Detailed Reviews
We wanted a cheap getaway in Dublin and found this. The photos prob show it a few years ago as it is run down and heartbreaking as it coukd be a fantastic house with a bit of love. Even cutting the grass would help. It's located in an amazing area very quiet 10 min walk to rathmines. I was a bit worried when getting the key.. Which you need to go and find the person for ringing the doorbell doesn't seem to get any response another guest let me in.. It is a bit fawlty towers. The guy who gave us the key was helpful but his mate laying out on the sofa didn't give a great impression. Our room was actually surprisingly nice.. Big and the beds and linen are really clean. The bathrooms were clean too just a bit worn. We paid 54 euros for the night which in Dublin is unheard of and for that price it was decinateky recommended. I d prob only stay a max of 2 nights. The hiyse is lovely but in desperate need of updating otherwise is fine.

Good sizes room shared bathroom but never had to wait too long to get in. Breakfast was quite basic but was good enough. It's cheap and cheerful with clean bedding and towels. No TV or tea making facilities in the room. About 45 min walk into town but a good selection of bars and places to eat 10 min walk away. Would use again.

My husband and I had a very nice time in Dublin. The mansion style is simple, yet comfortable. The innkeepers are very friendly and helpful making sure you find your way around town. Our room was on the ground floor with a double bed, a single bed that we used for storing, a TV, and including a small bathroom. Apart from the wardrobe that fell apart a bit (one had to lift the wardrobe door in order to open the top drawer) the furniture was okay. During the six nights we stayed, the towels were changed twice, though the shower was not cleaned and the bed not made. I didn't know if this was included or not when I booked the place. For breakfast there was (good) coffee and tea, toast, joghurt, boiled eggs and ham, cheese and salami each morning. Some variety would have been nice but we went out for Irish breakfast twice anyways ;) If you're looking for a well priced, basic place this is definitely one I'd recommend. We will likely book again if we come back. Take care!

Recently returned from a stay here and I have to say I really liked it. Was dreading it after reading some derogatory reviews on here but quite honestly these seem unfair. We paid 310 euros in total for two single rooms for four nights which included a generous continental breakfast so it was good value.Yes the place is a bit worn around the edges but the property really is a mansion with original features and well tended gardens, the staff are friendly and kind and the towels and bed linen are spotless and changed frequently. The bathrooms are clean and modern and the beds are comfortable, so I think that this place is a good deal.Basically, if you want a luxurious experience this place probably isn't for you but if you just want a base for when you're not out in the city then this place is right for you.

I can't believe where they get the excellent reviews. Somebody is pulling one's leg. I visited on behalf of family coming to Dublin for a week. Unfortunately their visit coincides with the Garth Brooks concert. Little availability anywhere in Dublin with sky high prices. I read the reviews and my skin crawled with thoughts of bed bugs etc. Called in for a tour. Nice enough chap showed me around. There are a few decent rooms but overall impression was very negative. I was offered a substantial discount on the rates previously quoted if I paid in full there and then. Suspicious? Advised family to keep trying or change the dates of their visit. The Victorian villa style building is nice enough in large gardens with off street parking. Well located in one of Dublin's better suburbs with good transport links into city centre. Pity about the condition of the accommodation. Is there no National Agency like Bord Failte checking these places out. Avoid.

Please be advised this place is a scam. It should not be allowed to operate and it shocks me that the authorities have not closed it down. Upon arrival they try to take all of your money up front before you obviously try to leave and there is the mysterious manager on the phone. Their prices are actually close enough to a 4 star hotel. Only 25% cheaper. Photos are totally different to reality. The building should be condemned. I for one will be writing to the relevant authorities to get these cowboys out of business.

I have stayed in this room for seven nights for 498,- EUR. The place is run down, mould in the bathroom, toilets not flushing properly. The place is run down, pictures obviously a fake. The manager repaired the broken light in the room later but did nothing about the mould.
Fridge was smelling badly. They are trying to keep the place sort of clean with "housekeeping" but since this place is so run down, it's a joke.
If you are looking for a good place to stay, this isn't it.

*** We advise not staying here ***
My friend and I booked the Marilyn Mansions for a 3 night stay on a sight seeing trip to Dublin. For the price (it was cheaper than other places) we were under no allusions that it would be more than basic, which was fine with us as realistically we just needed a place to sleep and wash.
This place was picked not only for price but it also looked lovely inside - DO NOT BELIEVE THE PHOTOS YOU SEE ADVERTISED (see our photos)
We were shocked upon arrival when we were asked to pay up front for the 3 nights before we had taken off our jackets and put bags in our room. This maybe normal but we had yet to encounter it in previous hotel stays where normally you pay on check out.
Once paid and in our room, desperate for a wash after the days travelling and activities we were disappointed when the shower didn't work. (freezing cold trickling water coming out) after 45 minutes the hotel staff managed to get some warm water flowing with the promise of getting it fixed the next day.
The night staffed called the manager whist they were trying to fix the shower - we heard him say 'just tell them it's working' even though there was just a dribble coming out.
Not only was there the lack of water problem with the shower, it did not hold properly in the wall fastening therefore dropping off and hitting the shower floor - we assumed this would be fixed also.
We returned the next evening from a days activity (after no shower in the morning) and there was hot water 'hooray' !! Sadly they had not seemed to fix the wall clasp so if the water wasn't at the right gauge (it's hard to find) there was a manual task of holding the shower head while washing.
The next night we noticed water on the threadbare carpet - it spanned just over a square metre. The carpet and wall were mouldy and slimed with the wooden flooring blackened and rotten. It wasn't just wet It was soggy and one of our suitcases had been laying in the patch dampening the clothes. We raised this as clearly there was a leak. One of the night hotel staff came to take a look at the flood and took some pictures to send to the manager for him to take a look. (See pictures)
Later that evening I took a shower. The shower head was fixed to the wall. I bent down to grab the shower gel and before I knew it the shower and pole had detached from the wall crashing on my head and leg (see picture)
There was a large radiator in the room which was great as the old windows let in a lot of cold and wind. However unfortunately the heating was turned off from between midnight to 6am, which meant that when waking up in the morning the room was freezing cold. This wasn't very nice to wake up to each morning as it was approximately zero degrees and had been snowing outside overnight.
It should also be noted that the b&b is a fast paced 45 minute walk to the centre of Dublin.
The room and en suite were generally run down and in need of some TLC; stained curtains and sheets, mouldy tiling in and around shower, tiling incomplete around cistern in bathroom, broken shower fitting, large leak under floor causing wet and stained carpet, and the carpet not even fixed down properly with gripper rods just roughly cut to size and placed on floor.
On the final morning we saw the manager. We showed him our room and explained about the shower problems, leak and rotten carpet and the general run down state of the room, also highlighting that the poor standard of the room was not reflected in the beautiful photos of rooms on the internet. His response was basically 'what do you expect for somewhere so cheap' whilst smirking. We asked what he was going to do to compensate us as we were clearly very unhappy, to which he said 'nothing'.
When we were ready to leave the manager did give us a refund for our breakfast during our stay. In all honesty the breakfast should have been included in the price as it was not great. We asked if we could leave our luggage for the day to which he said was not a problem, but to first open our cases to show him the contents and point out our valuables. Never have we ever experienced somewhere asking to open our cases and point out our valuables when leaving luggage, and this made us feel very uncomfortable. He told us that if we did not do so we could not leave our luggage.
We advise considering carefully before deciding to stay here. Unfortunately our whole experience was not acceptable and disappointing, and tainted our whole trip.

We stayed at the marilyn mansion for a two night layover before our next stop. Now as i have said i never write reviees but this i have to say. We walked into our room paper thin walls then looked at the walls and there is mildew and salt damp all down one wall. It was bubbly and brown. We then smelt the room andnit was musty and wet. Slept all night with the window wide open so we didnt have to smell the stench which was making us cough, didnt matter anyways as i was coughing regardless. The security in the room isnt there which is a big worry as we had our valuables in there. Shared bathroom stank like something died in there and the shower.... i had a better chance of cleaning myself in the sink. We didnt complain to the manager as he advised they were fully booked so its not like we could go into another room. The dust in the room is teerible feels like they have never cleaned it. I had someone elses hair and dirt on my feet. This place should be closed down the rooms are not liveable! And you are wasting your money.
The only positive is the bed is comfy thats about it. I couldnt wait to see the back of this place.

Booked for two nights through bookings.com early August as property looked to be of a reasonably high standard. DON'T BE FOOLED! The place was dirty, unkempt, smelly. Management are a joke - dishonest and unscrupulous. Rest assured I am going to take my complaints further. Booked and paid for a single room for two nights. Arrived to find the property is completely misrepresented online! Both their own website and the pictures they have supplied to bookings.com. On inspecting the room I had booked, and viewing the Shared Bathrooms, I REFUSED to stay at the property. To date management are refusing to refund me the £80.00 paid. Let the photos speak for themselves!
Look at what I thought I was booking...
Look at what I got.....
It will be interesting to see if they ate a legal registered business (no signage on display) and if they pass Health and Safety.
