We booked at Claremount House for 96 Euros for one night (+ 3% fee for paying by credit card). This was the most expensive place we stopped during our week in Ireland, so we expected something special. The welcome from Anna was friendly, with tea and biscuits available on arrival. However we then found that there were no tea or coffee facilities in the room - there were also signs up stating that we could not eat or drink in our own bedroom - we did not think this was particularly hospitable. The walk into Galway was pleasant enough, but it was a long trek, so would not recommend to those who do not fancy lots of walking. Breakfast was good in the morning. but we did not feel that we got value for money.

While traveling in Ireland, our itinerary changed which necessitated canceling our 2-night stay at the Claremount House in Salthill, Galway. Two nights before we were to arrive, I sent an email to cancel our reservation & requested the courtesy of a response. Not receiving one, I went out of my way to make a long distance call from a public pay phone to ensure the cancellation email had been received only to be told to call back in 5 minutes. I called back and spoke with whom I suppose was the owner, Anna. She was extremely rude and verbally abusive regarding the cancellation. She wanted to know where I was just then, which was none of her business. She went on a tirade about canceling and "pitied the next establishment we were going to stay at." I attempted to calm her down, I apologized profusely for not providing more notice, but to no avail. Perhaps two days is not enough notice for canceling a reservation, however, there was no call for the proprietor to be rude and verbally abusive.

Dear PhoenixHotspot 4 if only I could replay our phone conversation the truth would be known. Your party of 4 booked through my website for 2 nights arriving on Wednesday 30th June. Before you could proceed with the booking you had to agreee to our cancellation policy which was 5 days, you booked and a deposit of 7.60 was taken from your credit card which was very small on a party of 4. I wonder if the booking deposit was more the decision to cancel might not have come so easily. (This deposit goes to our booking agent and not to Claremount House). At 9pm on Monday night I received an email from you to cancel the reservation, no explanation as to why. This was less than 2 days notice. Then on Tuesday morning around 10am my daughter took a phone call from you , she asked you to call back as I was checking guests out. When my guests had left I phoned you back on the number that came up on my phone, the Hudson Bay Hotel in Athlone answered which is about 1 hours drive from Claremount, this is the long distance phone call you mentioned in your review. I asked the girl at receiption was your party there and could I speak to you, but in the mean time you phoned my moblie, you told me that the party decided not to travel to Salthill. I reminded you of our cancellation policy and said I had lost business as a result of her actions, but before long a male voice had taken control of her phone and started shouting obscene language down the phone and hung up and you have the audasicity to review Claremount House on trip advisor in less than twelve hours in such a fashion that could have a detrimental affect on my business . You were totally in the wrong. When a booking is cancelled so late it is normal to take the first nights deposit from the credit card number that is given when the booking is made, you were aware of this as this formed part of the booking print out,it is in bold print at the bottom of the page , you cancelled at the last minute, and you made sure your credit card didn't work (it was declined). The Hudson Bay Hotel is a sister company of the Galway bay Hotel in Salthill. I phoned the Galway Bay Hotel on Wednesday (the day you were meant to come to Claremount) and they confirmed that a party by the same name was due in the afternoon. Isn't it ironic that the 2 negative reviews that I have received are from persons that did not stay with us here in Claremount House, it was me that was SHOCKED by your actions!

We loved our stay at Claremont House. Anna was the most gracious host. My friend is an early riser and likes coffee as soon as she gets up. Even though it was well before breakfast was to be served, Anna told her to knock on the kitchen door and made her an individual press of coffee. We had some delightful conversations with her at breakfast and she makes the best brown bread. Beds were super comfy and location was great for a walk along Galway Bay as well as taking the ferry to the Aran Islands. Bus stop is close if you want to take a bus into Galway. I chose to drive and park in the cathedral parking lot. I would definitely stay there again.

The room was clean and quiet, the breakfast was filling and delicious (especially the fresh berries and scones), and the location is convenient. It is not in the middle of Galway but is walking distance to Salthill restaurants. We stayed two nights and tried the nearby golf course restaurant the first night. Great food there.

Ann welcomed us with tea and/or coffee when we first arrived and we eventually met the entire family so we really did feel at home. Ann and her husband were able to give us excellent advice on places to see and routes to get there.

Very nice to place stay, rooms are clean with nice décor and comfortable beds, with a good sized ensuite shower room, not forgetting a wonderful view
I was with a group of four other bikers and we were very well received considering that we arrived late ( around 8.50pm).
Not having had dinner we asked our host Anna to recommend some where to eat, and she kindly suggested a pub not to far away. She phoned the place, got us a table and ordered a taxi for us all, after quick shower etc taxi arrived and one of our group ( who has to look the part with power and aftershave) missed it.!! Anna the owner kindly give him a lift to the pub where the food and Guinness was first class. We wanted an early start so Anna and her husband very kindly got up early to make breakfast ready at 7.30am, which was excellent, better than hotel standard with home made bread and freshly cooked eggs. Anna even made sure we took some fruit with us for later in the day. Anna was good craic and we all enjoyed the stay.
I will be back in Galway so I made sure to take the details of Claremount House because I will stay there before a hotel any day.
Grumpy old hairy Biker
Colin.

Regretfully could only stay 1 night in this gorgeous luxury B& B. We went direct via the www. Welcoming host, lovely room, spotlessly clean, divinely comfy bed with luxuriously cosy pillows and duvet. View was lovely along the coast. Anna was a superb host. Brekkie delicious and plenty of wished. We appreciated the little touches.. the wee chocs in the room and on our brekkie table and the bottled water in the room. Would highly recommend this place and we will return here if we ever come back to Ireland.

My husband and I stayed for one night while passing through Galway in early June. Places like this are why Ireland has such a wonderful reputation for hospitality. The owners and family are friendly, welcoming, and genuine. We felt like we were visiting a family member, who happens to have a great view, and cooks a mean Irish breakfast. Our room was elegant and clean. It was one of the best nights of sleep we had during our time on the west coast. Highly recommended!!

Anna made me feel very welcome and offered a cup of tea on arrival. Additionally she was able to provide tourist and local information which was very helpful. The room and shower room was spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable. Located a short drive outside of Galway, it is a relatively quiet location.
