From our telephonic reservation months before our stay to the porting of our baggage into our departure taxi, our experience with the Mespil Hotel and its staff was outstanding in every aspect.

The hotel is conveniently located in a tree-lined street across from the Grand Canal in Dublin 4, a relatively short walk from St. Stephen’s Green, the historic Trinity University, Georgian architecture, and Grafton Street shopping. Though most of the travelers we met during our weekday stay were traveling on business, the weekend drew many couples and families even during the low season.

Our room was handsome and spacious and the bed was fantastically comfortable. Housekeeping was attentive and pleasant.

We ate most of our meals over 5 days in the hotel, and the food was uniformly delicious, including excellent Vegetarian and Vegan options. The breakfast buffet is extensive and delectable. During the unprecedented Storm Éowyn’s lockdown, the staff kept things running smoothly and we still enjoyed our enforced down time in the hotel.

Special commendation is owed to particular staff who really excelled even in such a wonderful group:

Megan in Reservations and Front Desk

Adrian at the Front Desk, who helped bring our extensive luggage to our room

Jonathan and Milosav (Mili) and Dennis as Front Lock Restaurant and lounge hosts, who were especially welcoming and helpful

Álvaro, Áoife, Bruna, Marianne, and Sofia in the restaurant and lounge, who were outstanding to both of us and really gave extra attention to my husband in his Vegan requests

A nice stay,
Very convenient for the concert we were attending, rooms were beautiful and clean , very comfortable.
Wouldn’t recommend room service, I was getting ready in the room so ordered drinks up to the room while I was doing so , they charged €5 to deliver them upstairs and wouldn’t allow me to charge them to the room. Wasn’t impressed with this, but over all a nice hotel and would stay again

The Mespil is not the flashiest of hotels, but it’s well designed in ways that make it more comfortable than many other hotels in Dublin. There are side tables with outlets on both sides of the bed — a must for anyone traveling with a Cpap. (A surprising number of otherwise nice hotels neglect this simple feature.) The bathrooms are a bit small, but they’re very functional, with ample ledges for toiletries and a shelf for the clean clothes you plan to put on after your shower. Most importantly — to me, anyway — the shower controls are not directly under the shower head, so shorter folks don’t get a face full of frigid or scalding water when they turn on the shower — as happens in so many hotel bathrooms. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable. Rooms also feature comfortable seating, for guests who need a little down time. The Mespil breakfast is what I would call serviceable rather than stunning, but the location is terrific. All in all, I would happily return to the Mespil.

I availed of the Lazy Sunday package which includes breakfast and a late checkout of 2 pm. I had requested a room overlooking the canal and that was what I had, on the 4th floor. The room was clean, spacious, comfortable and nicely kept.

The seating areas of the hotel are also comfortable and the hotel in general is obviously well looked after. Breakfast was fine, all the usual selection of hot and cold food that one would expect.

As described in various reviews, the hotel is well situated with a number of bus routes close by, and within easy walking distance of the main shopping areas of the city. There are also plenty of restaurants, coffee shops and so on, nearby.

I found the staff pleasant and it's always nice to hear 'you're welcome' when you arrive. My question always to myself is, would I return? Yes, I would. I'd recommend the hotel overall.

We recently stayed for 10 days at the Mespil Hotel while visiting Dublin, and our stay was above and beyond our expectations. The hotel is situated in an ideal location in the peaceful D4 area with the center of Dublin not far away, and good public transport links if needed. From the moment we arrived the entire hotel felt very welcoming spotlessly clean and very well decorated and furnished. We were able to check into our room early which was an unexpected bonus, our room was also spotlessly clean and finished to a high standard. It was of a good size and had air conditioning, the bathroom was definitely the best bathroom we have ever had in a hotel with an easy access shower and high quality towels. The beds were extremely comfortable and had very high quality bedding, we were especially impressed with the quality of the pillows in particular again the best we have experienced in a hotel. We slept very well every night of our stay. We took advantage of sitting in The Lounge most evenings, the hotel boasts a good selection of drink’s including some nice cocktails. A good food menu with something for everyone, the food was high quality and cooked well. Every meal we had in the hotel was perfect and consistent, complements to the chef. We also availed of dinner in The Lock Four Restaurant a few evenings which was a real treat, and not to be missed out on. The staff at the Mespil are excellent, I cannot stress enough how caring committed and professional everyone we encountered was. Very friendly and approachable across the board from the reception staff, to the bar and restaurant staff, the housekeeping team, the maintenance team and managers. So helpful and nothing was to much trouble, they always said hello and welcome as we passed through the hotel. Clearly the ethos of this hotel is to make every guest feel important, we definitely did. While we did not get all the names of the staff we received first class service from, to name but a few were Fernando, Rownan, Blaise, Barbra, Mark, Augusto, Isabella and Julia. Julia was always so happy, you just can’t help but be in a good mood after an interaction with her. We had a birthday during our stay and the hotel very kindly left a box of chocolates in the room, with some free drinks that evening which we thought was a very touching gesture. We really enjoyed our stay and believe that The Mespil Hotel has more than earned it’s four stars, we would definitely recommend this hotel. In our experience it is also ahead of the pack from other hotels in the area. We will definitely be staying again, and look forward to it hopefully in the not to distant future.

I was delighted to read that any request was catered to and dealt with efficiently. Our location really is one of our best features, slightly removed from the hustle and bustle of the City Centre you can be assured of a wonderful, restful stay. Furthermore, we are just a short leisurely walk from the Grafton Street Shopping District and many of the major tourist attractions. It seems that you also took full advantage of our beautiful neighbourhood and the excellent public transport options available nearby. I would again like to thank you for your wonderfully kind compliments regarding our staff and bedrooms. From check-in to departure we aim to provide each of our guest's with service that leaves a lasting impression. Based on your review, it seems that this was the case across each staff member you encountered. Very clean, well-appointed, modern rooms! Topnotch service! Very professionally run. Room 318 was smaller than expected so a bit disappointing. Would help if they post room square footage on website. Got knee injury a few days before travelling. Fortunately the hotel had a wheelchair we could borrow so that I was able to accompany the rest of the family for sightseeing & hence didn’t need to remain couped up in our small room . Thanks so much for that !! It was a godsend! The daily breakfast was top notch with a full Irish breakfast, perfectly cooked blood sausage, yogurt smoothies. Made to order: cappuccinos, omelettes, eggs. Decorated with warmth & cheerful modern ambience throughout. Staff was excellent. Megan was so helpful.
It was very kind of Denis to extend a great rate so that our son could move from his twin sister’s place in Ballsbridge (with her new cat he turned out to be allergic to) to our same hotel rather than another less expensive option in the area (he didn’t need a 4* Mespil Hotel) We all loved the spacious, well-appointed room he was assigned next to us (Room 316 view of tree on quiet side street closer to Mespil Rd. We all loved the Irish breakfast options — blood sausage cooked perfectly! Also loved the excellent cappuccinos & omelettes made to order. 20-30min walk to St. Stephen’s Green (like Central Park). So many transit options. Free above ground guest parking behind hotel (subject to availability). Note back side rooms face parking lot but quieter. Call them! They will find the best option for your needs

I spent a long time researching hotel options for our recent visit to Dublin, and am soooo glad I chose the Mespil Hotel. Can’t say enough about it! As mentioned in other reviews, the staff is absolutely exceptional….as good (if not better) than you’d find in a Ritz Carlton (the standard in the U.S.) I hesitate to mention a name…because every single one was wonderful…but Joao at the front desk truly went above and beyond in making our stay a perfect one. But everyone else from the reservations staff to front desk to restaurant to housekeepers was extraordinary.

Yes, the hotel is a bit of a distance from City Center, but the upside is that you are in a quieter, less congested area and the cost is definitely less than a comparable property in that location. You can walk to the Center in 20 minutes or so, or grab a taxi that’s almost always waiting out front.

We were in one of the recently-renovated rooms and it was lovely with the most modern of amenities. The breakfast (that was complimentary with the rate we chose) was top notch and a great way to start the day. Again, the wait staff was great.

It was a plus to have room service available until 10:00 pm. The lounge/bar is also such a nice amenity to have available.

I’d give this hotel 6 stars if I could. Stop your search…this is the one.

Our recent stay in The Mespil was exceptional - we were attending a wedding in the city and the location was just superb- our room 260 was exceptionally large for a city hotel. The cleaning and maintenance standard in all area is exemplary. We ate in the bar on the first night and lovely food - good value for Dublin 4 - our waiter (Abel) was very professional and polite. Breakfast was great with large choice and constantly refreshed by Eddie - a short stroll to grafton street the day after wedding to finish the Xmas shopping made our trip so easy.

From check in to check out, this hotel and it's staff have been truly amazing. From my arrival I was made to feel like one of the family, the executive suite had everything an avid traveller could ask for. Between the king size bed with fluffy pillows to the luxurious bedding and perfect location, I could not recommend this hotel more to any traveller looking to spend a weekend or longer in Dublin.

Even with a 100 percent occupancy, the team manages to cater to every of its guests' needs.

The buffet which I did not manage to capture as I was too busy eating has a wide variety and their a la carte menu has loads of options to suit every taste.

For lunch, I had their Caesar salad with crisp lettuce, and just the right amount of dressing. I had to lick the bowl clean to stop myself ordering another one.

Also their lime, chilli chicken wings were succulent and generously coated in their sauce.

One memorable event that prompted me to want to write this review was this.

There was a party checked in to celebrate a family member's birthday, looked like they had an amazing time, they were walking and talking in the corridor on my floor at around 3 AM, so the following morning I went down to guest relations manager and had a lovely chat, joking about the guests and the party the night before.

After my walk in town I returned to my room to find a personally hand written card and box of Butler's signature chocolates.

The fact that the guest relations manager went to that effort to make sure that my stay was an unforgettable one will be something that I will remember for years to come.

Mespil Hotel has made me a guest for life.

Well done to Megan and the front of house team.

I cannot wait to return for another break.
