Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We arrived in Galway during the red flag warning for Isha Storm. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The underground parking was great to have during the storm. We enjoyed our drinks and dinner in the bar area. The staff was great there too! Try the prawns, humus and beef stew if you can. All tasted great! Quick walk to a lot of shops and restaurants. A few stairs even though lift got us to our 3rd floor. Nothing we couldn’t handle. Our room was clean. Glad we tried this hotel!

Very good good location just a minutes walk from Eyre Square, a lovely old building with a graceful old fashioned door and main entrance but well maintained. Free underground secure parking a real bonus, plenty of room for my car on a Sunday evening but I imagine it can busy at popular times. A friendly welcome from reception and an absolutely lovely spacious family room with everything we needed, had an excellent nights sleep. Super breakfast with a lovely waitress, great buffet spread and a delicious cooked breakfast nicely presented. Excellent value overall, I’d love to return to the Western

Hotels in Galway City are expensive, but The Western is reasonably priced and ideally situated to the centre of the city. The parking is limited on site but is well managed by the staff so you don't have to worry about it when you arrive if there are no spots available. We found the staff very friendly and the room clean and comfortable. Getting to the room is a little bit complicated through various doors but nothing too concerning. Very nice breakfast and overall a great place for an overnight stay.

Stayed one night here with family. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfy. Staff are kind an courteous. Underground carparking is a plus. Downside lift was not working but staff more than willing to go the extra mile to carry our bags to our rooms.

Both rooms offered were very cold and manager’s attitude was dreadful . Told us to accept or leave in fifteen minutes. Owner came and his attitude was so aggressive he reduced me ,a 72 year old woman , to tears. Thankfully we went to another hotel where everything was perfect .

Response from Western Hotel, General Manager at The Western Hotel
Responded 7 Dec 2023
Dear Marie, We are upset to see this review and that you have described your brief experience here as "harrowing", considering your version of events is not consistent with ours. When you checked in, you complained that your room was cold. We immediately moved you to a room where you could control the heating yourself and we asked our porter to check the settings on the heater for you. Our manager on duty then went to check on you and was immediately shouted at by yourself and your partner. Before you had even unpacked, you threatened the manager that you were going to put up bad review on Tripadvisor and that it would give you "great satisfaction" to do so. He never told you to "accept or leave in fifteen minutes." He kept trying to explain to you that the heating was working and you just needed to give it a few minutes to allow the room to heat up more. He also offered you an extra portable heater. You then mentioned that you would like to leave and the manager gave you the option of free cancellation for your stay even though it was 5pm in the evening and outside of our cancellation window. He at no point told you to leave and merely responded to your statement that you would like to leave. You were also upset that you were asked to pay for the reservation upon arrival, a policy that is standard in not just our hotel, but across the industry. In relation to the owner, he was also upset that you were rude and aggressive towards a member of his staff and he went to speak to you before you departed. He at no point was aggressive himself, as you have described. We hope that our version of events make you rethink and remember what actually happened. Best regards, The Western Hotel Team
