Nestled in a rejuvenating location, Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa garners admiration for its spacious and luxurious rooms with stunning views, despite the occasional maintenance hiccup. While some guests consider dining and extras costly, the hotel's tranquil atmosphere and pristine cleanliness are widely celebrated. Service quality varies, with some instances of slow responses, yet many guests experience outstanding attention. The spa and pool are sanctuaries of relaxation, though be mindful of booking protocols and amenity availability.

Wonderful time spent in Aghadoe over Christmas. Staff are exceptional, we booked for Tapas but it was quiet and lighting was too bright so atmosphere was slightly lacking & we moved to the Heights lounge where we had a delicious meal with superb service and kindness from the staff. The barman from the tapas bar even came up to ensure we were happy with our new dining location. Breakfast was also outstanding, some amazing treats on the cold buffet and the hot food was perfection again served by professional and friendly staff. Bedroom was luxurious with the most spectacular view over the lakes, a view that changes every minute with new cloud formations. The only thing I didn’t like was there was no turndown service, we did get a knock about 6.30pm offering fresh towels but I prefer a full turndown done while we were at dinner. Apart from this, faultless and we will return.

From our warm welcome at reception to our fond farewells on departing , our stay at The Aghadoe Heights Hotel was truly memorable and everything a 5 star stay should. Peace and calm permeate the luxurious but not ostentatiously appointed hotel. Our room was bright and sunny , with expansive and in fact “The best views” of the fabled lakes of Killarney in Killarney. We felt like we had been transported to an idyllic haven. We slipped in to our bathrobes that couldn’t have been any plusher, and headed down to the spa; Alas we had lingered a little too long in our gorgeous room to avail of the Spa so we lounged in the fabulous azure blue pool and jazcuzzi. Dinner in The Lake Room , was a Michelin star worthy experience , dinner was sublime, the presentation of each delicious dish mezmerizing , the desserts were each a work of art. The attentive , friendly but not invasive service was second to none. A short after dinner walk to the viewing area across the road, as the sunset was breathtaking and just enough cool evening fresh air to refresh us. The inviting lounge hummed with jovial civilized banter on our return, but we were exhausted after a long day , and our ultra comfy king size bed was calling to us. A flick of a switch had the drapes on the floor to ceiling windows swish softly closed. I love the abundant Voya products in the gorgeously white marble bathroom , the rain shower was so sumptious , I could have stayed for hours. Breakfast back in The Lake Room was sumptious , all of the baked goods freshly baked in house by their Pastry Chef, a unique Danish pastry bar , where Irish butter puff pastry rectangle’s sat beside a mind boggling array of toppings, ..do it yourself danish pastries, various pots of rich Custards , homemade fruit toppings , nuts and seeds , providing an endless variety of Delectable combinations , sitting along side warm mini scones, muffins, and whole-wheat and sour dough breads. The juice bar alone with it’s variety of health drinks combining freshly squeezed juices was worth several visits. Then their was the breakfast menu with a vast choice of delicious made to order hot dishes. The staff couldn’t have been more hospitable, they were warm and authentic, and we truly felt so welcome and at home in their beautiful hotel. We highly recommend The Aghadoe Heights Hotel fro a truly unforgettable stay.

We stayed at Adhadoe Heights for two nights in late December and it was an flawless experience overall.

The room was spacious, spotless, and well-equipped with everything we needed, including a coffee machine, a well-stocked minibar, biscuits, and fruit. It was comfortable and made for a relaxing stay.

We ate in both the Lake Room and Lounge restaurants and found both the food and service to be excellent. The breakfast experience was superb, with an outstanding cooked menu and an impressive buffet selection to suit all tastes.

We used the thermal suite, which was a real highlight. The steam room was the best I’ve ever come across - highly recommended if you stay here.

The Liberation whiskey signature cocktail was a special treat, expertly prepared and served by Ayon and Martin. The attention to detail and presentation made it even more enjoyable.

The staff were without exception, superb. Friendly, accommodating and eager to help. Special thanks to Maura, Ayon, and Martin at the bar, who really stood out for their great service.

We had a great time and would happily stay here again.

Dear 2RogerS2, Thank you for sharing your impressions about your recent stay with us. We are honoured to read that your stay was flawless. It will be a joy to share your kind words with the entire team, especially Ayon, Martin, and Maura, as they are ambassadors for our service ethos and will be very appreciative of this recognition. We’re thrilled to hear that our facilities helped enhance your relaxation, particularly the steam room in the thermal suite. The breathtaking views of Lough Leane and our tranquil location truly add to the experience, and we’re so pleased they contributed to your enjoyment. Thank you also for mentioning the Liberator cocktail—it’s our guest's favorite, and we’re glad you enjoyed it. This craftily curated drink highlights locally sourced whiskey, showcasing the character of our neighboring distilleries while blending seamlessly with its other ingredients for a rich and memorable flavor. Thank you again for your wonderful feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back for another amazing stay! Warm regards, Lais Silva Assistant Hotel Manager

Had a really lovely stay at the Aghadoe Heights recently. The room was luxurious, spacious, the view of the lake and mountains, spectacular. The choice of soft furnishings made it so comfortable.
The overall feel of the hotel is very comfortable. There are interesting original design features throughout the hotel, the integrity of which have been kept and really add to the relaxed atmosphere. The fire and seating at reception, and other touches, encourage you to sit and soak up the calm atmosphere.
The staff were friendly and generous with their time. Breakfast was great, and lunch the bar, delicious. Dining was special, with the dining room beautifully calm, even the music was right. The thermal suite is very smart and the staff, lovely.
I definitely plan to visit again, and have recommended to many as a place for a truly relaxed and memorable break.

We have just returned from a three-night stay at Aghadoe Heights Hotel and Spa just a ten-minute drive from Killarney town. It has majestic views of the Kerry Mountains with the lakes of Killarney nestled below. This was my first stay at this hotel, and I was with my parents celebrating my father’s special birthday.

On entering the beautiful hotel reception, we were greeted by a very friendly team and Maria was so helpful in making us feel so welcome and our room was ready straight away. When we opened our bedroom door, there was only one word uttered and it was wow! We stayed in a Lakeside family room with a large private balcony. It was spacious and luxuriously decorated with warm tones. There was two Queen beds and I now know what it is like to sleep on a cloud.
En-suite bathroom which was divine with a walk in shower and the fluffiest dressing gowns and slippers and there was an array of VOYA products. There was a Nespresso Coffee machine and tea making facilities and complimentary mineral water replenished twice daily with twice daily Housekeeping Service with turndown. There was a hairdryer and in-room safe and the mini bar was available on request. Tv also in the room. The balcony was large with beautiful furniture to enjoy the amazing views. There was a lovely card and a little cake for my father for his birthday.

Every detail of the hotel from the décor to the layout truly created a relaxing environment. We ate in the Heights Lounge and the selection and quality of the food was outstanding. Breakfast was an amazing experience surrounded by beautiful views. There was little added touches throughout our stay that really added to the experience.

While the hotel oozes luxury and is an oasis of calm, what shines through and is a credit to the hotel is the exceptional staff who go above and beyond. They are warm, kind and so friendly with a fountain of knowledge of the area. We had great chats. I would especially like to thank most sincerely Maria at reception, the two Martins and Maura in the Heights Lounge and to Tino in the Lakeside restaurant who looked after us at breakfast during our stay. They really added to our stay.

On the hotel’s website it says ‘Come as a guest, leave as a friend’ and this could not be more true.

We will definitely be returning guests to our now favourite Hotel in Killarney

Having decided to go on our honeymoon in the Aghadoe hotel I contacted the hotel privately to arrange making my wife arrival special. I arranged with the hotel to have champagne, chocolates, petals and a bouquet of flowers in the room for our arrival only to arrive and find just the champagne and chocolates I sent an email to the hotel stating I was disappointed as this was meant to be special they replied apologising for the delay in the flowers and that the petals were to be on the bed in the evening when turning down the bed absolute nonsense.
The petals actually arrived 3 days later in the afternoon you could not make this up, just down to poor management and a complete lack in attention to detail that you expect from a 5 Star hotel. In the 5 days we were there no one came to us personally to apologise. The fact that I was also paying for this disaster it was not that they were not being paid for this special moment.
On checking out I told the receptionist that I was not happy with the hotel on how poor they were in making our honeymoon arrival special, she asked if I wanted the manager I explained no as it was to little to late and it would not change back what happened. I paid in full I did not look for any refund as my gripe was purely on how poor they were in arranging a special surprise on our arrival and money back could never compensate for the disappointment I felt on arrival.
The hotel needs to improve on attention to detail and an understanding of how important certain events are in peoples lives and the impact that their incompetence have on guests.

Dear noelgaffney475, Firstly, may we congratulate you both on your recent wedding we hope you enjoyed a day packed full with wonderful memories and thank you for choosing Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa for your honeymoon stay. I am so sorry and disappointed that your stay did not live up to your expectations We have investigated your comments in relation to the flowers and rose petals not being in place upon your arrival. Having arrived at the hotel earlier then the check in time of pm our front office team made our accommodation team aware that you had arrived earlier and checked you in prior to the check in time of pm. The flowers which we had arranged via a local florist was requested prior to pm so hence the requested bouquet not being in place. Our turn-down service team works their magic after pm and with a Do Not Disturb Sign in place on your room door for two consecutive nights this added room amenity of rose petals on turn-down could not be put in place until day three. We fully take all your comments on board, and appreciate that the small touches which did not take place on the day of your arrival took from the overall enjoyment of your stay with us. We look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you both back to Aghadoe on another occasion in the near future. Kind regards The Management and Staff in Aghadoe

Just checked out and underwhelming is the only way to describe it. Delivery of a 3 star hotel and service for a “5 star hotel”. Having stayed in the Europe a similarly priced hotel in Killarney recently, I would HIGHLY recommend booking the Europe instead.
Booked and paid for a “Lakeview Room” where you cannot see the lake despite ideal weather conditions (see picture below). Swimming pool is tiny with only 2 loungers and 2 seats which were taken when visited on both occasions. A lovely lady working in the spa requested more for us as I am 35 weeks pregnant but even she was denied. Breakfast was okay, would opt to go to Cafe du Parc in town instead. Greasy tasting pancakes with extremely slow service and poor selection at the continental breakfast. Do not recommend.

We stayed as couple for a one night break away. We had stayed at the hotel many years ago and recall it being very friendly and had the 5 star touch however this time this was missing.
The concierge on arrival was super friendly but reception was slow and impersonal. They gave little to no direction on the hotel amenities or details however we found out way around working more on memory.
We had lunch and it was delicious and our room was nice but had a very annoying noise from sink when taps were running.
We booked the thermal suite and were given a very lack lustre tour of the facilities by a young gentleman but enjoyed the relaxation.
We had dinner in the bar area that evening and whilst on the top end of a budget it was delicious as was breakfast the next morning.
Some staff were better than others so I think there’s a lack of consistency in delivering the 5 star experience and I do believe that Aghadoe is loosing its family friendly 5 star advantage.
We drive an EV vehicle and it could have done with a top up on arrival but there was no mention of charger availability albeit I saw some at lower part of car park on departure this morning which is good but disappointing that I wasn’t offered one, it could be a good qualifying question on check in perhaps ?

Aghadoe review

We recently spent a few nights at the Aghadoe as part of our honeymoon.

Unfortunately the stay was extremely disappointing and I am writing this review to try and give others the opportunity to save their money and spend elsewhere.

We arrived on a sunny day and it must be said the location and the view from the lake view rooms are fabulous. The hotel has the potential to be great and I think that was what was so frustrating.

The reception staff were useless. When asked simple questions like for a map of the town or restaurant recommendations they didn’t know and would bleep a concierge (who would be running bags) to come. The concierges were overall helpful but for the front of house to be so unhelpful in a 5 star I found very surprising. We in fact got more helpful information from Tara in the spa than the front of house and I think a little enthusiasm and effort would go a long way here.

We ate dinner two nights: once in the heights bar and one night in the lake view. The food was mediocre and you certainly get a lot more value for money and tastier meals eating in Killarney so highly advise taking a short taxi into the town for food instead.
Breakfast was horrendous. The “avocado” on toast was clearly from a squeezee bottle, the fry had clearly been sitting in an oven for hours as was dry as a rock and didn’t come with the beans on the menu and the eggs Benedict came with a yellow stained water that I assume was supposed to be the sauce.

Dining service was always rushed and one morning after being seated we waited 45 minutes to give out breakfast order. We had a good experience with Maura in the heights bar and overall the waiting staff were polite but just appeared inexperienced and rushed off their feet. Food/ drinks were brought when ready but rarely did anyone “check in” on us so if you wanted something like a glass of water/ condiment you could be waiting quite some time.

The swimming pool is small but fit for purpose and the jacuzzi overlooks the lakes which is lovely (although if a sunny day has an outdoor terrace that people may be sitting looking directly in on you). I appreciate with the lockdowns this probably hasn’t has use in quite some time but there was still visible green algae on some of the tiles around the edge of the jacuzzi so a deep clean would not go amiss here.

The spa was excellent and one of the only saving graces of the stay. Both of our treatments were lovely, the relaxation areas were fabulous and all the staff here were excellent and couldn’t have done more for you.

Having stayed in other 5 star hotels throughout the country I can say that this is very subpar to their competitors. 5 star usually equals excellent service but that’s exactly what this hotel lacks. Please don’t be misled by others reviews swayed by the views and or spa experience. Do book a day visit to the spa but please otherwise do not waste your money staying here! A 5 star price tag but without the experience.
