The Ardilaun Hotel garners applause for its cleanliness and tranquil atmosphere, with many guests appreciating the well-maintained grounds and relaxing gardens. While the rooms are often described as spacious, some visitors voice concerns over their outdated style and noise levels. The hotel's location is favored for its beach proximity and quiet setting, though not all find it convenient for walking. Staff receive accolades for their helpfulness, but there are occasional remarks about slow service. We went to this hotel because it allowed dogs, and although it is on the outskirts, it looked very good for its facilities: gardens, heated pool, gym, …

The room they gave us, paying a supplement for the dog, was a very large room that overlooked the garden, so we could directly access it to walk the dog. In general the room is very good, with very comfortable beds, although it is noticeable that the furniture has seen better days.
The pool is also very good, with three swimming lanes, a jacuzzi area, sauna,... where you only have to pay if you are not wearing a hat.

I don't give it 5 stars because the breakfasts, being correct, are the worst we have had in all of Ireland: you had to beg for the toast to be served, I asked for an option from the menu and it took me more than 15m, another day I found a piece of plastic in food,… They have a lot of room for improvement.

Our second day at this hotel and yet again it was excellent. It was very busy as it was New Year’s Eve and we had a very short wait check-in but once we did our rooms available straight away even though it was just before 4 pm. The room was modern with a large bath and excellent shower and the bed was really comfortable. We had great views of the gardens which we had a quick walk around in the evening. We did look at going to the pool but it was very busy, so we decided against it as we wanted to get into Galway. We did use the bar to have a couple of drinks before we went out which was great. The breakfast was excellent. We were down there early before 8 am as we had an early start for the day ahead so it wasn’t too busy. It was a buffet style breakfast but you could order an omelette to be made fresh And there was more than enough choice for anybody to be able to eat there. We would definitely stay again.
We got a taxi into Galway and back and it cost €12 each way even on New Year’s Eve the hotel were able to order the taxi and then we were able to just pick one up in town to come back.

Dear RMc C, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your fantastic review! We’re thrilled to hear that your second stay with us was as excellent as the first, especially during the excitement of New Year’s Eve. We’re glad you found your check-in process efficient and that your room met your expectations with its modern amenities, comfortable bed, and beautiful garden views. It’s great to know you enjoyed relaxing at the bar and appreciated the variety and quality of our breakfast offerings. While the pool was understandably busy during your stay, we hope you’ll have the chance to enjoy it on your next visit. Thank you for highlighting our convenient taxi service, which we’re delighted to hear worked well for your trip into Galway. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon for another excellent stay. Le gach dea-ghuí, The Ardilaun Hotel

Overall the hotel was fine for us.

The public areas: The grounds were charming and meticulously maintained with flowers and a foot path It had various cozy sitting rooms with fireplaces. There was a bar. There were reviews here concerning the property being “dated,” but the old look added to the character for us.

The room: The room itself was spacious, with attractive wooden furniture and good storage space. The TV was rather small. We appreciated the heavy blackout curtains. There were typical amenities, such as a tea pot and a safe. There was no refrigerator.

The amenities: The facility had a pool and hot tub. The hot tub wasn’t really more than lukewarm. The gym had much of what gym goers like.

Complaint: Breakfast should include fresh fruit, apples, oranges, etc., not the canned variety that was served at the buffet. I am on a sugar restricted diet, and all of the fruit appeared to be from a can with syrup. When I asked for a banana from one person, he told me that what was at the buffet was all we were allowed to have. I asked another person and she came and told me that they didn’t have any more bananas. I don’t know why fresh fruit could not have been put out for guests!

I sorry that I could not give this hotel a better score, I was very annoyed that a member of our group who sat beside me at breakfast was given a banana, but I could not get one. I like perfect customer service and I didn’t get it. We would have liked having a refrigerator and a hot tub that was actually hot.

We had a family suite for 4 adults and 2 children. It was located at the furthest possible point from an elevator, about a 2 minute walk to the front of the hotel. Also it only had 1.5 baths, so getting ready to go out each day meant getting up EXTRA early to allow everyone a shower. WI-FI was non-existent in the room, probably due to the location being so far from active internet routers. Overall, I was disappointed considering what we paid for the suite (around €350/night).

Booked two rooms for three adults for a three day break.
I picked this hotel largely on it being graded four star and it’s location.
I was very disappointed when we arrived.
Apart from the reception area the restaurant and bar the rest of the hotel seems to be a maze of twisty narrow and dimly lit corridors. The carpets were well worn and paintwork scuffed. Our rooms and en-suites were small and also quite dim. The room had a lot of wear and tear, one of the dressing table legs was broken and the wood was split, the plastic on the pvc windows was coming away, there were six cracked tiles in the bathroom. The shower grout was filthy. The shower curtain rail was hanging from a light chain screwed into the ceiling with a singe chipboard screw, this was coming loose and looked a notch job. You could say I’m being picky, but I don’t think I am. This is ranked as a four star hotel and I paid 4 star prices so we felt very let down.
I raised these issues on checkout and 1 meal and room service was discounted from the bill, we still paid full price for the accommodation. I think my expectations were set based on other four star hotels I’ve stayed at and this fell terribly short. By and large the staff were quite pleasant apart from one lady at the buffet who when I asked for brown sauce while standing right beside the brown sauce sign told me to go an ask a waitress 🤷‍♂️ .
Anyway, it’s a shame I’m writing this review as I don’t wish to beat up any establishment, but I think it might be wise to set your expectations if you have stayed in other 4 star Irish hotels (which I believe are generally significantly better)

This is billed as a four starhotel and is more like a two star hotel. The hotel is dated, old and showing its wear. The staff is friendly but the food and cleaniness is not up to standard
- some of the food we had at breakfast was off
- public toilets not clean
- public areas not kept up to standard
Overall i will never return based on the price i paid.

We were there for a wedding and yes we had a discount on the room price but my comments below still seem relevant given this is a 4* and well respected hotel.

1. The room had a double bed and a single bed but only one chest of drawers/bedside cabinet. For a hotel of this stature to force one person to have nothing to put water/glasses/phone/book etc on at night is unacceptable. The fact is if the single bed was pushed flush to the wall, another unit could have been fitted in on the window side of the double bed. Would not stay there again unless this was guaranteed.
2. No fridge, again poor for even the cheapest room in a 4* hotel and not acceptable. Again, would not stay there again unless this was guaranteed.
3. No toilet brush.
4. Breakfast - no menu/guidance on arrival in restaurant -nobody asked us whether we wanted tea/coffee on first morning-sausage of poor quality for 4* hotel breakfast - scrambled egg looked unappetising.

On the bright side, apart from that one instance at breakfast day 1, all staff were uniformly excellent. We wanted to like our experience more.

Dear Jonathan, Thank you for sharing your feedback following your recent stay with us. We greatly appreciate your candid comments and sincerely apologize for the aspects of your stay that fell short of expectations. I want to assure you that mini fridges are available upon request, and I apologize if this was not communicated to you during your visit. We're sorry to hear about the inconvenience with the bedside arrangements, and we take your comments seriously as we continuously strive to enhance guest comfort. Your feedback regarding the room setup will be reviewed with our team. Regarding breakfast, I apologize for the lack of direction you experienced, and for the quality of certain items not meeting your expectations. We would like to note that eggs can be freshly prepared to order from the kitchen if scrambled eggs are not to your liking, and we are sorry this was not made clearer. On a positive note, we're glad that you found our staff to be excellent throughout your stay, apart from that one breakfast instance. We truly hope you’ll consider giving us another chance in the future, as we would love to provide you with an improved experience. Le gach dea ghuí, The Ardilaun Hotel.

If you're looking for a traditional, family-friendly hotel that warmly welcomes pets, this place is a fantastic choice. The beautifully maintained grounds create a charming and inviting atmosphere right from the start.

Our garden room boasted a lovely outlook and was both spacious and exceptionally clean. The room was well-equipped with a generous tea and coffee tray and plenty of extra towels, making our stay comfortable and convenient.

The staff here are super friendly and welcoming, contributing greatly to the overall pleasant experience. The self-service breakfast offered a variety of options to start the day off right.

Dinner in the Bistro was very pleasant, with a good menu that is sensibly priced. The portions were enormous, providing excellent value for money.

There’s plenty of car parking available, which is a definite plus, especially for families and those traveling with pets.

Overall, this hotel offers a wonderful blend of traditional charm and modern comfort, making it a great choice for a family getaway or a stay with your furry friends.

Nearly gave this 1 stars but raised to two for pleasant staff, that's about the only saving grace of this hotel. Stayed for 1 night with afternoon tea. Afternoon tea is usually served with a menu advising the different selections, this was not the case here. It clearly was not freshly prepared, sandwiches were wet, soggy, not sure what happened scones with cream/jam/butter like their online picture seems to suggest, I think we got mini style scone but could be completely wrong, certainly couldn't tell by taste. There might have been a chicken/turkey sandwich, my mum ate hers but didn't no what it was, mine was inedible. The salmon seemed to be served on mini brown scones, which were very hard. The Christmas pudding (again we think that's what it was but unsure) was stuck to the plate so we didn't try. The mince pies were tasty and mini meringues ok.

Room 314 dated with numerous maintenance issues. Cable for kettle too short, when boiling its at a dangerous angle. Curtains badly stained (disgusting actually). Window handle broken so unable to block out noise of fan or some sort of refrigeration system that came on and off all night when unable to sleep after woken up by dogs barking in room below me at 1.10am,finally got to sleep around 5.30. Had hoped to go leisure centre before breakfast but was exhausted so had to skip therefore cant review this facility.. Saving grace of our overnight stay was fireworks that evening at salthill promenade & tasty streetfood in lanas. Have had many an afternoon tea, unfortunately this ranks as the worst. Rooms overpriced and extremely dated, need to address many maintenance issues, avoid room 314. An extremely disappointing and exhausting stay (I slept like a log when I got back home so just reviewing now). Would not stay here again.

Pros. :
Ample parking
Tasty breakfast
Lovely girl on checkin and on breakfast service
Free newspaper

We are local to Galway but stayed in the Ardilaun for a few days whilst our power was out after the storm. It was comfortably our most pleasant stay in any hotel. Not the most modern but everything else made up for it. The staff were so kind and helpful - especially the evening receptionist and evening porter on 03/02 and the young foreign lady serving breakfast on 04/02. The bed was comfy, the food was gorgeous and the pool was lovely and warm. They were also very reasonable with our need to potentially extend or shorten our stay at a moments notice based on whether our power returned. The next time I’m in Salthill I will 100% return to the Ardilaun for tea/coffee/lunch/dinner etc. based on how well they treated us when we needed it. Power is back now but I’m actually disappointed to have to leave! Thanks so much, family - rm 235.
