Many guests commend the Clayton Hotel Cardiff Lane for its spotless accommodations and tidy common spaces, often mentioning the well-maintained gym and pool area. While the amenities like the pool and gym are a hit, some visitors suggest improvements in soundproofing and modernization. Opinions are split on value; room rates are seen as reasonable, but the cost of food receives mixed reviews. The service garners appreciation for its professionalism and friendliness, though not without a few hiccups during busy times. The hotel's ambiance is warmly described as cozy and welcoming, with a lively bar, although some areas could benefit from a refresh. Rooms are recognized for their cleanliness and space, yet some guests point out the need for updated decor and better maintenance. The hotel's location is celebrated for its convenience to local attractions, notwithstanding a few concerns about the surrounding area's character.

My wife and I had a fantastic 3-day stay at Clayton Hotel Cardiff Lane in August 2024. The location on Sir John Rogerson's Quay was ideal—close to Dublin’s main attractions and offering beautiful views of the River Liffey.

Our room was spacious, clean, and incredibly comfortable. The housekeeping staff did an excellent job maintaining high standards of hygiene, ensuring our room was always fresh and well-stocked.

The hotel staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Their genuine hospitality and professionalism really stood out.

We enjoyed a diverse and fresh breakfast buffet each morning, and the hotel bar provided a cozy spot to unwind in the evenings. The wellness facilities, including the clean and well-maintained pool and gym, were a great bonus.

Overall, the combination of outstanding service, cleanliness, and great amenities made our stay memorable. We’ll definitely be returning!

We stayed at the Clayton Hotel for two nights, on a Sunday and Monday in mid-August. The hotel was buzzing when we arrived at around noon into a very busy reception area but our check-in was handled very promptly and we were delighted to get an early check-in despite our early arrival.
Our room on the 5th floor overlooked the courtyard to the rear of the hotel, it was very spacious with great in-room facilities including tea/coffee making facilities, iron/ironing board and the complimentary water was a nice touch. The bathroom was spotless with a great shower and lots of towels.
The bed was super comfy, perhaps the best I’ve slept in in any hotel. We both enjoyed two great nights rest.
We used the pool on our second day, an unexpected bonus to our stay, a city centre hotel with a pool. Good gym too but we didn’t use it.
Breakfast was very busy but well organised. We were shown to our table and given details about the buffet which provided a great selection of fruit, yoghurt and juices along with a choice of hot food. The bread selection was superb.
We had a light snack from room service on one evening. Initially, I couldn’t locate the menus but a call to reception directed us to a card on our desk with a QR code which detailed all menu choices. Service was friendly and fast and the food was very tasty. A great cup of tea too!
We checked out early on Tuesday morning, again very prompt and hassle free.
We’ll return to this great hotel on our next stay in Dublin. Spotlessly clean public areas and friendly staff. Recommended.

Highly recommend this hotel. From checking in to checking out had no complaints.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The reception and breakfast staff were very helpful and polite. The cleaning staff kept the rooms immaculate and were also friendly.

We did not use the restaurant but did have breakfast. There was a good selection for breakfast and the food was a good quality. The tables were constantly cleaned and the food kept well stocked.

We had a pleasant morning in the health club which was basic but clean.

This hotel is a 15/20 minute steady walk out of the main area of Dublin but it was a pleasant walk into town and taxis were reasonable to get back if needed.

Stayed at the Clayton Hotel Cardiff Lane and found it a bit of a mixed experience. The location is convenient, though the neighborhood feels a bit sketchy within a block or so. Inside, the room felt dated and dusty, with noticeable maintenance issues like a broken lampshade and mildew in the shower. There were also some things that took adjusting to, like no top sheet on the bed and no washcloths, which may just be the norm here.

The bathroom was small, with limited water pressure, and the room could really use more outlets to meet the needs of today’s tech-savvy travelers. Also worth mentioning: no A/C in the room, just a fan, although windows can be opened. The towels were nice and soft, but the safe was oddly hard to access and use.

The hotel’s food and drink options are quite pricey for what they are, and overall, the rooms feel ready for a refresh. Not the worst stay, but there’s room for improvement to match the rates being charged.

We stayed 31st March 2024 for 1 night. We are regular visitors of other clayton hotels however this trip left us very disappointed. We received an email saying check in from 3pm . We arrived at 3.40 to be told the room wasn't ready. The trainee receptionist was really unhelpful. She simply shrugged and said it's not ready. We watched every other group of guests successfully check in before us . I note check in time at reception says 4pm but then why send an email with 3pm stated as check in time. This is very confusing for guests and this later check in impacted our plans for the rest of the day as we were only staying in Dublin for 1 night.

On arriving in the room , again disappointed, lumps of chocolate left on floor from previous guest so room was clearly not hoovered. There was also a wet patch on the carpet and rubbish left in the bathroom bin. The mugs and spoons were grubby and there was no shower gel in the container in the shower. I asked at reception for these in the evening and about an hour later a staff member appeared with 2 toilet rolls , eventually after a lot of running about he managed to come back with shower gel.

The swimming pool was nice but no one supervising so there was children in the jacuzzi and swimming lanes . Also the swim suit dryer was broken and there was no wet kit bags, again very poor for a 4 star hotel.

I was told prior to arrival the Stir restaurant was closed for Easter. So we went to the vertigo bar for dinner. Downstairs was full and there was no one seating customers so we went upstairs. I had to go down eventually to order food as no one came near us and they did then send someone up with menus. Food itself was very basic, tasted like something we could have made quickly in oven at home ourselves. Side salad was literally huge leaves of lettuce, no presentation at all. Again to get the bill had to go downstairs and wait at bar for over 10 mins.

The guests seated next to us were asked by the member of staff if they would like them to check if tables were available in the restaurant as the restaurant had a larger selection.  Up until this point we were under the impression that the restaurant was closed based on the information that had been provided to us. We had already been served the food that we had ordered from the bar so it would not have been possible to go to the restaurant which we would have preferred.

Beds were comfy however was quite noisy with people especially kids screaming running past right up to 11.30pm.

Breakfast was OK however there was no one about to order eggs from .

Really disappointed by this hotel, I won't be back here.

Customer service is appalling
Booked a connecting room which was not accommodated after 3 requests. We are a family of 2 adults and 3 children aged 12, 5 & 2. We were told on arrival that we were put on the 5th and 6th floor and then were moved to all on 6th floor but 6 rooms away on opposite sides of the building. Breakfast was not good at all. On the 2nd evening my oldest was told he was not allowed to be outside with his football incase he, and I quote, “broke the window”; my youngest then wanted to go outside only for some manager type person (who proceeded to radio call for senior management), to lock the door and tell us to remove our infant from the door as it was a fire exit. He then proceeded to close the whole area off for “cleaning” and nearly took a fit when we walked through the exit to the lift as we would have had to carry 2 prams and 3 kids down the stairs to get the ground floor lift back up past the 2nd floor to the 6th floor. We paid well over €1000 euro for this stay over the Easter break and honestly it had been ruined by the staffs lack of communication and management beyond belief. I have never left a review like this in my life but I feel this needs to be addressed. The only nice encounter I have had with staff was the young girl that serviced our rooms, she was so lovely. I have also emailed guest relations on our first evening receive no response. Totally feel like a Karen right now but thought this had to be said!!

Would not stay here again. Staff is not friendly. Heat was blasting in room when I arrived. Temp in room was 85 F. They claim to be so environmentally concerned but waste so much heat. Had to keep window open. No one in Europe uses wash cloths. For a supposed 4 star hotel, there is one bottle of body wash that looks like the same bottle as the handmade. NO shampoo etc. It rained the whole time we were here. Some friends tried going to a pub downtown but could not find one they could get a seat in within a 4 hour wait. We tried the hotel restaurants. The mezzanine restaurant was OK but way overpriced. I ordered potato and leek soup. I don't know what I got but I didn't recognize the flavor and didn't see any potatoes. So the next night we tried the vertigo bar restaurant.....the waitress did not understand any English. It took 2 hours to get fish and chips and a chicken burger at a cost over 50 euros. I asked for more tartar sauce and they did not know what I wanted nor did I get anything. If someone would open a McDonald's or KFC nearby they would be millionaires.

Dear Ambert, Thank you for your review and sharing your feedback with me, we have increased our heating throughout the hotel due to the colder winter months and as per our green commitment we have removed all single use plastics from our rooms and have body wash/ shampoo combo's in all showers. I am sorry to read you had a 4 hour wait in a pub downtown but we cannot control this. I have brought your feedback to our head chief regarding your leek and potato soup and we will look into the feedback on flavor. I sorry to read of the slow service you experienced in Vertigo Bar, I would be grateful if you could contact me directly so I can gather more information on the staff member mentioned. Once again, thank you for your feedback and I look forward to hearing from you. Have stayed here before and will stay again simply due to the location. Most recent visit was as part of a visit to the Bord Gais theatre. It’s literally across the road which is great!
On arrival we had to wait despite both reception desks being available - staff simply ignored us. During checkin the staff member continually answered the phone, again keeping us waiting.
Room was fine but we had booked ‘deluxe’ and couldn’t see how it merited this description. There’s no shampoo or conditioner, just soap/shower gel in wall mounted decanters. We had to ring reception as we didn’t have teabags or mugs in the room and waited 45 minutes (and had to phone again) for them.
Beds were clean but stains were on the bedding.
Lifts got very busy at times and we always had to wait a while for them.
Breakfast was busy. Good amount and variety of food but not the best quality and no cooked breakfast options for vegetarians.
You can order pancakes but not sure how anyone knows this as you aren’t told and there’s no menu.
The price fluctuates widely for this hotel, I assume based on demand. Only worth staying if you get a decent deal!

Having been there twice in the space of nine years, I have to say that while the first stay was very enjoyable, I found that except for a name change (from Maldron to Clayton) nothing really had changed. While this may be good in some respect, especially the bathroom with its shower curtain and bath tub nowadays feels completely outdated. And at the price the rooms come with, a fridge should be standard and not "on request" only. Location is very good for activities in the Docklands and the buses to the airport are near by, but you have to walk about 20 minutes to reach the main attractions - if that is ok for you, then it's no problem.

What I did notice compared to my first stay that while many of the staff were friendly, some others were either very insecure (especially at breakfast) or even on the edge to becoming rude in one case. Cleaning the breakfast table while I was obviously not yet finished and was just away for two minutes to pick up something from the buffet is a no-go. May be because not all of them were native English speakers (but neither am I and I don't expect everyone to be perfect in their language skills). And speaking of breakfast: You could order poached eggs, big plus in my book. But only two choices of jam/marmalade and I was missing a better cold cuts/cheese selection too. The hotel has a great spa area, but again at the room prices, a pair of slippers and a bathrobe could have come with it.

All in all, two times are now enough there and if I go to Dublin again, I'll try another place.

We booked the Clayton for our 2 night mini-moon based on the experience I'd had at the Sligo Clayton on my hen weekend. Big mistake as the two were nothing alike. Sligo spa had an amazing masseuse and a calming and serene area to relax and unwind. Dublin's version could not be described as a "spa and wellness centre" as advertised, rather a few cramped rooms with massage tables (that had rust on the legs of them). I could've given a better massage myself. The pool is not just for hotel guests so over half of it was cordoned off for kid's swimming lessons. You have to hand over your room card in order to be trusted with a padlock for your locker, not exactly 4 star treatment. We had booked dinner at 6.45 on the first night of our stay, over the telephone through reception one week previous - on arrival the restaurant had no record of our booking, so we had to wait over an hour for a table. After all that, the breakfast was lukewarm, the rooms were too hot, (even with the window open), there were no shower caps, shower pressure or conditioner, check in kiosk didn't work and we had to queue long times for the lifts. The mezzanine bar had zero atmosphere and ran out of lemonade before midnight. Despite there being another bar downstairs they could've used to restock, the bar man refused to make that effort. It's beside the Bord Gais but not central to anywhere else and the whole place overall felt shoddy (eg. dirty glass on the fish tank, ice machine not cleaned, dirt in bath mat). I would never stay here again.

As far as I can remember there was a hairdryer in the room. I always take my own so didn't use it but I'm pretty sure there was one in the drawer.
