The staff in the bar/restaurant were really friendly despite being under pressure and very busy. Really handy location only a few minutes to the beach and cafes/restaurants and around 20 min walk to Galway city

The hotel are probably expecting this review but anyways, here goes...We arrived as a family of 4 in July and paid 580 for 2 nights bnb with 1 dinner, in a a family room. In a nutshell the service in this hotel is shockingly poor.It started with our arrival lunch, we had 3 different servers so I'll blame this for the long wait, total confusion. Kids were getting ratty waiting nearly an hour for their food. Move on to check in, a smooth enough operation. Rooms were terribly hot, we also had no toiletries and I had to ask twice for same. Dinner that evening, well such a palaver, they honestly had no idea what they were at. We waited (from main) 40 mins for a bowl of ice cream for kids, when we complained we were told the chef was under extreme pressure. We were given the bottle of wine and steak subsidiary on house. Breakfast is fine, no coca pops tho!! Dinner following evening was worse. We wanted bar food, was told we had to wait 10 mins, no problem, he was to come get us in lobby, but he didn't. Eventually we were seated in restaurant, on bar menu, at approx 8.30... kids were served their desert at 11.10. Ill say no more. Upon checkout the nice lady informed me my complaints throughout my stay were noted, in other words no point saying again. She said they are aware there is a serious issue with food service and working hard on same. I gave my twopence worth again, said for a family holiday we need the children to be a priority, only that way will parents also enjoy break. Some positives, swimming pool is lovely and you don't have to book, food, when you get it tastes lovely, bar is nice, not strict on 11pm close.... and finally, due to the utter confusion between the staff, they omitted to charge for quite alot of drinks, I did tell them once or twice but gave up then. Perhaps by saying this they will pull their socks up!!!!! But I won't be returning.

We had stayed here about eight years ago and really enjoyed this hotel. We decided to come back as a break from home during the Covid-19 restrictions. The hotel is still of a very high standard and first impressions really count. Parking from the promenade is really easy and the reception team are all very friendly and helpful. Our sea view room was large and comfortable and we enjoyed four nights rest and sleep. Housekeeping is excellent and a fresh bottle of water delivered to the room each day. We had also booked four dinners as part of the package and these were €30 per person and served in the main hotel restaurant. The food was lovely and the wine list is good. Just a niggle, but a niggle all the same. These are from a table d'hôte menu with a choice of three main courses plus a steak at a €10 surcharge. This did not change for the entire four night stay, so a repeat was necessary- we don't eat steak! Service was generally good, although on one night, we seemed to be invisible and missed out on a dessert! Salthill Hotel is in an ideal location and always a pleasure to stay in, especially when the sun shines as it did everyday during our break.
