Flannery's hotel can always be relied on for mid range quality, service, and prices. It is my first option for Galway visits. Rooms are functional and well priced. Room 223 is well known to me as I often have stayed there. It is an unpretentious room, comfortable and pleasant. It offers a view onto Galwegians Rugby grounds, which, as a Corinthian is why I keep the curtains closed😅. When booking last time I was told the only room available was a king sized superior room at 200 euro, no breakfast. I accepted this vastly inflated price, and waited with growing expectations to meet my superior room. Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be plain ordinary Room 223, same as it always was, but with a new status and overpriced. Even Room 223 had an air of unease about it. It was like some of the entrants to the Best Dressed Ladies Day at Galway Races, mutton dressed as Mutton, and not able to carry it off. We have all heard of Rip off Ireland, and expect it as part of life, like Galway rain. But it is still a shock to realise that good, solid, reliable, friendly, dependable, Flannery's has joined the ranks of the exploiters.

Checked in at Flannery’s Hotel after 1600. Nice size room with king bed. Only one luggage rack. In-room safe provided. Bathroom with little surface area for toiletries. High-sided tub/shower, not user friendly for older guests. Nice desk with ample work area and outlets for electronics. Coffee maker and supplies provided along with instructions on how to use the coffee maker. Large picture window provided view from our room. Breakfast was available at an extra cost.

Lovely hotel with very friendly staff. Great breakfast selection in the morning and a really chilled out bar with a decent pint of Guinness. I would like to thank John and Arron in particular for going out of their way to look after us. Two amazing lads who really made the stay a lot more comfortable.

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights with 12 other friends, upon arrival the receptionist wasn’t very helpful we were sorting out payment for everyone (12 paying and the stag went free we were covering his cost between us ) the duty manager came on the seen (Daire) then and wasn’t happy he said this was complicating things, It wasn’t rocket science. I was feeling very uncomfortable as Daire was staring at me with anger and frustration. Once everything was sorted we went up to our rooms which were only what I can describe as filthy dust on every surface it was actually disgusting. Then we all had a meal , again we all felt that the staff were very impolite and unhelpful. The food took a very long time to be served we were waiting for ages. When the food arrived it was cold and undercooked and very small portion. We decided not to say anything as we felt frightened and didn’t want the staff to be rude to us in public again. We all left the hotel and went straight down to supermacs for food as each one of us were still starving. On the second day Leinster were playing La Rochelle in the European champions cup . We all went into the bar and sat down in the seating area watching the match , again staff were unfriendly. When we sat down a member of staff said “those seats are reserved you can’t sit there”. We asked them can we not look at the match the place was empty loads of vacant seats. The member of staff then replied you can watch the match but then leave as we are expecting a big crowd in here later on. This is unacceptable as we are paying customers also and should be allowed to sit down and watch a match and drink a pint in peace. Finally it came to check out time which we were all excited for as we couldn’t wait to leave this dreadful excuse of a hotel. We were greeted here by the not so pleasant Duty Manager Daire who straight away said to us none of you are getting your €50 deposits back as you were too loud. We were puzzled, we said how is that and he said 8 of us were running up and down the halls at 2am knocking on doors disturbing others. This is an out and out lie as we were all split up getting taxis to the hotel in groups of 3 and 4 and we went back to our rooms. We asked for cctv footage of this or genuine proof it was us as there were 2 other stags and 1 hen staying in the hotel that night also. They were unable to provide any proof. Then they changed the story and said they think it was only 2 or 3 of us making noise and the not so lovely Daire said thats how it’s going to be none of you are getting a penny back end of …. Its a disgrace of a hotel and not one of the 13 of us have anything good to say about this place STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL, ITS A JOKE OF A PLACE !!!!

Response from Aishling Carey, Guest Services / Front Office at Flannery's Hotel Galway
Responded 16 Jun 2022
Dear Alex, I am sorry you felt that you experienced problems with us during your stay. I would firstly like to explain the issue on check-in. We were provided with a rooming list prior to your arrival with guest names allocated to their appropriate rooms. When paying the security deposit, there were members of your group saying they had swapped rooms. Then I had multiple people looking to pay extra than what was quoted on the room quote. It was not explained to me at any time in the check-in process that you were looking to cover the cost of the stag himself. I called my Front Office Supervisor as she would have the most up to date information regarding rates and rooming lists. I apologised for the delay but I must refute that I was staring at anyone with anger or frustration as I take great pride in my professionalism at all times. With regards to the rooms being dirty, or issues with the meal, these were not passed onto any members of our team in order to rectify any issues you might have had. Thirdly, the tables in the bar that were reserved, were for a large group we had coming in that evening. We allowed you to take a seat for the match and we thought we were very accommodating towards your group in that regard. Upon your return to the hotel on Saturday night, your group were very rude to my Night Porters as the bar was closed, and that you felt the right to have a drink upon your return. It is completely up to their discretion if they serve someone past midnight and they made the decision that your group had enough to drink. This was clearly evident on your return to the rooms at around 2.30am when members of your stag ran halfway up the third-floor corridor knocking on room doors. When another guest opened their door to ask you to keep it down, they were replied to with foul language. It seems from your review that you attempted to fabricate a problem for every facet of your stay with us, due to your unhappiness for losing your deposit. Dara, Duty Manager

We stayed here for 2 nights and from the moment we got here we were greeted so nicely by staff. The place is out of the Galway city center but right in front of Hotel there is a bus to take you directly to city center, The rooms were very clean and nice. We had dinner 2X at the hotel and the food was really good. Great stay in Galway at the Flannery Hotel

We recently stayed for an overnight, from the moment we arrived we were greeted with great professionalism and warm friendly service. The rooms were spotless and beds were so comfortable. We ate in the bar which was fabulous and the breakfast in the morning was so fresh and tasty . Only minutes into town/salthill. I would highly recommend Flanerys hotel .

Found this place as a last resort as all other hotels were booked out. On check-in was asked for payment which was fine. Had dinner and went to my room. Moments later I received a call demanding payment even though I was aksed for my room number by the waiter, i assumed it would be on my bill at checkout. I then went to the bar to pay the bill and asked the waiter why it wasn't simply put on my room. He was very rude and told me that I should have requested pre-qualification at check in. I told him I was never asked, he said, well that your fault, in front of a packed bar. I asked for the Manager who amazingly was even worse, basically blaming me. A real average hotel with average food and the worst staff I have ever encountered. Absolutely avoid the place.

Rooms are beautiful and so welcoming. ‘Frankies Bar & Bistró’ is great, the menu is vast and caters for all. Great variety. Looking forward to our next trip very soon.
