The staff try their very best to be nothing less than family towards you, my whole time I was there I was on a first name basis with each member of staff without trying, they put in the extra effort every step of the way, from breakfast in the morning to the packed multicultural kitchen in the evening they really made all the extra effort to be familial. If you aren’t from Ireland and are wanting to experience Irish hospitality first hand there is no second best, from Kenny, to Donna, Sasha and so many others they will make your stay beyond memorable, absolute legends in their own sense, 14/10 would stay again 🎉

Hostel located almost in the center of the Galway. 10-15 min walk from the Spanish arch and main pub's Street. Very comfortable, clean with good equipped kitchen open for all. Hostel served a breakfast for free that weekend as a suprise. Very nice and helpful staff. Well furnished in the open and dine space. They have wi-fi. If you are lucky you will find a parki g place on a public parking in front of it. If not, you can park on the adjacent streets. highly recommend.

A group of us, in Galway for a stag party, stayed in Woodquay, some for 1 night and others for 2. It is ideally situated near the centre of activity in the city. The hostel itself was neat, compact, clean, and well maintained. The bunk beds were fine, perhaps a little on the short side if you're very tall. I'm 5'9" so there was no issue. For Breakfast, there is a kitchen area where you can make your tea/coffee/ oats etc. There was some lovely brown soda bread, baked within the hostel, which was a pleasant surprise. A seating area off the kitchen was clean. Most importantly, the staff on reception were terrific. I didn't catch the name of the lady who signed us in but she was friendly and welcoming. While booking out, the receptionist Kenny was brilliant. I was waiting in reception after booking out for some of the others in my group to get themselves organised. I had the opportunity to see Kenny interact with other guests as they booked in, or booked out, or had various queries, or requests. He was just brilliant. Friendly, approachable, professional and knowledgeable. Hostels, by their nature, are basic. What elevates one above another is the quality of their service. With staff like the ones we encountered, Woodquay gets my recommendation.

Really enjoyed this little hostel. Location is great. It had been renovated recently and well maintained. The rooms were a good size and the rnsuites madeit very easy. Homemade bread every morning with tea made for a good breakfast. Staff was friendly and available.

The staff is disinterested, seems to be more an immigrant worker halfway house than traveler hostel from people I encountered, the bunks are OK if you're under 5 feet tall, anything over that and you might struggle. Breakfast was stale bread and cofffee/tea with no cream. The bathrooms are small and scarce, the door to our room didn't close fully. And most annoying, you can't enter the hostel with your key, you have to wait and pray that after you ring the bell, they'll let you in (caught out in the rain twice the first day and the second time, the guy had the audacity to give me an attitude after me sitting out there getting soaked for 5 minutes). Honestly one of the worst hostels I've stayed at the world over. Pros: it's pretty inexpensive due to these facts, if you don't care about the above.

Was woken up by staff coming into my room 4 times. I was late checking out but the website does not specify check out time and says checkout is 00:00 so I did not realise I had to be out. Rude awakening, staff turned on lights in my room while I was in bed. Very strange, rude behaviour.

Staff (owner?) Very friendly and informative. Room and beds were clean and comfortable. Plughole in the bathroom appeared to be blocked but no real issue. Missed out on the grab and go breakfast but the fact its there is great for the price. Full kitchen available for guests. Absolutely perfect for travelling on a budget. Note, difficult to find free parking closeby.

Bed sheets were filthy ( sticky stains ) , one tiny window between 5 of us in our room , no warm water and overall just not what they sell it to be. We had to pay the deposit with cash which was slightly annoying . Breakfast was a banana and slice of bread ina bad …

Very nice staff. Next to the city center. Lots of lots of nice people (you should get to know them). The amenities are well maintained. The hostel is cozy. It has a small kitchen but you can make tea for free. There is a little outside patio, as well We really enjoyed our stay.

Normally I don't read reviews as I find them flighty, mood driven, (sometimes selfish), and moreover, can seem to be more of a reflection on the character of the person writing as opposed to the genuine goal of passing on to others information with honesty. With that in mind, however, It would be remiss of me not to talk about my experience at Woodquay Hostel. Taking the advice from a friend (and lets be clear about this - I was a staunch Hotel person before this experience), I booked in and Man was I surprised... 1. Staff are excellent (and I use the present tense as I'll be staying there again in the future!). 2. The place is so bloody clean. From the photos on booking site I thought it looked kind of old, but to be honest that's the main charm about the place and I love the beach vibe in reception. 3. The staff ( and Donna the manager couldn't have been more helpful and when we had the guitars out after 11, well lets just say there was some craic in the main sitting room. 3. The location- right slap bang in the middle of the city! 4. Did I mention the staff? A wonderful experience and my advice is just go and see for yourself! Oh and 5. Breakfast in a bag is a great idea. I was too hungover at the time, but had it on the train on my way home!
