Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our experience at this hostel was quite poor. I want to premise that I and my boyfriend live and work in conflict zones and therefore we are used to very simple conditions.
Nevertheless, the status of the hostel could definitely be acted upon.
Rooms are very very small that you can barely pass between the beds, no plug-in site, rooms and bathrooms very very dirty. A very poor common area and kitchen.
They do not provide a key to close the room and the lockers are very tiny. Our cabin luggage could not fit in it so we could only choose what to leave inside.
Wihout key this means also you always have to buzz the door (there is a curfew at 3 am - but we are not very late night people so it was fine at least).

Overall very disappointing.

Very welcoming family hostel. My sister and I stayed there in a womens dorm. The ammenities were cleaned regularly. The receptionist gave us great recommendations of places to go and activities. It was a close to the Center of town, only 5 to 10mins walk.

The start of our encounter begun when we were queuing to pay and we had an awkward encounter with a German who told us a boring story about wanting to go up the stairs.

We then went down to our rooms which was a 6 bed dorm built for two people at most. The manager came down to tell us about the curfew which we openly shneered at.

The night went down well and some arrived before the curfew and some after. We decided to head down to the common area and shneer some of the folk staying there. One lad preferred REM to Bon Jovi, another lad from Switzerland mistakenly thought they made good wine. There was another German lad playing the bongo drums who was very strange. Nevertheless they were all openly shneered at and outsung. Overall an enjoyable session was had by the lads.

We left the next morning without any hassle or interaction. Bit of a hole but some craic was had.

We actually didn’t stay here, but when another hostel’s laundry machine ruined our clothes and plans for the day, the owner of the Salmon Weir let us use the machines and hangout in the common area while we waited. He was so very friendly and everyone there was incredibly fun. We would definitely stay here if we would’ve known ahead of time.

Words can't describe how bad this place is. Blood on the sheets and they didn't clean the room at all from whoever was there before us. The 'double bed' was the size of a cot. The curtain rail fell on top of me when I first lay on the bed. The dirt and grime everywhere is a sight to behold. They mustn't have cleaners at all. 120 quid for the room for the night! Jesus, at least change the sheets an odd time! A rat would be offended if you booked them into this dump

Worst Hostel in my life. Dirty, expensive and small rooms. Really to be avoided.
It seems like a place left to itself, with no one to take care of it and clean it. Bad experience! Surely for the same price you can find better accommodation in the pretty city of Galway

First off, I was glad to find this place, I was just walking past it !
Friendly bossman (Justin) – lovely guy, told me good places to go in town !
He gave me a bed in a 4-bed room, I had just one fellow guest, a really nice lad from Croatia.
Cost 35 Euros per night.
The bedroom was clean and the bedding was fresh
The bathroom was small but clean and the shower worked OK.
I did not use the common kitchen.
The lounge was friendly and so were the other guests, a really nice atmosphere (cool people!).
I am new to hostel life, but this experience did not phase me in the least, in fact it was rewarding!
I stayed two nights. There was a guy seemed to be on permanent leaning watch, which was nice (he was also a real musicologist which was nice for me!).
Thumbs up, the Salmon Weir left my brain free to enjoy Galway !

We stayed here in a double room for 120eur that didn't even have a bathroom. Double bed had to be climbed into from the bottom the room was so small. Bathroom filthy. Staff nice but awful, awful neglected spot.

This place will make you feel good and not only because is beautiful but in a inner sense of the word good. You will feel embraced in a great and warm family composed by the best people, irish and not, you can meet in your trip or holiday. And you will miss it a lot when you will go away.

What the Salmon Weir lacks in luxury, it makes up for in community. Everyone who stays at the Salmon Weir, whether for a night or 6 months, is welcomed into the communal atmosphere through group dinners, guitar sing-alongs, and frequent trips the pub. Close bonds and life-long friendships are formed in the Weir common area. This is not your run-of-the-mill hostel!
