The Victoria Hotel garners mixed reactions, with its prime location in central Galway earning high marks from many travelers, making it a convenient base for exploration. While the atmosphere is often described as lovely and the rooms are notably clean, guests have called out the need for room updates and expressed concerns over size and maintenance. Service experiences vary, with some praising the staff's friendliness but others facing disappointment in responsiveness. In terms of value, the hotel struggles with perceptions of being overpriced for the offerings.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Victoria Hotel and for visiting the Christmas markets you couldn’t get a better location. The hotel was nice and clean although in need of a bit of sprucing up in places such as the toilet roll holder coming off the wall in the bathroom and a seam rip in the bedclothes. The staff are all very mannerly and helpful and even on a day we chose not to have the room serviced, there was a bag of fresh towels and extra toilet paper left outside our door.
The breakfast at the hotel was lovely and had everything you could want and we also visited the hotel restaurant on one night of our trip where we also had a fantastic meal.
The one downside of this hotel is the parking situation. We visited during a weekend near Christmas and the parking facility for the hotel is the QPark for the Eyre Square shopping centre and right beside the Christmas markets. This made it impossible to get a spot. The car park is very tight also ans it was a very stressful experience to find somewhere to park. We also then didn’t want to leave on smaller day trips as didn’t want to have to come back and try park again so that is the one thing that would put me off visiting this hotel again. Otherwise it is a lovely spot and perfect for a trip to Galway city.

Thank you so much for your positive rating! We will share this with the rest of the team to let them know to keep up the amazing work! Our team here, at The Victoria Hotel, is committed to providing high-quality customer service, and we’re thrilled to hear that we made a good impression on you. We're sorry to hear that the parking situation had a negative impact on your stay. Unfortunately, with us beig a city centre hotel, and it being near to Christmas, Galway city centre can get very busy. We are unable to offer on site parking due to our location but we do offer a discounted rate to try and make up for the inconvenience. Again, we apologise for any troubles that casued you and we thank you for your understanding. That said, we hope that doesn't dissuade you from visiting us again soon! - The Victoria Team

We had a nice , comfortable room for two. The beds were great, loved the nice sheets and duvets. The bedside reading lights didn’t work though. The bathroom could use a toilet roll holder beside the toilet.
Breakfast was included with our rate and we really enjoyed the quality of food served.
Overall, staff were friendly and helpful and we found the location was very good.

The location is what made this hotel and also made not at the top of our list. It was only a 3 or 4 minute walk away from the train/bus station in downtown Galway BUT it also felt like we were tucked away in the corner. The hotel itself is somewhat non-descript but it met our needs while in Galway. Truly, it was the staff at the hotel that made it the most enjoyable. They were very helpful and pleasant, especially the breakfast staff. We enjoyed the breakfast very much as well...with many of the traditional Irish breakfast hot choices, along with fruit and pastry choices. The hallway to our room was really tight - I almost felt as though I needed to turn sideways to walk down it. The good news is the room was nice and we enjoyed our two nights there. Also loved the little old chapel we could see from our room. The hotel bar seemed to be quite a popular place but we didn't partake so can't really rate it. The hotel is also just 1/2 block away from Galway Eyre Square which was a nice walk around.

The customer service at this hotel is outstanding. Would definitely stay again. We stayed from Saturday to Monday in an executive room and were able to store our luggage with the front desk when we arrived before check-in time. When we encountered a couple of hiccups with the room, the staff was very quick to address them. They also followed-up to make sure our stay was enjoyable and did everything they could to help us. Like many European hotels, the rooms don’t have a/c, but the fan the hotel provided kept us cool throughout our June visit. My husband especially enjoyed the black-out curtains in the room, which blocked light from the window very well. The hotel itself is clean and well decorated and Queen Street (their restaurant and bar) is beautiful. The setting and the food are Instagram worthy. More importantly, the food was delicious, with generous portions and great cocktails. The only issue was that there were too many delicious cocktails to choose from! The waiters were charming and helpful, which made our trip even more enjoyable. The location of the hotel is also wonderful. We were walking distance from Eyre Square, a shopping center, traditional pubs and shops, the ocean, and historical landmarks. We walked everywhere without any hiccups. Overall, we are so glad we stayed here and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Galway.

Went to Queen st on Sat evening for dinner at 7pm, by 7:30 we hadn’t even received a jug of water which I went and requested from the head waiter. Our drinks arrived at 7:40. Food order was taken just before that. We ordered a couple of starters and main courses. At 8:20 all the food arrived together. Staff seemed annoyed when we told them we didn’t want it all at the same time. Food was ok nothing special! Got the bill to find out they charged for 3 bottles of wine and not the 3 glasses we had. Service was unbelievable poor.
Judging my the reaction of other diners around us, it was not just a one off.

I had read mixed reviews about Victoria Hotel so wasn’t sure about my hotel choice. The poor reviews and photos seem to have been from before the renovations so if you’re looking at traveller photos, look at the date as only the newer photos really apply.

The staff in the hotel are really friendly and we had no issues at all during our stay.

Our room was spotless and the only thing I’d change is the chance to cool it down with air conditioning as it was a little hot at night even with the window open.

The hotel is perfectly located just off Eyre Square. It’s not noisy at night considering how close it is to the square.

We dined 1 of the evenings in the bar and the food was fantastic. It was a nice atmosphere in the bar with all staff adhering to Covid guidelines etc. It was table service only for drinks but the staff were very efficient and we didn’t go without once

Breakfast was a very nice on both mornings. Had to book a time slot but had no issue getting a time we wanted

Just a tip. We priced our stay on Booking .com and phoned up the Victoria to see could they match it. Not only could they offer a better rate, they added breakfast and free parking (our parking bill was €37 for the weekend) so we got a great deal by booking direct. Parking is in Hynes yard about 200m down the road.

Overall I’d definitely recommend Victoria Hotel and I will definitely be returning when we’re in the city again.

We choose to stay at the Victoria Hotel Galway for a central location at a reasonable price and we were very pleased with how great the hotel is as well. Rooms are very modern and nice and the restaurant in the lobby is amazing. Great drinks and food - the baked goat cheese salad and clam chowder are top notch! Very much recommend a stay here.

Comfortable and clean hotel with great beds. The staff was very helpful with directions in the city, storing luggage and taking care of our requests. I recommend the E12 breakfast, it's advertised as full Irish but also includes the entire breakfast buffet.

I don't even know where to start! You get absolutely no value for your money.
-Rooms are small, worn, thinly soundproof, curtains torn, carpet full of stains, no wardrobe, shower curtain, ....
- In the supposedly great bar, you get stuck to the floor, tables are sticky, chairs are stained, lamps are broken (lamp shades are missing)
-Breakfast: if you have the opportunity, you should book without breakfast. I really don't have the words! Self-service, cheap ready-made products, canned fruit,... I could go on like this forever.

We booked this hotel (2 couples) just before the pandemic, so our trip was delayed 2 years. Vouchers given but by the we rebooked the cost increased around 25%. The staff were all very good and provided a friendly and efficient service in general, however the rooms had 6 hangers in an open recess, but no other cupboard, drawer or shelving to put other clothing. The breakfast was average at best, but if you wanted a proper coffee you had to pay extra. On the last day we went down for breakfast to be told the kitchen was being refurbished so only had cold food, with no prior indication or notice given to guests that this would be the case. We were offered vouchers for a sister hotel a short walk away (in the rain) which we used, but this was very similar. The free parking is a maximum of 3 days only and thereafter you have to pay. Having stayed in many cities around Europe and beyond, this was a very disappointing experience and sadly we cannot recommend this hotel.

Hello, and thank you for writing this review, and for booking with us again using your vouchers. We're sorry you were less than pleased with the cost of your room - indeed, in the past two years, prices have increased somewhat in the hotel industry as in everywhere else as well. I have passed your comments about the breakfast onto our food & beverage team. We would like to extend our apologies for the lack of hot breakfast on the last day of your stay due to our new kitchen's refurbishment being finished off, but are happy that you availed of the hot breakfast provided by our sister hotel around the corner. Kindest regards, Kat Kray, Reception Supervisor

Parking is in a multi storey car park which is approx 100 yards from the front door. Patrons receive a discount once you have the hotel stamp your parking ticket. I parked up Friday afternoon and left on Sunday morning and the cost was 12 euros. Parking on the streets/roads is a no go.
