I got more then I expected when I booked a "self catering" hotel at the very good price that I paid. There is the main house complete with a very good Thai restaurant and a few rooms upstairs which I believe are smoking rooms. I stayed in the converted carriage house in a studio room complete with a small yet very functional kitchenette. Having that kitchenette in the room saved my very modestly funded US dollar budget, a few mornings I made my own Irish breakfast and when I had a friend over I was able to serve a nice cool bottle of wine with brae and crackers. It was great to have an "apartment in Dublin City."

The room did have an iron, ironing board, fresh towels and all of the bathroom necessities. You will need to furnish your own shampoo. The only thing I was not too happy with was the telephone system, there is a direct dial system in the room that is difficult for people to navigate. When reception is closed after 10PM the call must dial an access number in order to reach the guest room.

In all a great place for the independent traveler!

Latchfords is a nice place to stay, out of the hustle and bustle of central Dublin. But there's a couple of things to be aware of when booking....

If, when you see the words 'one bedroom apartment', you're expecting the bed to be in a separate room to the lounge/kitchen area, this is not the place for you. The kitchenette, lounge, dining table/chairs, and double bed (note - not queen or king) are all in the same room. At least they were in the room we were given. Having said that, they are extraordinarily large rooms! The bathroom is not really a separate room either - rather the bath/shower, vanity and toilet are in a walled off area in your room - in rather a tardis-like arrangement.

Being an old Georgian building, it has very squeaky floors. We knew exactly where the people staying above us were at all times. And, as other reviews have mentioned, Baggot Street can get busy with traffic, and the sound proofing isn't all that good.

Having said all that, it is a genuinely nice place to stay. As I said before, the rooms are huge and well appointed. It's a very pleasant 15 - 20 minute walk into the centre of town, and the parking out the back is an absolute bonus (make sure you pre-book a parking spot, as the car park fills up quickly).

I'm happy to recommend Latchfords to Tripadvisor readers - it's great as long as you know what to expect.

I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights while on a trip to Ireland with my mother. We were pleasantly surprised when upon our arrival we were upgraded to a 2-bedroom apartment (I had reserved a 1-bedroom). The apartment was clean and had a full kitchen, the staff was friendly and helpful. This hotel is good for independent travellers, as it does not have all of the amenities of bigger hotels (like room service or 24hr reception). Also it does not have an elevator, which my mother found a bit difficult, given that our room was on the third floor. The hotel is in a nice neighbourhood, about a 10-minute walk from the main shopping district (Grafton Street) and 15-minute walk to Temple Bar. There are a few pubs and a supermarket close by.

Our flight from London City airport was delayed by 1 hour 45 mins which meant we didn't reach the hotel until just after midnight. Upon arrival we found that the front door was locked and no-one answered as reception was closed! How ridiculous is that? We were not made aware that reception is only open between certain hours and that outside of these hours you have to make special arrangements.

There were no contact tel. numbers available for us to call (other than reception which was closed!) and no-one was answering the door so we had no other alternative but to find another place to stay. By now it was 1am and we were getting desperate. Luckily some people arrived who were staying at the premises and they let us in. However, we were unable to get a key for our room as reception was locked! So we ended up staying the night at the Mespil hotel just down the road, which only had a vacancy due to a last minute cancellation!

I would not recommend staying here despite what other people have said - it is not really a hotel and the facilities are very poor. Basically it is a Georgian townhouse converted into self-catering apartments and is in much need of refurbishment. Don't be fooled by their website either - the quality of the decor is nothing like the pictures! I would rate it as 2 star accommodation and that's probably being generous.

Great little spot in a superb location. Its not the Ritz but if you want value for money and a great location this is for you. Personally I love the old style building and it is just a short walk to Grafton Street, passing some of Dublin's finest pubs en route. An added bonus of free parking!!! Definitely recommend. Two fantastic looking restaurants within a few hundred metres which I sadly didnt get to sample due to time restrictions. Staff fantastic.

We spent 4 nights at Latchfords and it was a mixed experience. The room was simply not clean - the carpet was filthy, the bathroom was completely overlooked and the kitchen items were all dirty. Luckily, the bed was clean and relatively comfortable. Front desk staff are not friendly whatsoever. Noise from the street is easily heard and the rooms do not have air conditioning.

The location of the hotel is good and within walking distance to many Dublin hotspots. Given the opportunity, we would not stay here again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

My friends and I booked and paid for two double rooms through Booking.com. Lovely location, good reviews. Trouble was we got one double room and one loft. Different prices with the loft being cheaper on the website when we booked. Hotel reception said take it up with Booking.com. Booking.com said take it up with the hotel. No joy from either of them. I ended up with a smaller cheaper room but paid for a larger double. Experts at passing the buck. And the icing on the cake was the screaming argument which went on all night in the room next door. Won’t be staying there again any time soon.

I was finding it difficult to find a hotel room in Dublin city centre which was affordable - and then I found Latchfords of Baggot Street.

It was inexpensive - almost half the price which other hotels were charging - so I booked it. To be honest I wasn't expecting much, but I was wrong.

No. 1. it's location was perfect for an evening event I was attending in the city centre, a five minute walk away.
No. 2. The welcome on arrival was far better than I've received in many five star hotels.
No. 3. The room was bright, airy, clean and perfect for a one-night stay in the city (and if you're staying longer, there's a small kitchen, food prep area in the room)
No. 4. The room had an iron and ironing board - something the larger hotels sometimes forget to supply.
No. 5. The bed was really comfortable.
No 6. The bathroom and shower was small but was spotless and had everything I need.
No. 7. I'll be back again, for sure.

All in all, I fully recommend Latchfords.
Thanks for the lovely stay.

Latchfords is in a lovely, quiet neighbourhood with Baggot Road being home to some fantastic pubs and restaurants. It's 5 minutes walk from st Stephens which is perfect for exploring Dublin. The staff were all very friendly. The studio was small but very clean and was well equipped for a comfortable
few days. Definitely recommended as good value in expensive Dublin.

I stayed in a small one bedroom apartment at Latchford's in August 2012. Because I was alone I got a great rate of 350 euros for the week. The apartment was comfortable and in the back of the property so it was very quiet. The kitchen is just a little kitchenette but I was able to make simple meals like omelettes no problem. The neighborhood is great - just down the street are many restaurants, pubs etc. It is not too far of a walk to the Liffey, Grafton Street, Trinity College etc. I never once took a bus (well, except from the airport.)

Latchford's is also to be commended on its wonderful staff. Jody, in the office, is great - I have never had emails to a hotel answered so fast in my life! And the cleaning staff and rest of the front desk crew - wonderful. Mr. Latchford, give these people a raise!

It's about 20-25 minute walk to the Aviva. You get a code for the front door.

The reception was in the same building. In fact on the same floor as the room. Whether they have rooms in other buildings I can't say. Reception was occupied until early evening, and access was via a four number code at the door.
