After a rainy hike on the Kerry way we got to Black Valley Hostel. It's a basic hostel with some rooms, a kitchen and shared bathrooms. We were very glad to take a hot shower and sleep in a comfortable bed after this wet day. Some travelbooks said there was a little shop in (or near) the hostel, but this was not the case. Thankfully the friendly lady from the hostel gave us some extra cheese and bread so we could continue our hike the next day. The tap water had a weird colour, but we didn't get sick, so i'm sure it's safe to drink.
We stayed a night, through the Gap of Dunloe we came to the hostel, its a hidden gem, the owner was very helpful and plesent, we stayed in a beautiful wooden lodge, with no phone signal it a great way to unwind, the amenities were fantastic with great WiFi, would definitely recommend and will definitely come back at some point, wish we could have stayed longer, The O'Leary family
We stayed here on our first night hiking the Kerry Way from Killarney. It's in a lovely spot. We stayed in a double ensuite room which was detached from the main building. The view from the window of our room was particularly nice and peaceful. Very quiet room, and quiet hostel too. The communal kitchen was very good. The hot chocolate went down very nicely after a cool, wet day on the trail. There is also a small shop at the hostel where you can buy something simple to heat up for dinner.
My husband and I hiked the Kerry Way and this was our second night stay on the trail. The hosts were so kind and very accommodating. Love our private room which is a little cottage behind the hostel. Super adorable and the room was cozy. Bed is comfortable and the shower was refreshing after a day of hiking. The kitchen has lots of room to cook. The host got the wood stove going in the sitting room. Definitely recommend this hostel to hikers and visitors doing the Ring of Kerry. Love this place. Glen & Donna Jackson
This hostel is family-run, well looked after and has a good "vibe". We stayed in a double en-suite room which was actually separate from the main building so felt very private and quiet. The kitchen is really well-equipped and there's a nice fire in the lounge, which the owner lit for us. This is a great spot in the mountains - so different from the tourist crush in Killarney - so we based ourselves here to do a bit of walking.
Stayed here on Day1 of the Kerry Way. My third visit and as good as ever. Got a fine welcome and stayed in a lovely peaceful ensuite room in the lodge at the back. Powerful hot shower a real treat. A delicious healthy dinner (with wine) and breakfast were provided by Siobhan and her sister. Great value all round. Absolutely no complaints and will definitely be back!
We stayed at The Black Valley Hostel just for a night with a couple of friends and everything was absolutely gorgeous. It’s a clean and tidy place, friendly service and a lovely atmosphere. We really appreciate it.
Black Valley Hostel were so accommodating to our small group, the rooms were lovely particularly the in the chalet and were great value. The owners were very friendly and we were able to unwind after travelling before a busy day of hiking, thank you!! There are few locations in Ireland that could match this one
Stayed here with family incl. five adults and two children. Hostel very clean, rooms very comfortable. Family run. Staff friendly and helpful. Stunning rural location in the mountains. Could not ask for more.
The Black Valley Hostel was one of the nicest youth hostel we stayed at while walking the Kerry Way. First of all the location is great. Then we had a double room, in a little house next to the main building. It was nicely decorated and very clean, although maybe a bit cold. The kitchen is well equipped and clean also. You can tell the whole place is being taken good care of. We definitely recommend it!
