Central Hotel's prime location earns high marks from guests who appreciate the convenience of nearby shopping and dining in Donegal. While some travelers have found the rooms in need of an update, others celebrate the modern bathrooms and spaciousness, along with the stunning views. The cleanliness of the hotel consistently receives positive mentions, especially the well-kept rooms. Amenities, including parking and the central location, are a hit, though the gym could use some improvement. Service at the hotel stands out, with staff recognized for their kindness and helpfulness. However, guests feel the overall value could be better, noting high prices and the absence of certain amenities like complimentary breakfast.

This hotel reminded me of the Tardis, much bigger on the inside than it would appear from the outside. The location is a short walk from all venues and although there is no onsite parking, parking is available a couple of minutes away for 30 Cent per hour and free from 18.00 to 09.00 so 1 Euro at 18.00 will cover parking until after noon the next day. It is also worth comparing Hotel prices as you could save more than 30 Euro per night

Myself and my husband stayed here with my parents on 15th Aug for 1 night. We arrived early and asked if by chance we could check in. The lovely lady at the desk sorted this for us quickly and also made sure we had rooms close to each other!
The rooms are dated decor but it didn't phase us at all as they were very spacious and extremely clean. The hotel has gone over and above to comply with covid 19 restrictions by having a one way system, signs and hand sanitising points all over the hotel. Dinner and breakfast were included in our wowcher deal and the food was plentiful and delicious. Due to restrictions there were not many other places to go but we enjoyed a few drinks after dinner. The pool is also very clean and myself and my mum enjoyed an evening swim before dinner. The staff are extremely friendly and we had such a lovely weekend. Would definitely return

We stayed 3 days at The Central last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. During these difficult times it was very reassuring to see that all protocols were in place regarding one way systems, sanitisation and face coverings. Had a lovely room with bay views that was clean and comfortable and breakfast every morning was top class as was the evening meal.

The staff were absolutely brilliant, all of them, from start to finish. From the the chef at breakfast time, to the chap locking the front door at night. They were attentive, helpful, courteous, polite and full of smiles that instantly put you at ease.

If you are ever going to change anything about this hotel, please please please, make sure it's NOT the staff. Thank you for a wonderful stay and hopefully we will see you soon.

When we arrived at 4.25pm we were told our room was not ready, when we questioned this we were told to " read the small print, check-in is from 4.30pm " She then told us the room wouldn't be ready anyway for at least another hour! Not happy with this so she said she'd give us another room..how very decent of her! Our room was 298, we could have had a nice river view if it wasn't for the bird crap on the window..it was reachable to clean from inside so no excuse! The bed and bathroom were clean enough, though the hotel Wifi contraption (that was supposed to give us all hotel info ) needed a 3 pin adapter and they didn't have one available. We were given 2 paper cups (that were supposed to do us for 3 days) that weren't changed. The room wasn't cleaned for the whole of our stay, a plastic bag with clean towels was left on the floor but used towels not taken away. The dining room had NO social distancing whatsoever, a free for all at the buffet, and the hand sanitizer was empty in the dining room. Finally, we were almost ( luckily we checked the bill ) overcharged by 150 Euro at checkout. Receptionist not friendly or helpful. Not a good experience and would not recommend.

Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for a two night package just after the August Bank Holiday.

We arrived at 1530 for check in, to be told our room would not be ready for 40 minutes. I completely appreciate that enhanced cleaning is required given the situation regarding Covid-19. After 3 hours of waiting and repeatedly asking the reception staff, we were able to check into our room.

The room was basic, outdated and the beds were extremely uncomfortable. There was an extractor fan from the kitchen located directly outside our bedroom window. We tried to call reception to advise of the noise, only to discover that the phone in the room didn’t work. We also could not connect to the WiFi as the wrong password was provided in the bedroom. I rang reception off my mobile phone and was advised that the extractor fan would stop at 10pm once the kitchen closed. From my recollection it was well after 11pm before the extractor fan stopped.

We raised our concerns with the Hotel manager who I must point out was very friendly. At this point we told her that we did not want to eat dinner at the Hotel. However, the Hotel manager persuaded us to dine at the Hotel and not to go elsewhere. She promised she would look after us at Dinner. This consisted of her physically serving us our Dinner and giving us a complimentary desert, this is not what I had quite expected.

Our Dinner was below average and we found it hard to enjoy, given that everything had happened previously. Breakfast was very poor.

The next morning the extractor fan started at 6am. The previous night I could also hear the neighbouring room complaining about the noise of the extractor fan and threatened to leave the Hotel.

We ended up cutting our stay one night short, which the Hotel Manager was very accommodating and understanding of. I’ve stayed in Hotels all around Ireland and the World and I’ve never stayed in a Hotel with so many problems. I really find it hard to comprehend how this Hotel has so many positive reviews.

This Hotel is a really great, quaint hotel, very clean, I didn’t get sick due to the carpet so the let me know it was a very well cleaned hotel and that they practice strong Covid-safe methods. I will tell you that after about a week in hotels in Ireland, I really appreciated that these rooms actually have LIGHTS on the walls and light up the room perfectly. It is hard to read in many of these hotels, but the lighting was amazing in this place. I was able to sleep very well here, the best and pillows were perfect too. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful to me, to help me find places to eat when Google maps failed me. The location of this hotel is amazing, you can cross the street and eat at the best place possible, or get the best Ice cream in sight, I was very happy with the location of the hotel.
The cons are pretty much that it’s sandwiched in the middle of the block so you’re not going to get a good view of anything, you can hear everything from the neighbors next to you so you should bring some ear plugs.

We stayed in the Central Hotel for three nights over the Bank Holiday weekend and we were not at all impressed by the room with very dated decor. However our main issue was that although marked a non-smoking room, there was an extremely strong odour of smoke and when we informed reception of this we were told that the issue would be addressed by housekeeping, however this never materialised and the following morning we had no choice but to return to reception and repeat the problem. Thankfully on this occasion the lady on reception was much more helpful and apologetic and provided us with an alternative room. We had one meal in the hotel as it was included in our package and although the meal was adequate, the set menu was quite limited and there was an hour between our starter and main course. Breakfast was also quite underwhelming with very little choice and no pastries or yoghurts which would be standard at any hotel breakfast. Therefore on our third morning, we decided to forego the breakfast in favour of crepes in Little Mamas ice cream parlour across the road which were much more enjoyable! Overall, it is clear that the hotel is in need of some major renovations to both the rooms and the dining experience in order to provide the standard expected by guests.

On arrival was informed room would not be ready till 4.30 nowhere does it say that online or website nor on conformation email. Asked could we use the pool and was told was fully booked till the following day and late that evening.

My room was basic I had to call on my mobile to get reception to let them know that my bed was broke in the middle and I had no towels after a evening check in. Gia I’m reception took the call and she does not understand anything being said she can speak English but can’t understand problems. An hour passed and eventually I had to go down to reception I met gia in a hall and she said I had moved already and got towels so just went down and a lovely helpful girl Leanne helped me out and got me a new room. Another family member called reception and got gia to ask could they have a pre dinner drink Int he bar an hour before she said she has to check never got back to them but ended up changing the dinner reservation which wasn’t asked to do.

Breakfast is pre booked was basic long ques and they ran out of bread and the toast lady was extremely slow the next day they seemed to resolve it a little better.

The last night out of our two we went to the bar to get a drink after dinner and was told was no room there but could go back to our room and get a drink there. Not long after live music from a hotel guest started and the bar was packed and loud found out the ok check out that hotel didn’t no about it.

It’s a central hotel but my advice is book everything weeks in advance or stay somewhere else we moved onto another hotel and was huge difference. Covid is easily and excuse to give but these issues are non Covid.

Having read reviews I was sceptical about our weekend. Having just returned we had a great time some people must be very hard to please.
At check in the girl was very friendly our room was spotless and spacious only thing was it was very warm but it was very warm outside.
We ate in Chapmans and food was lovely our waiter was Kris and such a lovely lad nothing was a bother to him.
Breakfast each morning was delicious the lady who greets you explained everything due to covid.
We had a great stay and will return.

We arrived on a Sunday and were promptly shown to our room. We had stumped up the extra few quid for a bay view. The view we got was the side of the restaurant next to us and a dirty car park. We made a quick call to reception and, to their credit, they resolved it in minutes.

The room we were shown to was apparently "newly refurbished". Maybe it'll be better when it's finished. The bathroom door lock was only half screwed on. There were four windows in the room but only one actually opened (I could tell from the outside that others could open all four fully). This brought problems at night. The room was like an oven. There was no air conditioning. The curtains were floor to ceiling and very thick. In order to get any air at night, we had to leave them open. This wouldn't have been so bad if the light at the gate outside didn't shine straight up to our ceiling lighting the room up like Las Vegas.

There were paper cups left for tea and coffee. These were replaced the next day along with a toilet roll in the bathroom. That was it. No fresh towels. Had to use the same towels from the previous day.

We went for a meal in the restaurant on the first night. I ordered sirloin of beef with Yorkshire pudding. Some mashed potato duely arrived with a thin sliver of meat on top and some veg. When I asked why I didn't get the rest of the meal that was listed on the menu, I was simply told they were out. Would have been nice to be informed before they brought it out.

All in all, I've paid considerably less for a lot more in the area. I'll mark this one down to experience.
