Detailed Reviews
We said we would be back here, and we were not disappointed. As soon as you step inside the door you can see that whatever this renovation cost it was money well spent. The tiling, carpets, furniture, doors and bathroom fittings are all top class and tastefully done. Mr. O Connor the General Manager was true to his word from our last visit, much appreciated. He will always engage with the guests with a friendly word and a smile.
A bit of a walk through the Hotel to the Gym (24hr now) and leisure area Pool etc. very spacious and well equipped. Fine big Bar with different table layout for food. great deserts. Bedrooms are spacious, very big comfortable bed, tea/coffee, bottled water, and a safe. Breakfast was so so. Great Porridge with lots of additions available and all in their own area, excellent. I found the hot food to be a bit on the cool side, and probably too much cooked at the one time. A small complaint. All in all a lovely visit and we will call again.

We stayed at the hotel as we were left without power after the storm, right from the onset from booking the hotel and throughout our stay I cannot speak highly enough of the consistent excellent customer service and care provided by the management & staff throughout our 3 night stay. Despite them being incredibly busy with an unexpected increase of hotel guests all staff encountered across reception , leisure , accommodation , restaurant , bar & lounge areas were so helpful , friendly, professional and efficient . As a family of six we were provided with interconnecting bedrooms and the standard of housekeeping was excellent throughout the stay . The quality and selection of food served in the restaurant & bar was very impressive and the excellent service provided by the team is highly commendable . I would like to say a huge thanks to David and all the team at the Connacht for a truly memorable stay, despite it being a challenging time you all certainly went way and beyond to ensure your

I have a mixed review on this hotel. The hotel is in an ideal location, walking distance to Galway City, Ideal location if you’re taking in a rugby match at the sports ground. The hotel room was extremely clean and comfortable, had a great night sleep, that is the positive, the negative is the food I experienced. We had dinner booked but it took waitress a few minutes to find our reservation and when she did sat us down in a nice area handed us the menu and that was the last we saw of her, didn’t ask if we wanted drinks, it was coming near the 20minute mark and as we stood up to leave a different waitress came over to take our order. We mentioned we were about to leave but she took our order and we stayed for dinner. There was other parties in the restaurant but it was not stressful busy, we saw the original waitress chatting her work colleagues. I ordered the chicken Caesar salad and unfortunately it was drowned in dressing, I really didn’t want to complain again so I did the best I could ,ate , paid and left.
I have a “ritual” where every hotel I stay in I order room service breakfast, I love been served it’s not a routine in my life so when I go away I love the treat,. I understand that if I go to breakfast bar in the morning it’s an all you can eat, but as I mentioned I love the treat and I’ve no problem paying the 7.50 or whatever for room service. The menu its self for room service breakfast was minimal, please increase it, we pay twice for the privilege one for B&B and then room service fee. I looked for porridge and I go 4 spoonful the man who delivered the room service was abrupt.
My husbands breakfast was warm and nice, he had a full Irish. Increase the variety on the menu.
Would I recommend the hotel? I would , but, check out the restaurant prior to eating and I’d advise to order double for breakfast especially if you like a hearty meal.

Dear Elaine, Thank you so much for letting us know about your experiences regarding your recent stay at The Connacht Hotel, it is much appreciated and helps us here to review our operations and our performance. Thank you also for the comprehensive review as it really does provide us with a lot of detail so we can review this properly with our Team. I hear you loud and clear on the issue of poor customer service at dinner and no excuse for it really, there may be some tolerance if very busy and we can be very busy most of time but when it is quieter then this is an issue that I will personally look into and I can look back exactly on the evening and review this with our Supervisor and Staff as there will not have been a large staffing on the evening. I am really sorry for real shortcomings here. I ma disappointed to hear your views on Room Service Breakfast and we have no reason to skimp on the volume of food and we are well used to providing proper Irish portions. I can also look back on who served the breakfast to you. Overall Elaine I sincerely apologise for the shortcomings but I promise you that in the main we have many fantastic Staff working with us and it is something that we are very proud of so I am personally very sorry we let you down during your stay with us. We look forward, at some point hopefully, to welcoming you back to The Connacht Hotel and if you do you can hold me to a drink and a FINE Irish Breakfast served to the room with a smile with our compliments. Thanks again Elaine for letting us know about your not so great stay with us. Best regards, David O’Connor, General Manager. (personally replied)

I stayed with my 3 kids for a night in a family room. I agree with the last review here. The room is the size of a double room, but there’s also a single bed and then a cot bed thrown in. It’s like they have double rooms but want to get families into them because they’re worth more to them. Decor etc was fine in our room and a small balcony but no chair/table or anything so not much use for anything. Bathroom small but didn’t spend much time in, also only a half bath I think? I wouldn’t have fit in it for sure. Pool was great and warm except be aware the whole deep end is roped off into lanes, so no deep end for older kids to play in, only shallow end. Room service food was ok, breakfast was ok, I had a big issue with my room as was promised something it didn’t have but was compensated by manager/owner, after negotiation. Overall €330 for one night in a room with barely any space and not even a smart tv seems extortionate. We had spent a week in Donegal in a 4 bed holiday home for €1000. I don’t know how anyone could possible afford to holiday in a hotel in Ireland, and yet there was so little availability. Also I know that other very family hotels in Ireland have larger rooms with bunks and way more amenities for the same price. I don’t know, I wouldn’t be rushing back but I think I feel the same about any hotel now because of the expense. But I did appreciate how good the staff were and how well my issue was resolved. So thank you for that.

Dear Jane, Thank you for your scores regarding your recent stay with us at The Connacht Hotel. It is very much appreciated by us all here as it provides us with an opportunity to see how we are doing whether it be good or not so good. It is also appreciated that you went to the effort to provide such detail as we always take all criticisms in the best possible way and always look to see where we can do better or deal with issues that are clearly obvious from a guest's stay. We hear you your room and we have been refurbishing all of the hotel with gusto in the last 4 years and we are getting through major refurbishment with over 80 bedrooms totally refurbished since last October and starting back on our rooms this October and the rooms are really looking superb. I hear you on the pool issue and I will personally follow up on this as there should be additional swimming areas set aside. For sure Jane Ireland as a whole is getting more expensive with costs increasing across the board but we do have very good offers available throughout other times of the year and sometimes even better if booked a bit in advance. If you are back in the Galway area in the future, do get in touch with me on doconnor@chgl.ie and I will look at the available rooms we have and I will apply a discount with some treats in the room and a drink for tow on us. Thanks again Jane for letting us know and hopefully, we will see you back with us at The Connacht Hotel sometime in the near future. Best regards, David O’Connor, General Manager. Booked for a family night away as treat for kids. Room wasn’t ready until 4.10pm despite us requesting an early check in so we at least expected to be able to check in on time (3.30pm). Receptionist was rude when I told her I was annoyed to be kept waiting. The packs I ordered for the kids (40e) were not in the room so had to ring asking for them to be brought up so that took another 30 mins. Packs are a waste of money as you get colouring books but no colours and a hat that was too big for me let alone a small child and a tshirt. The restaurant and staff were lovely and food was very nice. However breakfast the next morning was not nice and waste of money as none of us ate it. (Not included in room rate) Check out is 11.30 and from 10.20 they were knocking on our door checking if we had left while we were trying to shower and pack which was infuriating due to our check in experience. Pool is basic and not the cleanest. We were made pay for swim hats but when we went in loads not wearing them which again was annoying as no consistency. Upon check out we handed over key cards and they said thank you and we assumed the card used for booking as non refundable rate booked would be charged. Then they rang us a few hours later to say we forgot to pay. They sent me a link to pay which I paid immediately but I felt it was a poor look for the hotel. The hotel looks nice and the bar and restaurant is lovely but service is poor for the rest of the hotel and I wouldn’t stay there for my next trip to Galway tbh. 300 for one night for a family room so it def wasn’t worth that. All minor things which we felt would fall on deaf ears if we complained but enough for us never to stay at hotel again and recommend others give it a wide birth unless no other options available.

Dear Debbie, Thank you for your scores regarding your recent stay with us at The Connacht Hotel, it is very much appreciated by us all here as it provides us with an opportunity to see how we are doing whether it be good or not so good. I can see clearly Debbie that many things did not work out for you and areas we definitely let you down and I can see a number of items can start to take the sheen off things so I am very sorry. We are grateful that you went to the effort you did in letting us know and I promise you that I will look at all of the issues noted and in particular the experience at Reception. I am sorry breakfast was not up to standard for you and whilst it is a busy restaurant in the morning we do not have many issues on the quality of the food so I will certainly be looking back on this, too. We are also thankful for the very nice comments you left us and we hope that you might try us out again some time and if you do I will handle your entire booking for you and I will not be found wanting in making some amends and that's a promise. We have stayed in The Connaught Hotel on numerous occasions with our children from a very early age and we always enjoyed our stay here. The convenience of the parking it's location and the entertainment in the bar but unfortunately we will not be returning after our 2022 stay. When you pay over €600 for a 2 night stay you at least expect a hot shower (we complained it was fixed and to prove the problem was resolved the maintenance person left the debris and packaging in the bathroom for us as a souvenir) and a clean room our room was never vacuumed after the previous guest and the mirrors haven't been cleaned since they were attached to the wall, Also bed linen for the pull out bed would be welcome after requesting it twice it never arrived. Food was very tasty for both breakfast and dinner, bar area is lovely but the bar staff need to remember that cleaning tables is part of service. Unfortunately we will not be returning we work hard for our money and we like to enjoy bang for our buck.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience at the Connacht Hotel. Yes, you are entitled to expect hot water and no we shouldn't leave debris behind and whilst this was not intended it should not have happened. The cleaning of tables was an issue too and shouldn't be the case. Our Hotel Manager has asked that you might consider ringing and asking for him to discuss your complaint further as he/we do not like losing regular customers and we would like to see if we can make some amends. Thank you.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my husband and 2 sons.We arrived on Friday 2nd July for our 2 night stay and went straight to the pool. We really enjoyed our swim, but from the moment we left the pool a lifeguard was in the changing rooms waiting to pounce on the cleaning. I had my 12 month old son with me and didn’t take my time getting myself and himself showered and dressed - we were actually out of the changing room 15 mins later. I totally understand the importance of new cleaning policies in the pool and changing room areas for the time constraints relating to these, however I didn’t appreciate having a lifeguard literally standing behind me waiting to clean the area I was changing in!
We then checked in and went to our room - 1087. To say we were underwhelmed is an understatement!! The decor was outdated, the tv kept freezing, only 2 lights were in working order in the room and the socket beside the tv was away from the wall. There were no toiletries in the room, which isn’t a big deal, so I asked housekeeping if they would have a flannel that I could wash my sons hands and face with, but they said there were none!!! Unfortunately, the soap dispenser in the room is situated too high for kids to reach and in a time when hand washing for kids is so important I found this very frustrating. There was an adjoining door in our room which meant it was extremely noisy. Obviously not ideal when your kids are asleep by 8.30 and your neighbours come in shouting, laughing and turn the tv up loud after 10pm.
We had dinner booked in the bar both evenings, however on the second evening when we arrived we were told that we would have to leave our table in 90 minutes as it was booked for 8.15. On booking our meals this was not stated anywhere and I found this very disappointing. Time constraints made us decide not to have starters as we would be rushing to feed our son in between our own meals. After a year where we’ve been in lockdown and never having the opportunity to eat out, we were really looking forward to having a lovely relaxing meal together, but instead we had to keep an eye on the time and rush our dinner.
Overall, we had a very disappointing experience and I certainly would not be encouraging my friends or family to stay in this hotel. Our hotel break was not cheap by any means and we most certainly did not get value for money.

So after hearing great reviews for this hotel I booked a family room for myself, my husband and 2 children aged 8 & 9. I give honest reviews as I think people deserve them as the prices of hotels are ridiculous. So let’s start at the beginning. Firstly we were waiting ages at check in. Only 2 staff working at the desk even though it was check in time. We got our room which was very small, a single, a double and a camp bed which was broken and we had to get a replacement. I had enquired about upgrading but it was at a cost of €200 for the 2 nights and as the 2 night break had already cost €500 we didn’t see the point. They said they had no rooms available but every room we seen walking around was being cleaned and was empty.
The bar was busy but we got a seat and the table was filthy, we asked someone to clean it but they never did. We booked into the restaurant online for the dinner package but they never received our request until the following day and after our first experience we weren’t going to eat there again. No issue with the dinner but the waiting staff were so rude, one girl in particular basically through the cutlery at the table and walked off. I have her name but I won’t mention it on here. The gentleman at the desk for booking meals was the only person polite in the dining area.
Breakfast wasn’t great, it was handed to you at the buffet and the plates are small, so everything was falling off it. It wasn’t a nice breakfast and we got the same wobbly table 2 days in a row.
The pool was packed and not much space for the kids unless they were lane swimming which they weren’t. I’m not sure what chemicals are being used but our skin was destroyed when we got out of the pool. The changing rooms need to be sorted also. To be honest I don’t have any good things to say about the hotel. I know I wouldn’t stay there again and it’s the first hotel the kids just didn’t enjoy! Everyone has their own experience and that’s just ours.

Annah in Reservations was a pleasure to deal with for a large group booking. We had a fantastic stay for a our family gathering. Everybody commented on the high standard of rooms and food, and we were all particularly impressed by how great the team were. The private room for dinner worked out perfectly, and the staff were so accommodating, even when they were having to step over toddlers with toys to serve tables! Hanna and Drew and their colleagues looked after us so well. Please pass on our thanks.

I highly recommend The Connaught Hotel Galway for any occasion. We were greeted by Friendly Reception Staff who had us checked-in in a jiffy. We stayed for a Friday and Saturday night in a Family Room (1067), the room was amazing. Our 15yr old Son LOVED seeing that the room had BunkBeds for him. 😁
We were attending a 70th Birthday in the Avery Room on the Friday night, the finger food was of a very high quality and piping hot. We had Hanna as our Bar-Tender and I can’t speak highly enough about her. She was very Friendly and Professional. She even served me a drink that she recommended because I couldn’t decide what to have, I now am a Pink Gin and Fanta Lemon from now on so thanks Hanna!!
On Saturday morning we had a lovely breakfast before we enjoyed the Swimming Pool, Steam Room etc. We headed to the Bar to enjoy some wonderful Bar Food, I recommend having the BBQ Pizza.
Saturday night after being in the City for some shopping we gladly returned to enjoy the wonderful entertainment in the Bar. Even though it was extremely busy we were still able to avail of a table, we had prompt service from the lovely Bar Staff.
Sunday morning we enjoyed some R n R in the Pool facilities before enjoying a wonderful breakfast, believe me we had all long faces on checking out of this beautiful Hotel. I would also like to add that the Gentleman who checked us out ( I think his name was Edgar, many apologies for not having his correct name) should be cloned and sent to work in ALL Irish Hotels because He’s just an absolute gem. We are already planning our return. If I could give this Hotel and especially the Staff more than 5 Stars I would. Thank You to All for making our stay at The Connaught memorable for all the right reasons.

No unfortunately so I bring my own for drinks or milk for tea.
Vending machines are on every floor and reception will get jug of milk if needed.
But I got handy mini fridge in Argos for either hot or cold.
Just plugged in left on desk and away ya go.
I did leave suggestion on guests review card.
But everything else was perfect.
I didn’t stay in an apartment it was a hotel room and there was a large tv on wall opp the beds - we were only there for 2 nights so didn’t watch it - sorry but if you ring or email the hotel they ll tell you
