BF and I had the best time at the Dean! The whole hotel is obviously very pretty and vibe-y but also the staff was nice, the shower water pressure was excellent and the onsite food/drink options were great! The view from Sophie’s on the roof is indeed lovely and it was so sweet to see it lit up/decorated for the holidays. Elephant and Castle downstairs was perfect for lunch and drinks etc when we were in a bit more of a hurry and all the servers were great. Front desk gave us excellent local food recs outside the hotel as well. Yes as other reviews mention it is a bit odd to not have a closet/dresser in room but we just used the provided luggage stand and it didn’t bother us much. The only particular thing I would say could improve is random but the robes in the bathroom are tiny and would only fit maybe up to a size L human which isn’t super inclusive feeling.

I was at a business meal with friends and was totally disgusted with the service I received. I am dairy intolerant so usually order the vegan option as it’s guaranteed dairy free. The meal was a set menu and to my surprise there was no vegan option. The first course arrived and the waitress said she could get me soup which I was happy with. I asked for some bread with the soup and her reply was “ no, the bread comes with the next course”. I was shocked as was the lady beside me who said “ did she really say that” ? Next course arrived and again had to say to the waiter this time I needed the vegan option. I was told “ there isn’t one but you can have another bowl of soup”. I ended up sitting with nothing in front of me while everyone else ate that course. Mains arrive and it’s was a risotto with peas in it. It was terrible and tbh inedible. I think possibly an afterthought on the chefs behalf. I returned it and told the waiter my thoughts Desert then and again no vegan option. I was quite annoyed and frustrated at this stage. I did ask the waitress was this the norm ? , no reply and she left. Came back to me and said they can do some sorbet. I declined the offer. I was trying not to let this affect what was a nice evening out with friends and they were also annoyed at how I was treated. Lovey decor and hotel but after my experience which today is the norm to ask for in any 4 star hotel was horrendous, I won’t be back. Ever. And btw none of the staff apologized in any way.

Hi Christopher, Thanks for sharing feedback on your recent stay with us. Sorry to read your experience didn't live up to expectation. I hope our team was made aware of some of the discomforts you had during your stay as we would have been more than happy to enable a better experience. We offer complimentary bottles in each room, so on this occasion they may been missed I do apologise for this. We are a different hotel than most, our staff are dressed smart casual and our floor staff do wear uniforms. As we are a city centre hotel we don't have parking onsite but we do offer a discounted rate at a nearby carpark.

We visited as part of a tour around the Emerald Isle and had the BEST time!! Super funky decor and fully-stocked mini-bar (very tempting....especially after a day out in Galway! All the staff were super friendly and helpful, especially Sam at the front desk who told us all about the hotel and made us all feel so welcomed. We only wish we couldve stayed longer!!

Very expensive B&B rate. Room tiny but ok if you’re into the whole funky thing. Ran out of orange juice for breakfast, which given the price is inexcusable. We had also booked a large event and service was poor… ran out of bread at dinner and when asked for more, we were told it was only for people eating soup! Closed the residents bar early (midnight) Security staff were tactless and created needless animosity.

Thanks for the feedback on your recent stay and experience with us. With regards extra bread not being available for dinner service, we make our bread in-house and may have ran out if it rather than it being specifically for our Soup dish. Our residents bar is open until 12.30pm for non-hotels guests Friday and Saturday and 1.30am for residents of the hotel. I will pass on the feedback to the team and security about your evening with us. If you want to share further details with me please do not hesitate to email me at steven.flanagan@thedean.ie

Very nice hotel. Friendly staff but very expensive for what it was. We had a deluxe room but you had no drawer space for clothes. 4 hangers and two coat rails for all our clothes so you end up living out of your luggage. No casual chairs and whilst the funkiness of having a record player in your room would appeal to some, when it doesn’t work and takes up dressing table space (no mirror) what’s the point? Bathroom could have been cleaned better both before and during our stay. On the plus it’s a funky place and lovely decor. They haven’t been open for long but they have a lot to improve on especially when they charge what they do. Would I recommend? Don’t know if I’m honest

Thanks for the feedback on your recent stay with us. I will pass on the lovely comments to the staff. Apologies you found the room size inadequate. We are a design-led boutique hotel and we try to maximise as much space with amenities that are guests can enjoy. Sorry to hear the record player didn't work in your room. I do hope our front of house were made aware so they could have assisted on this or offered a replacement. However, thank you for the review and will pass the comments onto our management team.

Friendly staff, comfortable and quirky rooms, small but adequate. Really hospitable bar area and nice food. A short walk downhill to the lovely cobbled streets. Very comfortable bed and pillows and a walk in shower which was appreciated .

What a beautiful hotel located so centrally in Galway, décor is fantastic as is the ambiance. My visit was tarnished by the staff at reception on arrival and departure. I seemed to be putting them out by checking in and return my room card. The male with the love of ink tutted and hissed throughout my whole engagement, really disappointing that for €300+ a night stay this is deemed as acceptable behaviour to guests. When we returned back to the hotel @ 1.30 on the Sunday morning the hotel was very noisy with a group of women singing and shouting in a ground floor area, which was unexpected. The other staff in the bar and at breakfast were fantastic and a credit to the hotel.

Thanks for the feedback on your recent stay. Very disappointed to hear about your experience at our front desk. I can assure you our colleague in question didn't mean to come across in a disrespectful way whatsoever, and I sincerely apologise for that. He is a very good-natured and considerate person and I'm truly sorry it tarnished your stay with us. If you would like to reach out to me please do not hesitate to do so at steven@sophies.ie. Our residents bar does stay open until 1am on the weekends and our lobby area caters for bigger groups finishing their drinks. Thank you for the kind words on our Food and Beverage team, I will pass on the kind words.

This new hotel, close to just about everything in Galway was a gem. It has a great coffee shop with pastries, a fantastic roof top bar and restaurant and a kid friendly dining option on the first floor. The staff was so helpful and accommodating. The room we had was very well appointed and very clean.

Stayed for 2 nights and disappointed.. Room average... 2 beds pushed together although the beds were OK.... Bathroom nice... Noise on both nights was terrible and on second night there was wedding in hotel.... When music finished downstairs the guests on corridor took over.... I understood the snack bar in room was complimentary.... We were charged way over the price of the bits we ate.... Glad we weren't tempted by mini bar... Location is best part of Dean hotel... Overpriced too

Very sorry to hear how disappointing your stay with us in July was. As we have multiple dining and bar outlets we try our best to limit the noise levels after 11pm. We have a front office team on 24/7 and when they are made aware they try their very best to stop noise disruption. However, I can only apologise for the discomfort. We do have a price list available in our rooms for our munchies and mini bar items. They can be removed from the room on request. If you are looking to stay or dine with us again please reach out to me at steven@sophies.ie.
