stayed here on a saturday night in a family room with private bathroom, took a chance on the place given that some reviews were good, really disappointed with it, there was a smell of damp along the hallway/where the rooms were, the carpets were stained and the curtains in our room were practically hanging off & were also badly frayed around the edges, the bathroom appeared as if it hadn't been cleaned at all, just had the bin emptied - there were a previous guests pubic hairs on the floor behind the door! just charming! - the bathroom tap was dirty & obviously hadn't been cleaned, the large mirror in the bedroom was filthy, it had 2 hand prints visible on it, we stayed in the hotel bar next door as long as we could knowing what we were going back to! - the only good thing about it was the bed was comfortable - we didn't go down for breakfast, just went across the road to super valu after checking out ..... i always try to give places a chance even with some bad reviews but i definitely would not stay here again or recommend it to anyone - also note when checking in they require a passport or driving licence number, neither of which i had on me - they used my husband's driving licence number instead as he was driving. one more thing - there were 2 side/back doors open the whole time we were there upto maybe 11pm on the saturday night so ANYONE could have walked in there & been in around the hallways & rooms so not very safe…
Booked a family room for my boyfriend and I, young staff member checked us in around 8pm on Saturday evening, really lovely friendly, room was clean, towels provided in the room, bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, on Sunday morning at check out - which is at 10am - woman went around knocking on doors opening rooms telling people it was half an hour until check out. never experienced this before, thankfully we were dressed and on the way out as she approached our door. the woman on reception at check out was dealing with a previous guest mentioning that a woman who was banned got into the hostel the night before and kept other guests awake. Receptionist on check out wasn't pleasant to us at all - Barely acknowledged and had no interest in asking us how our stay was - took the room card and number of room and that was that. Boyfriend and I wasted our time going to "breakfast" - as other guests have also mentioned. When our friends went to hand back there key, from another room, they were accused of bringing 15 (???) people back to their room that night and told they had to pay for other guests inconvenience. they had no complaints made to them at night, and had been in reception with the night staff chatting to them. Receptionist was rude and told our friends they were banned if they didn't pay. If our friends had felt they were being loud or had warnings made to them at night they would have paid. For this reason, purely on a customer service/staff point of view i would not recommend this hostel. I've worked in the hospitality industry and never seen guests treated in this way, even in other hostels.…

A basic hostel that does the job. 3 Lakes Hostel could seriously benefit from some renovations before the state of it continues to decline further. Carpets were stained, leak in the shower etc. Guest facilities like the lounge and dining room were overcrowded and would benefit from additional seating. I found it difficult to find any privacy while here. Though the hostel is conveniently located opposite a SuperValu, it is also basically on a roundabout and quite a distances walk from town. Travellers with a car would benefit more from this hostel than those on foot like myself. It is also important to remember when booking that 3 Lakes is also a budget hotel so at times, there are many young families staying. Not the atmosphere for solo travellers.
Past weekend I led 60 odd people up the Carrauntoohil peak and we all stayed at the 3 lakes hostel for 2 days. I've never been in this hostel previously, but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the rooms and service. Beds couldn't be more comfortable and showers aren't your typical basic hostel type. Load of us felt like we were staying at the hotel. Aside all the comfort, staff and management team were super helpful and hospitable, great problem solvers! For me, it was the key as looking after 60+ people is a challenge in itself and I couldn't have done it without hostel staff. They had an answer for every question, they provided great service to each and every one of us, check-ins and check-outs ran quickly and smoothly. We also had a dinner at the hotel Killarney after climbing the highest mountain in Ireland, and hotel manager has kindly treated every one of us with a free glass of prosecco as to celebrate out achievement - which was very generous and very considerate! Thank you! I look forward to come back next year!…
The staff was really friendly and take care of people there. I asked before my stay if I could have an alternative option to milk because I am vegan and they provided for my breakfast with almond milk, that was nice! I travelled with my bike for the Ring of Kerry Cycle and my bike was kept safe in the Hotel beside the Hostel and also in the Hostel's shed the next day. I only think they could have extra showers out of the rooms, but I still would recommended because of the friendly atmosphere and quite hostel despite of the busy weekend.
Very good value, clean and quiet hostel on the edge of Killarney town with adjoining hotel facilities. Rooms were a bit warm though, and bathrooms are quite basic, but still highly recommended overall.
Really enjoyed our stay here. Excellent facilities such as crazy golf, a play park and use of the hotels swimming pool for €5. A five minute drive from the centre (a 20 minute walk). Also close to Killarney National park and only 7 minutes from kennedys Pet farm which is great for the whole family. Breakfast was very basic, we went to supervalu and got some extra bits as it was just toast and cereal. But for the price we weren't expecting anything more. Communal sitting room was great and the TV had Netflix. Overall we had a fantastic stay as a family of five and would recommend it to others.
Friendly welcoming staff even rang us a taxI for town, easy check in and check out in morning. Breakfast was great complimentary and self serviced. Private room was clean, bunk beds were comfortable. Hostel was nice and quiet even for bank holiday weekend.
We visited this hostel on Sunday night, at first thinking it was the hotel we had booked as we have a 3&2 year old. From the minute we got here staff went out of their way to help us. They made it fun for our kids. There was 2 lots of bunks in the room and the fetched us a travel cot at 9 at night. They gave us free entry to the swimming pool gave us towels for our room. The girl on reception could not have been more helpful and friendly to our excited little travelers 😂the hostel even has gluten free bread and cereal which is a big plus for us as we have a little girl who is gluten intolerant. We would not hesitate to recommend here and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
