The Arbutus is one of Killarney's true original hotels. Located in the town centre it is a historic, family run hotel -The Arbutus is best described as a Country House Manor in the heart of Killarney . Whilst small, it has the luxurious accommodation and service expected from a larger hotel, with the advantage of all the personal attention and discretion that a smaller property can offer. Location, service, knowledge and comfort. It is often described by guests as a home away from home. We look forward to the opportunity of making you feel at home

We just returned from a 6 night stay here. To say that it is a gem of a hotel is an understatement. We were checked in very efficiently by Ina who advised us about parking options and went and got a weekly ticket for us after duty. That was so so nice. We were treated to complimentary tea and ginger cake then, which incidentally was available all day every day. Such a nice treat after touring all day. This tea was served in proper silver pots with all the trimmings. The room was lovely, clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic too - great buffet of juices, cereals, Yoghurt and fresh fruit, menu for hot food was vast and very well served. Betty served us most mornings and while being very professional showed a keen interest in our holiday. An absolute lady. Strict adherence to covid regulations were very evident everywhere. Damask tablecloths were always used at breakfast and changed after each use which involved a lot of work. Bar food was lovely also. Reception staff were always very friendly and helpful. It is very evident everywhere that this is a well run family hotel who genuinely care about their customers. Location is great, on the main street close to all amenities. The best car parking is up the hill on Lewis Road, €8 per week. We will definitely return here again and highly highly recommend it.

Andrea, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a beautiful review of your stay with us at the Arbutus hotel. It's so lovely to read of how you enjoyed your time with us and, in particular how you felt so cared for throughout your stay. I couldn't agree with you more in how you describe the Arbutus hotel as being "a well run family hotel who genuinely care about their customers". We really do! We look forward to hopefully welcoming you back to both Killarney and the Arbutus sometime in the future. Slán, Seán.

From booking, to arriving, to checking out, this is a fantastic hotel to stay in Killarney. When we booked through Booking.com, the hotel rang to offer two rooms next to each other to suit our family of 5. When we arrived, there were hand sanitisers and a screen up at the reception. All staff wore face shields. Our rooms were fabulous with lots of space . Our room had a huge super king bed with a big bathroom, sofa , armchair and tv. The kids had two double beds and a single bed with a separate seating area. Obviously the tea/coffee facilities have been removed from all the rooms so when we returned each afternoon after a long day , I asked for tea and they kindly brought up tea and coffee with lovely ginger cake for everyone.

The breakfast situation has changed with no more buffet. But we had a menu and it was brought out to us but we could help ourselves to cereals and fruit . The owner Sean was helpful giving us a map and pointing out routes to take around the ring of Kerry . All the staff are amazing and so friendly and never stopped cleaning and sanitising. They even opened the residents bar just for us and we were then joined by a couple who just sat and chatted with us, only in Ireland.

The hotel is in a great location. There is a car park about a 2 min walk away that is €3 a day. It’s also a 5 min walk from the train station. There are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby.
It was lovely having a staycation this year .
We loved Killarney, it’s a lovely town with wonderful restaurants and friendly people.
This hotel has history and character and absolutely loved it.

Sandra, Thank you so so much for your glowing review! I really cannot express to you how much your words mean to us all at the Arbutus, possibly now more than ever. In reopening the hotel this month, we felt apprehension, that I'm sure every business felt as we tried to answer the question of "how do we continue doing what we've been doing for so long and not lose ourselves while also putting extra measures in place to ensure everyone's health and safety?" To read that you and your family felt so at ease within the hotel and ur "history and character" was lost along the way is such a reassurance. It's great to know that that question which we have been posing for so many months was answered for you! We look forward to hopefully welcoming you and your family back to Killarney and the Arbutus again sometime soon. Mise le meas, Seán

I had the pleasure of staying at the Arbutus last weekend, it was a pleasure from beginning to end. The location couldn't have been better, 4mins from train station - stepped off the train and straight to my break. Staff couldn't have been more helpful, from the ladies who cleared the rooms to the bar staff and reception - it's was a true Irish welcome.
There was a music session on Friday and Saturday in the bar which created a great buzz but then when I went up to bed I didn't hear a sound of it even though I was at the front of the hotel and would have been near it.
The style was traditional without with beautiful antique furniture but unlike other hotels in this genre I have stayed, everything was immaculate! Clearly extremely well maintained.
A silly little thing - but the automatic doors both opening toward me each time I entered the hotel made me feel welcome every time I walked in!
Looking forward to my next visit to Arbutus, a gem.

This family run hotel was extremely hospitable. We came in late and they made a reservation for us at a local restaurant while we got checked into our room. The rooms were quaint and the beds had local handmade wool blankets that offered great warmth. The location is right in the middle of town with easy access to shops, bars, and restaurants. Breakfast was very good and the omelettes were huge! The pub attached was very lively.

Just back from a fabulous weekend break. Really can’t fault this family run hotel. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. From the girls on reception, the staff in the dining room and to Denis and Tim in the bar.

The breakfasts were freshly cooked to order and delicious. The he bar has a limited food menu but it was lovely.

The bedroom was spotless with a fabulous 6ft bed that was super comfy. The bed was made daily with fresh towels and toiletries.

This hotel has Covid social distancing in place with plenty of hand sanitisers in place around the hotel. They have managed to balance the the safety of guests without infringing on guests enjoyment. I very much look forward to a return trip 🥰.

Received such a warm welcome to this hotel in the centre of Killarney, it feels old worldly and homely, with amazing antique fixtures and fittings, yet immaculately clean. I really felt the genuineness of Céad Míle Fáilte from all the staff at the Arbutus. From front of house, to housekeeping, to restaurant, to bar, everyone was so pleasant and accommodating and professional. It is the ideal location in Killarney, the staff and owner were full of local knowledge and information about some incredible walks and scenery within walking and driving distance. I will be back. Well done to all at the Arbutus for making our stay so enjoyable.

Booked through Booking.com and got an excellent rate for myself and my 2 teenagers for 2 nights. Very central location. Each member of staff I met was lovely and they made us feel extremely welcome. Plenty of hand sanitizer available throughout the hotel. The room I had was spacious and spotless. Breakfast was very good both mornings. There’s a Car park about a 3 minute walk away which has a very cheap daily rate. Lots of lovely restaurants nearby. I would definitely recommend this hotel and should I return to Killarney I will be back-if only for the delicious mini scones with breakfast.

We loved this place and everyone was friendly and helpful on our recent visit there. It was full of old world charm and the location couldn’t be better. The room was top class and the breakfast was to die for ! There is a great breakfast menu and Betty the lovely lady who served us our breakfast with care and warmth also brought us delicious freshly baked scones straight from the oven. Can’t wait to return!

Me and a friend stayed for night and had a couple of rooms in December.

This is a lovely hotel with a homely feel. The staff are helpful and the breakfast saw off a hangover.

The hotel is right in the centre of town so close to all the bars and restaurants, but the rooms were quiet despite the rally cars speeding round the town all night.

Our favorite hotel on our 4-city visit in Ireland was the Arbutus. It is a lush and cozy hotel with a wonderful 1940's feel with thee most comfortable beds and pillows ever. It made it hard to get up in the morning! We had spacious room with 3 beds and a small sitting room, and the bathroom had a shower AND tub! The shower door struggled to stay closed but otherwise everything a this hotel was wonderful with a car park located just behind it with ample parking available. Located in downtown Killarney we were able to walk or use the hop on/off red bus to see everything during our brie 3 day visit. Their breakfast offering was delicious and the staff was always helpful and friendly but be advised, they do lock the front door in the late evening so you may have to ring for the staff to come open it.

I kinda don't notice noise as long as it's not industrial, I didn't really notice much noise at all being honest I was on holiday had my TV on and had a few drinks, also I had my window open and I do like Street noise so I would not be the best person to ask, it is a central hotel in a busy pub area and has its own bar with music so I suppose you can judge from that.

Other option is taxi or bus into the train/bus station in Limerick City . About 20min journey. From there you can inquire about trains/buses.
