TBH, when I saw the negative ratings for this place on TA, I booked somewhere else. That place was appalling and I ended up at 10.30 at night, needing a place to stay. The receptionist who took my call was charming. The hotel itself was only a 5 minute drive from the Centre, and had ample free parking. My room was luxurious, with two double beds, flat screen TV and all the amenities you would expect from a hotel. The bar and restaurant were closed for renovation but,as I am not really a breakfast person and the room had tea and coffee-making facilities, it didn't affect me. And, best of all, the room cost half that of the one that was too awful to stay in. I don't often give five stars but I was super impressed by this hotel and its cheerful obliging staff.
The staff at the glenn oak lodge are wonderful couldn't fault them. The room is nice and the bed was very comfortable. The problem is the noise. The walls are paper thin so can hear every sound and people screaming and shouting at all hours of the night.
They charged my account 100 euro and told me it was because I was smoking in the room. I was 100% NOT smoking. I made a joint in the room and went out to smoke and some tobacco and marijuana was left on the table. This was their proof that I was smoking in the room. Ridiculous. Having such a headache dealing with booking.com and my bank trying to get this money back.
If it seems too good to be true it usually is. At the price I paid I realy should not have expected much anyway. I would definitley not call this place a hotel but maybe a step above a hostel at best. The walls are paper thin. It is beyond noisy. I could hear people cough, sneeze and every minor movelemnt. I would say the walls in my house are more sound proof. Tv was broke, kettle was broke, no toiliteries, bed was cheap and not comfortable, a very light skimpy duvet. Fire alarm then went off at about 2am so there was a stampede for the stairs, false alarm, no idea what caused it. Unless I was badly stuck I really would not be returning.
Stayed here for one night, and we were very pleased at the quality of service we received: The staff were extremely friendly. The room was very well priced and exceeded our expectations, the bed was extremely comfortable and slept like a baby.
There was no bar or restaurant due to refurbishment but we were only told this major detail after booking. When I raised this with the hotel I got a message back saying I had an option to cancel. I think such a major detail should have been notified to customers before booking. I went here with a friend for a weekend break, the other guests in the hotel were banging and slamming doors , shouting etc all night long (until 2am - 7.30am) on the second floor, could not sleep and reception done little or nothing to address the clientele (supposed to be 24/7cover on reception). There was no way they could not have heard the raucous going on. There are no phones in the room so could not ring down and was afraid to leave my room to address the issue as there were alot of people involved. The doors need to be pulled shut causing a slam either way. The shower was luke warm at best and had issues getting a hot shower. Late check in at 4pm and an early check out at 11am which we were charged €199 for. on night stay. If you wanted to check out at 12pm it was another €20 for the privildege I struggle to find any positives in this "hotel" perhaps that the check in staff seemed friendly and shower gel is provided. Clean towels. No alcohol is allowed in the rooms. Only 2 channels on the TV Never again!…
Absolutely terrible!!! No working TV, no running hot water!!! Do not stay here if you want the basics from hotel! Advised by staff that they would refund some money for the tv and water not working and then the next day basically got laughed at by the staff member!
Great hotel if you love college age drunks shouting down the hallways all night trying to break into your room. The thermostat on the radiator is locked so you either broil in the room or freeze when you turn it off. Rooms are small and close together with thin walls so you can hear everything going on on all sides of you and then some. We would go to another hotel if we hadn’t already paid for the other nights. Would not recommend ever.
Horrible!! Booked with my child and after checking in to the room they advised I could not stay. Hotel filthy and staff horrible. This is a hostel not a hotel! Being advised I could not stay as I had a child was a blessing in disguise they did me a favour!! Much better accommodation can be found in galway for the same price. My advice to anyone thinking of booking there is to avoid at all costs!! Filthy dump!
This hotel is a great wee spot. Stayed numerous times. The staff are friendly. The rooms are clean, comfy and warm. They are doing up the restaurant but seems to be taking a long time as I was there last oct and doing renovations so hopefully nice when finished. Give you something for the parking. McDonalds is close. Highly recommend.
