Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a gem! Stayed here for just the one night but could not fault it at all. From the warm welcome at reception when we arrived, the beautiful spacious bedroom and ensuite, to the delicious breakfast the next day, it was wonderful. Staff were very friendly and greeted us by name. Fabulous choice for breakfast, I opted for Granola and even though I am not a vegetarian, the vegetarian cooked breakfast. Smashed avocado on sourdough was very tasty. We would definitely recommend The Gateway Lodge and will definitely be back the next time we are in Donegal.

We always stay at the Gateway Lodge & while I highly recommend it for the lovely staff, great welcome, cleanliness of the rooms & good value I think the rooms need to be painted asap. They are starting to look very drab & dirty looking. Was disappointed when we stayed in October 2022

Response from craig Loughman, General Manager at The Gateway Lodge
Responded 13 Dec 2022
Hi Clondara, thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us and for your return custom which we very much appreciate. I can assure you we are currently undergoing a complete renovation of all rooms within the property. These works began towards the end of September and we hope to have all rooms completed by early April. As you can imagine it can take some time longer in our setting as we have to manage works around our guests needs and requirements. We sincerely apologise for your let down when staying with us and we hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the near future to view our renovation works. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly on your return visit as I would love to personally meet you and gain your honest feedback on the improvements we have made. Kindest regards Craig Loughman

Check in: Friendly/professional young Lady at check-in. Most welcoming check in of my trip. Room: -My room faced the street=road noise. -Hotel spotlight shined brightly into window all night long. I had to keep the window opened as there was no AC and it was warm out. +Spacious shower with good size basket/container for personal products. +Large clean room. Parking: Free spacious parking area. Location: Walk-able to cafes/restaurants/shops.

A short walk from town, this small-ish hotel gave us a large room and (for once) a big comfortable bed (why are king size beds so rare in Ireland?!). Room was very clean with everything you might need and included my personal favourite - 2 chairs. Breakfast was particularly fine with very good food and fresh coffee served by friendly and efficient staff. A great stay when visiting this charming small Irish town.

This hotel reminded me of the good ol' motel days. The room was perfectly adequate and clean. The shower had good power and the bed was comfy. The staff was awesome and they had the best breakfast of our whole 2 week trip. Town is less than a 5 min. walk. Stay here, you won't be sorry.

Short walk to the town centre, plenty of parking, warm and clean room. Nice bathroom, comfy bed. Plenty of positives. Maybe slightly bigger towels for the bathroom and a shelf or two would be great. Didn’t sample the food so can’t comment. Few guys decided to talk outside my room at silly o’clock but it was handled by the night porter and reception staff were very apologetic in the morning. Will definitely return.
