Stayed here with a group of 12 lads, no complaints at all. Clean, modern, spacious rooms and good location. Came back in the early hours of the morning from town and no problems.. I wouldn't recommend bringing younger kids as any noise can be heard in any room.
The situation that causes the bad review is probably very specific, and I would like to think it is not the normal way of proceeding of the guesthouse, but I was a bit disappointed and so I write my experience: We were a group of friends that made a trip to Ireland, we were both single and couple travellers. We rented cars and we booked guesthouses, with both double rooms, single rooms, and twin bed rooms. The problem is that the Rise offered the rooms for all of us, and that was pretty good, because it is not that easy to find a place for almost 20 travellers. When checking-in, the people in the hotel told us that the double rooms were not all equal. Some of them had a king-size bed, plenty of space and an auxiliary bed, and the others were not king-size. Unfortunatelly, my boyfriend and me got the not-king-size bed. What a surprise when we saw that the bed was a single bed, stuck to the wall, absolutely unconfortable! We could not sleep in the whole night, there was no space in the bed for two persons. Why do they offer a single room as a double room, and even charge for it? It was the worst experience we had in Ireland. And it was even worst when we talked with our friends, and they told us that they had not only an enourmous bed, but an auxiliary one! Why didn't we have an extra bed or a coach or whatever! The room was clean, and the decoration and furnitures is classical... I didn't like it neither, but it is secondary.…
For starters the walls are paper thin, which didn't help the fact that we were privileged to a live sex show upstairs at 1:30 this morning. I was more impressed with the guys performance over the actual room we had. (Good job my man) The room wreaks of sweaty feet, the TV is minuscule and the pillows and bed sheets are disgusting.
I would start with the positive but can think of none. Arrived late on a Friday. Room was on the top floor. You could hear every conversation, every breath almost in the building, and there were a lot! Paper thin walls. A tin of cheap coffee and some mugs on the landing, so you heard everyone that came to make bad coffee as well. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable. Discovered too late it was actually broken. The only window in the room was a skylight which made the room seem like a cell. Definitely not a hotel by any stretch of the imagination. Relieved that I didn't book breakfast if the rest is anything to go by. When we asked to see the manager before paying we were threatened with the police instead. Nice!!
We needed a stay for our last night in Ireland & wanted to be close to Shannon. Unfortunately we waited too long & could only get rooms here. We had 4 of the available rooms & none were nice. No access to common room after 10pm or before 8am, paper thin walls meant you heard EVERYTHING, the receptionist was less than helpful, & the amount of hair in the bathroom SINK looked like someone had just brushed a retriever. Thankfully the rest of our stays in Ireland made up for this one.
This was a last minute booking on my way to Galway! Thankfully fate gave me a great place to stay, lovely clean and modern room, great staff and overall a great experience, very affordable with private parking, what more could you want, thanks for a great flying visit
The Bad: - Walls that seem paper thin due to the complete lack of soundproofing (we could hear every word (and burp) of the conversations the two men in the room below us were having)--you can hear noises (voices, floor creaks, etc) from rooms on all sides, from the hallway, the stairs and the floor below. - Terrible Wi-Fi, at least in our room on the top floor - Questionable cleanliness--we had the goop of a bar of soap in out soap dish... but never did have a bar of soap! :| - Tiniest bathroom I have ever experienced! Room in general is quite small. - No temperature controls in your room (other than opening your window)! - If you're on the top floor you've got two flights of stair up which to lug your bags - There doesn't ever seem to be a receptionist, and it was very confusing when we first arrived, during regular check-in hours to a locked front door. We had to wait for an employee to come, presumably from another Guest House in the neighbourhood? The employees that we did meet appeared very disinterested and aloof. The Good: - Decent location (at least with a car, not sure about public transport options) as it was both a very short drive to the central parts of Galway and an easy drive out to the ferry to the Aran Islands. - Though the facilities in the room are very limited, there is a common kitchenette on each floor with a small fridge, sink, kettle, and microwave. Bottom line: The number one requirement for a hotel/inn/B&B/guest house(etc) is that it provide the opportunity for a good night's sleep. With walls these thin, unless you are one of those lucky folks that can sleep through anything, The Rise can not offer you this one basic requirement. Save your money and continue your search!…
Thin walls and floors and a central stairwell means this place is noisy. . .and more so because it draws a younger crowd. But the place is clean and the breakfast, served at The Amber, down the street, is decent quality.
Stayed here for one night during a driving trip through Ireland. Would not do so again. It was difficult to get a hold of reception, even with ringing the main bell. Once we got up to our room, we found that the patio door did not lock - and the patio was shared with two other rooms! Unfortunately, the place was quite noisy at night. There was no breakfast offered. Thankfully we found a place nearby that served wonderful tea and breakfast in the morning.
Our room was in the garage at the back of the property.Glass door into room (external garage door)with not even a curtain to give us privacy. It smelled terrible. Dampness and cold. The air freshener under bed didn't hide smell. Bed very uncomfortable with springs sticking up. Overpriced hole.
