We were looking for a reasonably priced, comfortable hotel, on the outskirts of Dublin, with free parking, situated in close proximity to public transport links to the city centre. The West County just about ticked all our boxes.

The hotel was considerably cheaper than comparable hotels in the city centre. It is in a reasonably accessible location for those traveling by car from the ferry port or from the rest of Ireland, although I would recommend using a sat nav when approaching for the first time.

The West County has a large free car park at the front and there is a bus stop directly outside the main gate of the hotel. The no. 26 bus runs directly to Merrion Square in the heart of the city. Buses are frequent and the fare is 3.30 Euros each way. Depending on the traffic, it takes around 20 minutes to get into town.

A couple of quick tips. The bus is cash only, with no change given, so you need the correct money. The hotel reception desk are happy to change notes. Be wary on your return. The bus doesn’t run past the hotel, but takes a left turn a couple of hundred yards before the entrance to the hotel. There is a stop just around the corner, but you will need to alert the driver.

The hotel itself is a little old-fashioned, but the rooms are comfortable and of a decent size. Our deal included a full Irish breakfast. This was efficiently served, of good quality and very filling. There did not appear to be any other restaurants within walking distance of the West County, so the more than adequate in-house restaurant may prove useful.

All the staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and friendly. The West County fitted virtually all of our requirements and is to be recommended.

Stayed here recently and have ststed here numerous times during the year. 59euro for bed and breakfast is great value. Rooms are comfortable and I slept well. Check in seamless and very friendly gentleman on reception. He advised me that they were doing an 8 ounce steak and chips for €15.95. I took up his offer and tried it later that evening. Wasnt disappointed, extremely tasty. The breakfast next morning was substantial. I caught the bus into town afterwards. 15 to 20 minutes from central dublin. The hotel is dated and in need of refurbishing but I'll stay again in a few weeks when I'm up.

Having grown up in the area and moved to the Uk on a recent visit back home with some friends we chose this hotel. The staff on arrival were most helpful, in face couldn’t have been more helpful. The bar prices were not what would expect for a hotel ( bonus points) the rooms were very nice and comfortable with no cheap soaps on the bathroom, (small bug bearer) breakfast yum yum.. real tea and coffee. Nothing to much for any of the staff including the bar staff... all in all 10/10...

Stayed for one night at a price of 169 euros for two people without breakfast. Breakfast was 24 euros for two people.
This was a stay during the weekend of the Garth Brooks Concerts. Room was nice, bathroom quite small. Basic and clean and comfortable. Lovely bar downstairs. The building is old, was weird to have a key to unlock the door and a chain inside the door to lock. But that was a feature to that hotel. The breakfast food was nice itself however the issue we experienced was the two breakfast staff. We were seated at a 4 person table by a young girl and waited over 20 minutes to order to where a older man with a mame badge Damien came over and told us we couldn't sit at this table and we shouldn't be there and was abrupt about this. We were eating a pastry each were he came to us and said could we move to another table, were prior I offered if he had another table we would move and he said no it was fine. But once we eventually ordered it was not long till it was with us and the food was nice and hot. We ate and paid 24 euros for the breakfast which was expensive.
I believe the two breakfat staff were stressed due to the amount of people at the door waiting for breakfast and there was no tables because the room was too small for the amount of residents the hotel has which is why we received such a harsh greeting from these workers without even a good morning or a hello just a you should not be sitting there and then the girl.said we have to wait as there to busy when we asked 15 minutes waiting to order.

I would stay here again depending the price of the hotel and hope the staffing for breakfast would improve the stress levels so residents wouldn't get the brunt of the attitude.

Reasonably priced hotel, only 15 min bus journey to city centre. The bus stop is opposite the hotel - make sure you have cash as bus driver don’t take card payments.

Old style lovely hotel with all what you need including hairdryer and iron. Cleaning staff doing their job keeping rooms tidy every day.
Everyone in the hotel very polite and helpful making sure everything is fine.

Breakfast food in the restaurant includes Irish breakfast and some buffet basics like pastries, cereals etc.

I would stay here again but without breakfast. The food was ok but it’s more of a budget food and they were serving instant coffee rather than a proper ground.

Not my first time to stay at this hotel and it won’t be my last.

Hotel is very handy and with a bus stop across the road it’s only 15 minutes into Dublin City.

The hotel itself is spotless, rooms, public areas, restaurant and toilets.
Breakfast each morning was delicious and while we were there for 3 nights we only ate there for one of them and that was delicious too. All staff are so friendly and helpful.

Thank you guys so a wonderful stay!!!

See you soon…!!!

We needed a basic hotel in Dublin as arrived on the ferry at around 7pm and wanted to be on the road by 10am the next day. The room and shower room were exceptionally clean, bed very comfortable and breakfast excellent. The room itself old fashioned with dark red carpets and curtains but functional. We ate in their pub style restaurant on arrival - pizza v good, homemade soup to avoid (like eating wall paste). Overall for the low cost excellent value and a good place to stop on route to the West Coast.

The staff in this hotel are very rude to the point where it's not enjoyable to be there. Both last summer and this summer we had family over from the US and we all had drinks in the bar/lobby area. We were frequently told to stay quiet even though it was only 10pm (not exactly late). One of the servers kept asking us to move out of his way while he walked past us with his tray, even though there was plenty of him to walk around us, he certainly wanted to make his presence known. None of the staff are friendly I think it's clear none of them enjoy their jobs. I certainly wouldn't recommend this hotel as I've never come across such rude staff in any other hotel in Dublin. If management read this, I sincerely hope you look into this further as it's going to drive customers away.

A short walk to Chapelizod village and Phoenix Park it is well outside the city but with the 26 bus stopping outside that is not a problem.

Check in and out was pleasant and quick. Room was fine but double bed was tiny. Bathroom also quite compact but fine with a decent shower.

We had an evening meal in the bar. Some issues with the service. One guy was excellent but when he went on a break the level dropped a bit. Seems to be getting more common but if you have table service then keep an eye on your guests and approach them now and again to see if they need anything rather than standing around havingvthe chats.

Food was good but we ordered wings as a starter and they were brought at the same time as the mains without explanation and we did not request this. Wife had steak sandwich which was well packed and very good. I had buttermilk chicken which was dry and overdone but helped by the burger being well dressed.

Breakfast had a choice of full, mini or veggie cooked breakfast and then a very small buffet offering. The full has more different items than the mini but you get 2 sausages and 2 bacon with the mini and only 1 of each with the full. Was tasty enough but buffet part was really small.

My husband and I stayed at the West County Hotel in Dublin the beginning of August for 2 nights.

We were both pleasantly surprised with this hotel. On checking in, the reception staff were very friendly, helpful and polite and on going to our room, it was lovely. We were also pleased to see there was a good bar at the hotel.

The other really good point is the location. Why I say this is, it is approximately 20 minutes (depending on traffic of course!!) to get into the main area, the centre of Dublin but, although the City is quite a distance away, the bus stop is literally just across the road from the hotel and the buses seem to arrive on a very regular basis, so that was great and then, coming back to the hotel from the city also proved easy.

I would have provided a score of 5, however, the reason I didn’t is the breakfast was lovely apart from the tea and coffee which really surprised me as the Irish are renowned for a good cup of tea!! Being of Irish descent, I love nothing more (apart from a nice glass of wine!!) than a good, strong cup of tea so was very surprised at the incredibly weak tea I received. My husband had coffee which I tasted and unfortunately, that wasn’t great either so, if I may suggest, keep up the good work with the breakfast but ‘please’ change the brand of the tea and coffee.

To sum up…. Would I stay at this hotel again? Absolutely, we both really enjoyed our time at the hotel and as previously mentioned, we were both impressed with the place and the staff.
