This was a wonderful place to stay in Galway. It is right near the Spanish Arch and in a great location to walk to restaurants, pubs, and do some sightseeing. The covered parking is great! They do take the time you say you will check in literally, as we arrived a little early and could not get in, but decided to walk around instead. We had the room on the top floor which has a fun little balcony for overlooking the birds and the boats. The port wine was a nice touch and they had a great list of things to do/restaurant and pub recommendations. The shower was great and the towel warmer was a nice touch. Bed was very comfy and we slept well. We could hear people moving around a bit in the morning, but as it was not super early, we were not troubled by it. The breakfast was wonderful. Everything was very fresh and local and light and it was a great way to start the day. Silvia was lovely to talk to and so accommodating to everyone. Highly recommend.
This place is even better than the pictures. The location is perfect, the person working there took such great care of us! The breakfast is absolutely fantastic and we just can't say enough about the place.
We had a great 2 days at the Heron's Rest. Silvia was so helpful with whatever we needed. The room was comfortable. Breakfast was great, and the location is perfect. Having a parking spot in a garage was icing on the cake. We really enjoyed our stay there.

We received the last room available for the whopping price of €175.- for one night with parking!!!! We decided to accept it anyway because we weren’t accustomed to pricing and standards in the area, etc. Unfortunately, we found out during the night that it was possible to light up our room quite brightly without having turned a switch on! Our room was separated in the stairwell from the other rooms with a glass wall/door. When the other guests came home after we had gone to sleep, they would turn the stairwell light on to get to their rooms. This would inevitably wake us. The light wouldn’t be turned off and we would eventually have to do this ourselves. The lightswitch was very inconveniently out of reach. Not only did we have to get up to turn it off but we had to go downstairs and outside the glass door/wall to reach the switch because we couldn’t find a switch closer to us!!!!!! This left a rather bad impression of this B&B, which was to begin with, in our opinion and experience through the rest of our trip, quite expensive. On a positive note, the room and B&B was clean and the service and homemade breakfast from the lovely lady (originally from Italy) was great.......I would give her 5 stars!
This was our second visit, in 3 years to the Heron's Rest B&B and I am glad to say our visit was as enjoyable as our first trip was ! Many, many thanks to Silvia who prepared our SUPER, WONDERFUL breakfast meals for 3 days and made sure everything was AOK! The B&B has off street parking which was great as casual driving in Galway is not needed !! We took a cab to the Trad-on-the Prom concert and to the Crane Bar for Irish music. The B&B is right down town near the Spainish Arch within walking distance to almost everything. The rooms are compact but the beds and bath are great ! If you drive into Galway from the north, come in from Salthill. We stayed here during mid-to late Sept.
In Galway City centre The Herons Rest lies nestled on the banks of the river Corrib overlooking the traditional Claddagh harbour. This idyllic waterside location is only 3 mins from the hustle and bustle of …Morethe centre of town and the 'craic' of Galway's Latin Quarter. We offer 3 double sea view ensuite bedrooms with gourmet breakfast buffet and also one 3 bedroom self-catering townhouse which can be booked as one unit for groups or families. Each cosy chic bedroom has stunning views overlooking the Claddagh Harbour and the famous Galway Bay. Outside the water is teaming with wildlife such as, otters, herons and the largest colony of mute swans in Western Europe. Traditional sailing boats named 'Galway Hookers' can be watched setting sail from your bedroom window and our binoculars enhance the view that stretches across to the Burren Hills. We call it 'keeping it country in the city'. Our philosophy at The Herons Rest is to ensure our guests get the best of Galway. Welcome! Less
