Stayed here for three nights recently excellent stay rooms were spacious and comfortable -breakfasts were fresh and great variety - had dinner in Prom restaurant one evening was great value for four courses
Leisure facilities were top class a large swimming pool with a minor pool and steam/Sauna rooms.
Overall an excellent experience finally the staff were very friendly which means so much.
We had our wedding reception there many years ago and thankfully the standards have been maintained
Would go back again anytime.

We arrived the end of July for a couple of days. check in was quick not much interaction and no mention of where anything was. Pool, breakfast, room etc.

The bad:
No AC and it was so hot in the room. The window had a child lock on and you can barely fit a hand through. It is a really small narrow window that opens. When called reception it was up to us to ask for a fan. When the fan arrived covered in dust and not from the last 10 yrs it was all we could use the whole time we we were there. One night we woke up to the heat been that hot I thought we would pass out. Had to sleep with cold wet towels on us.
Bar in hotel:
1st night we went to the bar for dinner at 8. Had booked a table but still had to queue and they took a while for menu and order to be taken. Got our starters and waited over an hour and half for the main to arrive. We were later told they lost our main order. We were told there was only 1 cocktail on offer until bar man decided to make some for others customers. While we waited for 1 cocktail to be made one of the barman poured part of my bf pint and for the next 20 mins keep topping it up so it didn't appear flat. We had to ask for a fresh pint and barman wasn't happy.
When we asked another day if we could buy a pint to bring to our room we were told it would be a €10 room service charge.
If you are going to stay make sure you bring a bottle opener as there is only one in the whole hotel. (This was what we were told)

The Good
The room was a good size.
Bed was comfortable
Cleaning staff were helpful
Swimming pool employees were good and kept to time slots and made sure everyone was social distancing in the pool and area is cleaned.
Prom Restaurant: was one of the nicest places I've eaten in. Get the fish cakes you wont be disappointed 🙂 The employees were brilliant. I think our waiter was called Kevin and he was great at his job. The food was amazing and would highly recommend it. We also spoke with a lady jennifer and she was lovely to deal with.

On the the 3rd of Oct 2020 the Salthill hotel hosted a Memorial Service for both my parents who sadly passed away earlier this year.
I was overwhelmed by the attention to detail that staff provided in preparing for the event. The event manager Lorraine is a pure star and went out of her way to make sure every detail was addressed.
We had a beautiful service in the Aran suite followed by a wonderfully delicious meal. The meal was outstanding from beginning to end and a credit to the chef and kitchen crew.
All covid restrictions were adhered to and hand sanitizer was available at many points and mask were worn by staff and guests. There were a mixed group of guests from young children to octogenarians, the hotel provided tables that were socially distant and observed family group guidelines. Everyone felt so safe and were very impressed with the care demonstrated by the staff.
A number of guests including myself stayed over night and were delighted with the rooms, pool and breakfast service. Many commented that they would return next year.
I really want to thank each and every member of the Salthill Hotel staff, both those front of house and behind the scenes who made the Memorial service such a special event. Stay safe and I hope the next few months are prosperous for the hotel in these trying times.

We arrived to the hotel in the afternoon and after checkin we were told that our 2 rooms are on the first floor and the lift was the old white one behind reception. We already felt that something is not right. The corridor is narrow and ceilings are low and doors look small too. It’s a very old part of the hotel with old decorations and paint.
We were shocked when we accessed the bedrooms. They had an old smell and the windows from outside were filthy and covered in dirt. The window handle was broken.
We couldn’t even see the sky as there was a wall right in front of the window, when we opened the window it was noisy as it was the area where they keep all the air conditioners. See the photos I included here.

It was super hot in the room with no ventilation or air conditioner not even a ventilator in the bathroom. The bed was old, curtains had holes, the bed at the bottom around was filthy, bathroom sink was filthy too. I am sure that a hostel would have been better than this so called 4 stars hotel.

They call it a family room but it was very small with one double and one single bed. No much room to move round. And the TV cables were covered in tape to cover exposed wires. This is so dangerous for kids, completely irresponsible.

We asked to be moved to other rooms but they had nothing available. We ended up having to find another place to stay that night. We planned to stay for 2 nights. Our weekend was ruined and the kids were very upset. We thought we will have a fun and nice family holiday.

Very disappointed and would not advise anyone to book as you never know which rooms you will end up getting. The worst experience I have ever had with an hotel at this level. The hotel we moved to in another city that night was a great experience.

Stayed the last two nights in Salthill hotel, it was enjoyable and staff were very friendly, especially a lovely lady server in the black rock bar (blonde hair) she couldn’t have been nicer and food was very good. Room was very average, view was non existent as looked over a skylight and other rooms ( blame the architect) Beds very comfy but room needs updating. Had to move kettle to plug in to the only plug in the room. Bit of a pain when your going off for the day and need to get phones charged. No glasses in the room. No sanitiser on tables in restaurant which is now mandatory in all restaurants. Lovely location and got to walk the prom each morning. We went earlier than booked each morning for breakfast but wasn’t a problem and it was again prompt and service was excellent.

All in all a good experience and we were just happy to get away.

From what I hear some of the rooms are lovely in this hotel but when you check in if you are told to go around to the back of the reception area to the small, old, white lift you're in for a shock. We had a room on the 1st floor that looked straight into a huge wall that wasn't even 2m from the window with ventilation ducting running up it. We couldn't even see the sky never mind the sea!! Strange loud noises coming from the floors above too. The room itself was very dated with wallpaper pealing off the walls, loose electrical sockets, etc.

Food in the restaurant was ok but when you pay for steak in a 4 star hotel you would expect the onion rings with it to be handmade and not frozen ones from a supermarket. Came out of the restaurant and went in to the bar only to be told that the four of us would need to buy a meal if we wanted drinks. We had just eaten so thought we'd bring drinks out to the lobby. They said they couldn't serve me drinks outside the bar. Decided to go up to the bedroom and order room service drinks only to be told we can't get drinks to the room without ordering meals!!! Unbelievable stuff, you couldn't make it up. Some people drinking in the lobby were able to keep going back in to the bar for drinks so there's no consistency whatsoever (They had come out of the bar after their dinner if that makes a difference?).

Booked a time slot for breakfast but came down to a queue for 25 minutes. Breakfast was lovely on the first morning. Second morning there was no queue but the service was shocking. Group on table beside of us came in after us but ordered and served before us. My wife's breakfast came around 20 minutes after we ordered but after 45 minutes the two kids and myself still had nothing. Had to go looking for staff to ask what was going on. The kids were only looking for pancakes! Same thing happened on the table beside us.

Went on to a hotel in Sligo from here and the rules were completely different. Wouldn't recommend this hotel during Covid as they are all over the place with their rules, rooms in the old part are dreadful and breakfast service is unreliable. We nearly missed our time slot for the pool because the breakfast took over an hour!

Arrived for a 2 day trip with my sister , mother and nieces and nephew. Check in was pleasant we dropped our belongings to the room and went straight to the pool which was nice and we enjoyed. After the pool we went straight to the bar for our slot for dinner. Service in the bar was non existent we waited 25 mins for a menu and had to call for someone for anything we needed such as cutlery or a desert menu, we were then overcharged on the bill. My mother went to reception and they took a copy of the receipt and said they would look into it.....we did not hear anything back about it and we did not received the money we were over charged back. Upon going to our two rooms we found in 1 room sweets an ear ring a plastic cup and Pringles. I might add my 1 year old niece picked up a mouldy minstrel sweet . We were so lucky she went to give it to me instead of putting it in her mouth and choking on it. In the other room we had we found a mobile phone and crisps under the night stand. In the first room the bed sheets were ripped. Not 4 star at all . So dangerous especially during Covid. We were promised by the duty manager our room would be deep cleaned and beds changed in the morning. Much to our surprise our rooms were still the same when we returned the next morning. The duvet cover was flipped over so the ripped side was on the other side. At this point I had had enough and went to speak to the manager . She was very polite and apologetic . We received complimtary dinner and breakfast, roisin the manager had promised to carry out a full investigation we got moved to another room, on arrival there was no travel cot which we had to go back down and ask for. I expressed how I would not be happy to pay full price for the night we had to spend in a dirty room roisin had apologised and said she would "take a look at our bill". Upon check out I asked about the bill and the over charged in bar to which the receptionist told me she didn't know about it. I was fed up at this stage of arguing and fighting for a clean and safe environment for a staycation.
Be very careful staying here we felt very unsafe and left disappointed. 560 euro for 2 nights. Definitely not 4 star at all.

We stayed here for one night. We picked this hotel to have a sea view and to use the pool facilities. Unfortunately we were given a room near the kitchen, with no views and could hear the loud fans. It sounded like a plane was taking off outside our window. Accommodation itself was very basic, room small and old fashioned. We also could not use the pool either as they were booked out. It seems that it is open to the public. Very disappointed with this as that was main reason we booked this hotel. The breakfast was also extremely average. Service was very poor, I asked if the scrambled egg has dairy in it as I’m allergic and the waitress said “I dunno I guess it does” without offering to check or help. Also was served tea with no teaspoon, sugar or milk. The receptionist Emily was very nice and helpful. Overall I’m very disappointed with the hotel and would not recommend staying here.

Just back from the Salthill Hotel myself and my mum we booked the Lidl breaks special 3 nights b&b and 1dinner. We have stayed here over the years and I was a bit worried after reading all the reviews over the last Two months but I have to say we had no issues at all. We had a huge twin room which was really nice. The beds were so comfy, I had asked for a shower instead of a bath, the bathroom was a great size and looked liked newly tiled. We decided to order breakfast to the room for the first two mornings which was lovely and very hot when it arrived. We ventured down for the last morning and again the breakfast was lovely. We had dinner in the prom 2 course was part of our deal and I have to say it was really good, we both enjoyed it. All the staff we encountered were very nice and friendly.
Maybe it’s a hit and miss for some people but I have to say it was a hit for us.

I try to be honest and make the difference with what to imput to Covid.19 restrictions and what was really disappointing...
The view in Room 323 is not the "WOWWW" I did expect, last room in the far corner of the corridor so you're facing a big yellow building and after a vast expanse of the parking view, you can see the sea on your left. I wouldn't pay extra for a "Seaview" again here (website pictures look so much better)
We went back downstairs but there was nothing the (nice and sorry) receptionnist could do. Next, the Covid has stripped the room from all "non-essentials" like kettle, housekeeping service, directory etc...but when asked the staff did give us a kettle and we ordered the full service to clean the room.
Dinner menu was dreadful, no healthy option except the Caesar Salad, all very overpriced fast food type fried food...Never again.
Some of the hand sanitizers were not filled up, or altogether missing, like downstairs when you come from the parking. Some staff removed their masks to speak to guests.
Booking one hour slot for the pool was a painful experience, then it is really only 3/4 of an hour.
Overall the staff (except the lady taking dinner bookings at the Bar on Friday eve) were doing their best, wore masks most of the time and were pleasant, special mention to a young chap in the bar he was good banter but we won't come back again.Salthill is a wonderful place with lots of other accommodation options, and proper seaviews !

There is a big lap pool, a smaller, warmer, pool that is about 3-4' deep. There is then a small pool for toddlers. So, yes, children can go in one of the smaller pools. There are restrictions to the lap pool, but I didn't notice the age limit as I had no intention of going in there anyway.
