Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

To be honest I was dreading what this hotel was going to be like after reading reviews. OK outside could do with a face-lift but our room was fine ,basic but very clean and lovely clean smell. Yes there is a nightclub underneath but didn't bother us too much as we were out late anyway ,music finished at 2.30 am .Special mention for young blonde lady on reception who was so friendly and nice .Would stay here again no problem.

Everything was absoloutely horrendous!! Filthy rooms and no effort made by staff to try and clean. Moldy bathrooms, thick layers of dust everywhere and the carpet old and extremely filthy. Housekeeping never changed the linens nor left fresh towels. Noise from bar downstairs and the street made it impossible to sleep. We were a group of 11 and all our rooms were terrible, each more so than the next. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL AT ALL COST!!

Gate Hotel was extremely run down, and looked nothing like the photographs as advertised on Booking.com. The hotel itself had the most repulsive smell of stale smoke and damp carpet. Our room looked out on to a roof covered in cigarette butts, and the curtain was half hanging off. Chewing gum ground in on the carpet, blood stained tissues in the bathroom bin. The icing on the cake, however - was the unbearable heat throughout the night with absolutely no air con and no facilities to get bottled water. The shower was a mere drip and was freezing cold - which weirdly worked out quite nicely as the room was hotter than hell. Couldn’t wash the shampoo out of my hair because the shower was so pathetic. We swiftly checked out around 9.30am after a sleepless noisy night and the lady on reception was less than friendly or interested that we were even there. It wasn’t worth 75€, never mind the 260€ we paid. Even after paying, we strongly considered losing our money and paying for a different hotel - given the circumstances of Garth Brooks being in town, this was a very limited option. We do not recommend and will certainly never be back. Also didn’t get our Q park voucher/discount as advertised on their website.

As a returning customer to this hotel i was shocked at how badly it has gone downhill. Room was dirty. carpet burns. hole in curtains. Broken shower ,a toilet that wouldn't flush and radiator didnt switch of was like a sauna. Asked 3 times to speak to a manager, who conveniently never seemed to be available. When receptionists was given room number and complaints the reply was yeah sorry we have always alot of complaints about that room . At over €220 per night this was an absolute disgrace also in case you wonder this did not include breakfast and was booked over 3 months in advance. Would not recommend to anyone.

Dont book this hotel by looking at photos as I did as the hotel is not at all like them ...the rooms are dated and tired .there's lamps but overall our room was very dull ...we had one large bath towel for four adults on asking for more the housekeeper gave us more (only good point )bathroom was ok but not as picture..the double bedroom the wallpaper was peeling off the walls .the hallway and stairs had threadbare carpet and the stairs where like walking on funhouse stairs as on an angle ..luckily we where only here one might ....I'm of the opinion this place needs remodernising a good clean or condemning

This was such a lovely Hotel in 3years it went from bad to worse. I stayed 3 nights then went away and stayed another 3 nights. The first day I arrive I notice the room was not clean well I was not going to say anything but the next morning I wantef to make coffee I had no spoon. I said to reception and answer was they do not do the rooms every day. This she should not said when I said but my room was not cleaned 3 days the paper on bathroom floor. A pillow case next to bed on floor. Then I returned for my last 3 days got a different room, the cupboards is so thick of dusk, my spoon wooden one was so filthy dirty for what one pay its ashamed poor management company appointing youngster with no care about the tourist, if this was my hotel under lease to a management company I would immediately cancel the lease as this Hotel will not show profit with current company.

Stayed here with my girlfriend for a few days in Dublin the hotel is very central too all the good bars and restaurants and everything in-between haven’t had too take a taxi/tram once, the staff are very friendly and nice and the room is modern and well kept the only this is the noise from the street but you’d get this anywhere in the city all in all a good experience would definitely come back again!!👌🏻

We recently stayed at this hotel. Firstly the rooms advertised are not what is offered. The outside looks like a derelict building. The front door was locked and you had to be buzzed in each time. The stairs is uneven. When we arrived at our room there was an engineer in our room working!!! The room (double) was tiny. The bathroom door got stuck on the sink, the sink was blocked. The bed was clean but would not recommend this place. We did ring around to see if anything else was available but we couldn't find anywhere. This is the only reason we stayed. Will not be recommending this hotel.

I recently stayed in this hotel (I use this word lightly) and it is probably one of the worst places I have stayed. If I had paid 30 euro for the room, I may of thought oh well, but paying 222 euro for the room for one night it unacceptable. The room was not fully cleaned and when I raised this with the hotel reception, they did not seem to bothered. There was a form of desk in the room which you could not get to due to the bed being in the way. The coat hangers in the room were broken. The kettle still had the last occupants water in it. The shower still had the last occupants used shower gel in it. The bed seemed to be a cheap sprung mattress that came with black hairs on the sheets (not curly ones) The room was above a bar which was open until the early hours as I remember this due to the fun and laughter people were having at 2am. I did not see the bedrooms that the website shows you, so all I can assume is that these are set up rooms.

A scruffy dirty building with graffiti all over the front and I wondered where I had arrived at. Paint chipped stairs and a demand for a €50 deposit to cover damages lead me to believe I'd arrived in some 3rd world hostel. After realising I might not be a room busting rebel rouser the €50 was waived. The room was surprisingly nice although the shower room was small but still comfortable. Well until the nightclub started. The repetitive bass and drum came straight into the room which along with the chatter of the clubbers meant sleep was impossible for me until after 2.30 am when everything shut. I'd paid for 3 nights which was non refundable. I was exhausted when I left. Oh and they don't provide breakfast so you have to go hunting for somewhere. When I asked if there were any quiet rooms I was told, no sorry with the receptionist saying that the noise was the largest complaint.
