for you. The rooms were beautiful and clean and had everything you needed comfortable beds, walk in shower, hairdryer, tea coffee making facilities, tv, room service. There is a 5 euro charge per person for room service, but it's worth every penny. We had booked a room with a balcony an extra 10 euro per night. The food in the rooms was excellent and in the two dining restaurants. There are vending machines but run out of stock very quickly and there is an shop and ATM on site. All guests had to wear masks when walking about the hotel but once you sat down to eat or drink you could remove them. Staff had masks on at all time. We dined in the backstage bar which have large screen tv's and the staff WOW could not do enough for you. The pool was open and leisure centre. Last orders in bars including residents lounge was 10.30pm closed at 11.00pm and you had 30 minutes to finish up so everyone was back at their rooms at 11.30pm. Table service only you first find a table which are numbered then you go pay and the very, very, friendly staff would bring your drink to your table. The rest rooms at the hotel were spotless due to the lady that kept them clean especially the lobby restrooms. Just a personal observation. I think a lady cleaning men's toilets is a bit embarrising for the staff member and maybe I am old fashioned but I think it would be better to have a man do men's and a women to do women's. There were a lot of families which was nice to see the kids [been there done that] enjoying themselves and guests were a mixture of all ages. This hotel was top-notch well done to everyone at the Gleneagle and thank you for a wonderful short break.

Dear Guests, Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely comment on your break away. We are absolutely astonished with your kind words towards the staff, all hotel facilities and cleanliness around the hotel especially during those tough times that we are all experiencing at the moment. It is genuinely lovely and encouraging to read a feedback like yours letting the whole team here know that we are doing it good, where we always try to have guests and staff health and safety first. We are hoping to welcome you both back soon for another treat break, Kindest Regards, Guest Relations Department

Let's start with the positives. We stayed in the apartments which are located at the back of the Brehon Hotel. We'll equipped, huge, clean and comfortable. Its a decent walk to the main hotel if you're with an elderly person otherwise it's close enough. In the hotel itself there is hand sanitiser stations dotted all around the hotel. There was people cleaning public areas constantly so you'd feel safe enough with regard to Covid.
The negatives were surrounding mealtimes. The food is really good. However there is only one menu for everything. So we asked for the early bird menu and ate at 6 but got the normal menu. A few days later we sat down to lunch at the less formal bar in the hotel and got the exact same menu. We left as its very pricey and when we queried this with the receptionist she made a call and sent us back over to the bar where another menu was produced. So I'm not sure if it was an attempt to upsell or a genuine mistake on the waiters part but there is two menus. Ask for the lunch menu. Also, make sure they give you the same wine with your meal if paying by glass. I got 2 different types of wine as did my mam. The second glass considerably more expensive than the first. Again, might be an error. Might not be.
The hotel itself is within a 20 to 30 min walk from the town centre. You can order a taxi from the free phones in reception. The shuttle buses aren't working due to Covid, something we found out when we landed at the train station. Perhaps an update to the website might help guests in this respect.
Overall a most pleasant stay. Everybody was very friendly working in the most trying of times, all of the staff wearing masks. Would Highly recommend. Torc Waterfall is a must.

We stayed here for one night. We are returning guests and always have loved the Glen Eagle. Staff are most helpful and friendly. We never really had any complaints untill now... We where told prior, that check in was at 4pm, but our room wasn't ready till almost 5 and then check out time is 11.30 am. I'm very disappointed, any paying customer would expect to get what they paid for which we did not this time.
As for the covid guidelines, working in a hotel myself I can assure that this hotel fallowed them all, including the entertainment at night. All the tables where spaced out appropriately, there where no more than max 6 people at any one table at any time. There where strictly no dancing and music wasn't loud so we where easily able to talk to each other without shauting...The staff is really doing amazing job in these unusual times.

This hotel is on top of their game utilising their space to create a somewhat normal atmosphere!! Apartments are very spacious, clean and quiet and probably the best equipped self catering we ever stayed in. It's the little touches like the welcome milk muffins tea, coffee etc Everything is provided right down to wash up liquid,dishwasher/washing machine tabs, tea towels, cloths.
Yes everything has to be booked but this is the norm of the times we are living in and we received at least 2 emails/ phonecalls advising to pre book 24hours in advance. We ate in the bar first night and it was very nice. Yes pool time is somewhat shortened but we were lucky to get booked in each morning and they only allow max of 40 in pool at time which means plenty of comfort to swim and no big waits on inflatables considering the extensive size of their pool. Bring robes to speed up movement in/ out of pool and shower/ change in comfort back in apartment but small crtain covered poolside cubicles allow u to house towels etc.
Kids loved the nightly entertainment and movie however not so happy on the weekend when no movie and just music playing on screen and tables/ chairs put out to cover ballroom??
Gift/ ice cream/ sweet shop next to ballroom.
Any staff we had contact with were all friendly and all trying their very best.
Outside is a food bus......most delicious food ....we are here multiple times with adjoining marquee tent with plenty of tables & large screen showing all sports and a small beer van also. This is not just for residents and seems very popular also with locals. This week they erected another large tent with large screen and beer shack with ample yet controlled seating/ admission.
You can rent bikes from next door bike rental and enjoy the beauty of the park across the road.
A great stay overall and kids & parents hated
Leaving. Happy kids = happy parents! The gleneagle well able to ensure this!!

Pros
Easy going and helpful staff with young children
Location & parking
Bar food was good
COVID procedures including security check-in
Swimming pool and leisure facilities all set up for young kids
Cons
Room like a sweat box , window only opens on a tilt and no air could circulate into the room. Could not stay in room for
long during the day due to lack of fresh air despite temperatures being only in mid to high teens and overcast with rain.
Air conditioning needs to be installed ASAP
And therefore based on that I would say the rate for room was overpriced even in high staycation season

very impressed with the Gleneagle Hotel
stayed as part of a coach tour, we had no faults at all, our room was in the new build, very spacious light and bright, wet room bathroom for disabled..
food excellent, dinning room staff welcoming and very efficient, considering the large amount of people to be fed, they have a very good rota system. food was imaginative
well cooked and served hot, breakfasts wonderful, don't know how they do their fried egg s but perfect every time, plenty of breads, seeds for porridge which was well made. fruit and continental breakfasts. good bands in the large ballroom every night
lots of dancing, singing sessions in the green room after, so didn't have early nights.
shuttle bus into Killarney several times a day €2, only a 20 minuet walk if you want a walk. rooms clean lovely towels.
large pool and fitness centre also treatments and a hairdresser. i did the water aerobics monday and wednesday, found it really motivating. i was amazed to see a baby class, parents and babies enjoying 30 mins of fun.
very handy having a shop in the hotel as well for papers, and lovely gifts reasonably priced. so if you are looking for a great hotel in Killarney go no further

Staff were very helpful and friendly. Fully compliant with Covid-19 guidelines and cleaned down everything after each meal. Including chairs, table, salt cellars etc. Adequate room in Ballroom for Social distancing. Each child had a sponge mat to stand on while participating in dancing and games with small spot prizes. After each show the staff would spray sanitizer on each mat. Felt a sense of normality. Would highly recommend this hotel. One Manager who’s name was Cormac made us feel like we were at home away from home. Scenery as you walk out of the hotel is breathtaking. Like something you would find on a post card. Highly recommend this hotel

Houghton-le-Spring, United Kingdom10 contributions10 helpful voteswe are booked on coach tour for 7days commencing 1/6/2025. have a grandaughter who is a very fussy eater. What type of meals are on offer at The Gleneagle
On a coach tour there is a set menu for evening dinner. There are 4 choices for starter main & dessert. This changes daily. There is also a coffee dock. Bar food is available from 1230. Breakfast has everything one would require, cereals cold / hot buffet. The food quality & quantity is excellent.
