We have just spent three nights at this hotel.
Had two rooms- a family room and a double room.
We found the family room which looked onto the parking lot very light at night which affected the childrens sleep.
The spotlights cant he turned off they said .
Block out curtains would definitely help make the room darker.
The breakfasts were good and the wifi very good.
The rooms were clean however no toiletries were replaced.
We found the staff to be unfriendly and not willing to assist.
We booked the hotel for its location and indoor swimming pool.
On Monday the pool was closed - the manager advised it was being chlorinated.
We called reception on Sunday to see if we could get a swimming slot and he said he would call us back which never happened.
The man in the swimming pool area was the only member of staff we found to be helpful.
The location is great.
The food in the bar area was mediocre so ate their the first night and not again.

Booked the parkavon very last minute direct with the hotel. Our 1st family break since covid. Hotel has taken measures to protect their guests. All areas we saw were clean. Booked a family suite 2 rooms, 2 adults &2 children (3&5). Perfectly suited our needs as we had stayed here previously when it was the holiday inn. Small renovation to rooms. Main socket usb Plug for iPhone -handy, mattress very comfortable and linen looked/felt new. Bathroom could do with a refurb. Pool small but perfect for our needs, changing rooms closed so bring a dressing gown to come straight to/from room (15 max in pool) pre book only. Breakfast pre book only and table service starter & main! (Cereal/fruit & hot food). Overall would stay again for 1/2 nights.

Dear jencork, Thank you for taking the time to post your review. I am delighted you enjoyed your stay and availed of the onsite facilities. The hotel has to operate within new guidelines due to the pandemic and thank you for having the patience to adhere to the new practice of booking your table for breakfast and for bar food and for your slot in the swimming pool. While this is the new norm, the measures are in place to safeguard the health of our guests and team members. Thank you again for choosing to stay with us & we look forward to welcoming you back to The Parkavon again in the near future. Best wishes, Stephen O' Connor General Manager The Parkavon Hotel Muckross Road, Killarney.

The parkavon was a great location, approx 10 min walk to Killarney. Nicely decorated lobby and clean rooms with very comfy beds. Shower was good and powerful too.

The pool was quite small but did the job just unfortunate that time was limited due to covid.

The staff were mostly pleasant apart from one lady on reception who was abrupt and not very helpful. She was not helpful regarding bookings for breakfast/restaurant and a bit dismissive of us booking through booking.com. A few remarks were made that weren’t pleasant and get dismissive of our group. As the first staff member that is met by guests it dampened the first impression of the hotel.

The room basic but perfect for what we needed for our trip. It was not cleaned during our stay, just the bin changed and a small number of towels replaced. We had to phone reception for new cups, toilet paper and towels where the same receptionist was quite short. It was disappointing that this wasn’t done as standard as it’s a nice touch to come back to the room being freshened up when in a hotel.

The breakfast was good, reasonably priced and was served quickly. The buffet is missed but considering covid the staff were mostly attentive and tried to help with one man being particularly helpful. We were restricted to times for breakfast and refused the opportunity to book in advance as we booked through booking.com and we were left with quite early time slots.

The bar staff were nice and drinks were reasonably priced. We didn’t eat in the restaurant during our stay so can’t comment on it.

All in all it’s a handy location and if the initial receptionist created a better first impression and was more helpful I would recommend the hotel but due to our experience with her I’m not sure I would return.

Dear Aoife McDon, Thank you for your review. Great to read you found the accommodation clean, beds comfy and shower hot & powerful. I am sorry you found our Reception Team didn't create a memorable first impression. I am aware we were unable to provide you with a breakfast reservation which you sought on arrival & it was regrettable the only available time offered was early. I am glad you enjoyed breakfast and the attentive service. Thank you again for your review and we would be delighted if you gave us another opportunity to make that great first impression. Overall our stay was exactly what we expected for the price we paid. The rooms are dated and definitely could do with a face lift. We had a family suite which was ideal as we had a 2 year old and 3 month old. The travel cots do not come with a mattress which is something very important to note- we had 2 out the duvet off the bed into one of them. The rooms were cleaned daily and when we had a spillage and rang about it this we attended to without any hassle. The pool was clean and perfect but not having the changing rooms open wasn't ideal as we had a long walk back to our rooms and we had no gowns!! The hotel is very family friendly and we found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and the bar food was very basic- cutlery given in a basket on the tables. We only ate dinner the first night and cancelled all the other bookings.

My family stayed here for 4 nights and probably the most unpleasant experience I have had in any hotel since Covid.

Our room was not cleaned over our full stay due to ‘Covid’. We could not order room service due to ‘Covid’.

When I asked to have our room cleaned and bed linen changed I was told by reception that they would drop up the linen and we could change it ourselves.

This is not what you would expect for 400e a night in a hotel.

For a recently refurbished hotel the baths were full of mould and the shower heads was a bare dribble of water.

We started our trip in Galway and the hotel here was fabulous, rooms cleaned every day and are finishing our trip in Kilkenny today in the Newpark for 2 nights.

I asked at reception in the newpark if they were cleaning the rooms and the lovely receptionist looked at me in shock and said of course..

The only plus I can give the Parkavon is the bar staff who were more than accommodating and food was great.

Definitely will not be revisiting this hotel

Dear Vikki Mulhall, I am very sorry you are compelled to write such a negative review. The Global Pandemic has lead to countless government restrictions & guidelines in which Hotels are required to operate within. Each department require additional resources to function within these parameters. The cost to service the business has increased greatly and I can assure you your heading couldn't be further from the truth. Your nightly room rate was for 2 family rooms and included breakfast for all. The hotel is offering a reduced housekeeping service due to the global pandemic. Interaction between guests & our team members is kept to a minimum. This was communicated to you on arrival, reinforced with the guest letter and during your stay. I am very sorry bed linen wasn't changed and while it is procedure to drop bagged additional towels/toiletries to a guest room, it is not procedure to drop fresh bagged linen to a guest room. Again please accept my apology if there was miscommunication. On a positive note, I am glad you found our Bar Team & our food to your liking. Enjoy the remainder of your summer. Yours sincerely Stephen O' Connor - General Manager The Parkavon

Stayed here as a family of 5, 2 weeks ago. We received a call a few days before our stay to allocate us some times for the pool and bar/restaurant. The lady I spoke to on the phone was very accommodating and pleasant. I had mixed feelings after reading the reviews but I needn’t have worried. The family rooms are very big. Yes they are a little dated and the lamps on the side of the bed need replacing but the beds were soooo comfortable and it was clean. We were close to the pool on the ground floor and the accommodation staff knocked on the door after our first night and asked us if we needed the room cleaned which we didn’t so she then offered us fresh towels and toiletries. The bar is ok, a little dull, but maybe that’s due to the new coverings around the bar area, the food is fine. Not a huge selection but there is something for everyone on it. The wait is a little longer than normal, I’d maybe suggest someone to wait on the door to greet guests so we didn’t have to wait 15 mins to be seated and after our allocated time. And staff seemed under pressure but we weren’t upset as I’m sure everyone is struggling with the ‘new norm’ at the moment. Found reception staff to be friendly and hotel to be clean. It’s also a short walk to the town so all in all we enjoyed ourselves. It’s not a 5 star hotel but it doesn’t claim to be so if you’re booked in here, ignore the negatives, look for the positives and enjoy your staycation.

Myself, my husband and 9 month old baby have just returned from a 1 night stay in The Parkavon Hotel, Killarney, Co. Kerry.

Firstly, one specific member of staff on reception should not be greating guests. She is very rude to deal with. We arrived early at 12pm and understood our room would not be ready. However we wanted to have lunch in the bar. We were abruptly told it was not open until 3pm, despite the hotels website advertising lunch from 12pm everyday and a large sign outside the property advertising food "served all day".

Once we checked into our room it was immediately clear that cleaning standards were lacking. We had to move the single bed to make room for our travel cot and what was under it was just disgusting, bits of food, false nails.
I also used the main toilet in the lobby at 12pm, the bins were overflowing and there was paper on the floor. When I returned again later that evening at 6pm, the bins were the exact same and the paper was still there. The facilities had not been cleaned in over 6 hours!!!

We had food in the bar in the evening and found it nice but the portions were very small.

We will say that the young staff in the bar and leisure centre are very nice. It was just this older staff member on reception that really should be thought some manners and upset us.

Overall a very disappointing experience and we will not be returning or recommending.

Hello Emma, I am disappointed to read your review and very sorry you did not have an enjoyable experience with us. I have spoken with the accommodation department and highlighted your issues. I am sorry you found a fake nail under the bed - this was unfortunate however these things happen and our team will refocus to ensure the highest standards of hygiene are offered to our guests. A quick call to hotel reception would have given us the opportunity to offer you a room change at that time. I am sorry you were unable to get lunch with us at noon. While our outdoor sign does say "food served daily", another sign at the entrance highlights the hours of operation, 3pm on the day in question. It is good to read you enjoyed your meal later. I am sorry you felt upset when speaking with a team member on your arrival at 12 noon. We offer a friendly relaxed atmosphere in the hotel and having spoken with the Receptionist, she assured me it was neither her intent nor custom to upset, insult or demeanor you or any guest at the hotel. I hope you accept my apology having felt offended. Yours sincerely Stephen O' Connor General Manager - The Parkavon Hotel

Unfortunately I would not revisit your hotel or recommend it to a friend.

The room we were in had a large stain on the side of the bedspread, the beds were the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in and I could not shower my kids as the pressure in the shower was like a power hose. Hurt my skin.

The pool facilities are a joke and there was a plaster on the side of the pool both visits I was there.

We had dinner in the hotel one night and paid €25 plus each for a steak only for it to be served with frozen chips.

The only positive was the girls who served breakfast were extremely nice and a pleasure to deal with.

Overall I considered cutting our holiday short because of the hotel I was so disappointed

Dear KarenC, I am sorry every aspect of your stay was unsatisfactory. Many of the issues could easily have been resolved had you contacted a member of the team. The bedspread could have been replaced, the pressure on the shower is adjustable on the nozzle, the pool team manage as best they can to ensure 250 residents get their daily swim - that's no joke. I'm sure you are aware of the acute staffing shortage which has beset our industry - last years potato peeler is this years chef and I'm sorry our chips were not to your liking . Good to hear you found the girls pleasant at breakfast service. Best wishes in the future, Stephen O' Connor- General Manager - The Parkavon

I would rate this hotel as "very good" because of the price, parking included, proximity to town (10 min walk), facilities, and professional staff. Emelie at the front desk is very professional and kind, and all of the breakfast/bar staff were patient & polite. We asked for a "quiet" room and that is just what they gave us (Room 223). Myself and boyfriend could not have been more thankful for this service. We made a Leisure Centre reservation for 4pm on the Friday, and ended up having the whole place to ourselves! Grand hotel for couples looking for a getaway and small families.

On the weekend of the 12th of August 22 I booked myself and family into this hotel, we all needed a break as we hadn't had one in such a long time.
The lady that greeted us was very nice she booked us in to the pool that evening.
The pool was quite small, it would be okay for a few kids but an adult wouldn't have a comfortable swim.
On the Saturday morning we decided go try the breakfast, we already knew that we had to pay extra for breakfast but didn't realise it was 9e per child. The lady called Hong was very helpful, but the food especially sausage and pudding was not great.
The hotel itself was spotless and cleaning staff very polite.
On Saturday evening we were wondering if we should have food in the bar and were looking at the menu, while we did this the kids were getting excited standing by the sweet machines, it's in a little alcove and we were standing in front of it making sure the kids were not running in the lobby although they were being a bit noisy because they wanted sweets, what looked like a manager came thundering over really quick shouted at the girls "stop running" and went off into the bar, we were all a bit bemused and walked out of the hotel. My eldest who is 8 started crying I thought it was just shock but as the evening went on she got really upset, she wanted to know why the lady shouted instead of asking them. She didn't even want to eat dinner after it, she wanted to go home.
We went back to the hotel an hour later in the hopes to speak to the lady that shouted but she wasn't there nor was she there in the morning.
That night the alarm went off in the room and woke the kids up and there was fighting in the halls.
This hotel would suit couples but definitely not kid friendly.
