It’s cheap, and in a good location - lots of bars and restaurants, and only about a 30 min walk from the Guinness Storehouse. The staff is nice. However, this place is dirty. The bathrooms are so moldy and there were hairs all over our beds. I would rather spend the extra money to get a place in a similar location with less mold and grime.
Great location, but beside that don't recomend, cause it is very dirty and extremely noisy. People shouting, running and slaming doors with no intervention of the staff to quiet them down. The staff was quite nice at the frontdesk.
Bathroom very dirty with layers of mold on showers and surrondind area. The beds are awful you can't sit up in the lower bunks. The only reason it got 2 stars was the location was good and the staff were nice. I would not reccomend staying here for more than 1 night and even then if you're not going to shower or stay in rooms much. Will give credit to a nice-ish lounge. Also from my experince it was a bit of a party hostel
I already posted this review on booking.com and google, but think it is important to share it on every platform. 1st day: · we checked in at 2pm, with a nice staff that explained everything. We got a 10 person-room, non-mixed, on the last floor. · when we arrived in the room, we took a shower, and found the bathroom in this condition: hair in the shower, dirty bathroom floors, mold on the ceiling and a clutched sink. Furthermore, one toilet and bathroom for 10 people is very little, and the fact that the toilets are IN the bathroom makes it kind of hard to actually live all-together. · There was also hair in the clean sheets, which were definitely not mine, since I'm bald, and those were long and black. · during the night, a woman entered our room looking for her bed - mind all the 10 beds were already occupied, and there was no other available in the room - and the clothes she had left in the morning. She was Italian and didn't speak English, but hopefully one of us spoke Italian. Apparently the staff had removed her things, while she still had a reservation. A member of the staff (male, in a 10 women-only bedroom, while we were all sleeping in our underwears) to come back with her in our room 5 consecutive times - mind it was 1 in the morning - obviously lost as what to do with this situation, since all of us, including the woman, had a booking in the room. So, 11 people in a 10 people bedroom. We ended up having only 3 hours of sleep, as we had to wake up at 5 the following day. The employee didn't give us any explanation or apologise. She had a key, which really terrorised us, because if she had a key, it means the reception really has no idea of who is in the hostel, and who sleeps where. 2nd day: · We complained at reception about the condition of the room and what happened the night before. The lady was nice and apologised but basically told us to speak to the manager the day after because he wasn't in, without giving us any information about what happened or any solution. . Our cards also decided to stop working randomly (even though we were careful not to put them next to our phones to try and not demagnitised them), so we had to go to reception and ask for them to change them. 3rd day: · We complained to the manager, who told us it wouldn't happen again and said the bathroom would be clean (after 2 days). About the Italian woman situation, the manager explained that she had booked the room for only a week and apparently didn't know her reservation had ended, so everything belonging to her had been taken out of the room. She then asked the receptionist at night for the key, so that she could get her stuff back, and then tried to stay to sleep (?). So anyways, a really weird and disturbing situation, as they let a person enter our room in the middle of the night without checking her records. · The bathroom was cleaned, and the sink uncloged, which was a good point. 4th day · We were glad to finally leave the hotel, and found out that it was really easy to just keep the key after leaving, since they don't check themselves, which make us believe the woman actually kept her key and tried to stay for one more night without anyone of the staff knowing. Overall the hostel was not clean, the staff was not that helpful, the common room is really small, as is the kitchen, and the security is really lacking. The only good points might be the location (in the middle of the Temple Bar area), the view from the room (although we had all the seaguls in the world crying all night at our window) and the cheap price, but I really don't think it is worth it regarding of the bad aspects. We were really disapointed.…
A group of 5 girls had paid EXTRA for a female only dorm on booking.com. Upon booking we rang to ensure this was correct and Abigail’s hostel confidently told us we would be with only girls. We had checked in and left to enjoy our first day out. But upon arrival back to the dorm late in the evening there was a man in the spare bunk of the dorm. We went to reception for help in which they told us the ‘man is very drunk’ and there was no other suggestions/ no spare bunks anywhere that he could move to. The reception staff gave us two options: 1. To leave and find somewhere new to stay. Or 2. To sleep in the dorm and speak to the manager in the morning. As it was Paddy’s weekend due to availability we could not find any further properties meaning we had to stay in the female only dorm with a man… after speaking to the manager the next morning, again they were not helpful and could not offer any other change of circumstances. For our 3 night stay in a female only dorm, we had to share with a male despite paying extra for a female only dorm. Abigail’s hostel were hardly apologetic and did nothing in return in compensation. This may have been an error on booking.com however Abigail’s hostel did not respond appropriately. We felt highly let down at the fact we had confirmed with the hostel 4 months prior to arriving that it was a female only dorm yet they had let the spare bunk to a man. If they told us they could not guarantee a female only dorm then we would have not chosen to stay at this hostel. We were very disappointed with our stay due to this situation and felt Abigail’s hostel did not respond well to the situation.…
The first night at the hostel we experiences a woman being hit in the street below the hostel Furthermore the breakfast we paid 10 euro per day for consisted of a bottle of water, an apple, a fruit bar and a pain au chocolat Will not recommend this place unless you are short of bad experiences
Stayed here while there for a weekend when the six nations was on. Excellent location , near to temple bar. Excellent service , girls behind desk sorted out a taxi for us to go to the sail port on the sunday. One of the cleanest hostels I've ever stayed in - good shower.Good selection for breakfast aswell.
Honestly have nothing bad to say. Spacious rooms, comfy beds, private bathroom and shower. The location is AMAZING and the stuff is the best I’ve ever met! An absolute recommendation for business and leisure!
I stayed at abigails hostel with a friend for 4 nights in a 8 bed mixed dorm. The last night we had some issues and last minute requested from the staff if they had any other available rooms. The staff at the counter were very helpful and pleasant and moved us and also assisted in organizing a taxi to the airport. The rooms are clean and basic, the location is great. For a bed and place to stay I would recommend Abigails. Thank you to all the staff at Abigails, you made our stay great.
We’re 2 females visiting Dublin for the weekend & booked Abigails for 1 night as it was in a great location (that’s the 1 star!) and price was reasonable compared to everywhere else. Staff were reluctant to help, not particularly welcoming or friendly, one gentleman on reception was extremely rude to us & argumentative when we asked him why the room was still occupied. The beds were unmade & dirty from last lot of guests. The cleaner did get round to our room but made 1 bed & left the bedding for the other for me to do my own! Bathroom was filthy. I dreaded getting a shower as the bottom of the bath was disgusting with muck. Sink was the same. Room was fairly spacious though & we used the free safes. All through the night people were knocking on doors, chatting loudly & slamming doors. I slept ok ear plugs too but got woken half a dozen times still. Breakfast was so so but I brought my own as they didn’t provide vegan milks, just cows milk so no good if you’ve an allergy to dairy like me. Rest was yoghurt, eggs, scones, muffins, toast, so not much if you’re dairy intolerant......never known anywhere not have a better alternative! Staff questioned me when I went to use the kitchen, it was blocked off with a trolley, defeats the point of a hostel where you can use the kitchen facilities. Shared areas were well worn & not exactly somewhere you’d go to socialise & meet fellow travellers. All in all it was pretty crap with rude staff. …
