Marie McGowan has been welcoming guests into her home in this idyllic location on the shores of Donegal Bay since 1991.This spacious, modern town house is delightfully situated beside the historic old Abbey of Donegal Town [est.1474] and is surrounded to the South & West by the waters of Donegal Bay. From here, it is just a mere 5 minute walk into the centre of town.Marie takes great delight in pampering her guests, with her speciality breakfast of locally caught salmon, smoked and served with all the trimmings. Other options include her perfectly cooked full Irish fry, freshly prepared fresh fruit platters and her own unique style of porridge (family recipe). The Water’s Edge is an approved establishment of Bord Failte Ireland. • All rooms en suite • All rooms have TV/Electric Blankets/ Hair Dryers • Tea & Coffee making facilities are also available • Overlooking Donegal Bay & 15th Century Abbey Ruins • Quiet, peaceful location yet within 5 minutes walk of town centre. Not only do visiting guests leave The Water’s Edge feeling completely satisfied, but the ducks & swans who spend their time lazily drifting up and down the Bay are well catered for too!

We stayed in Donegal Town as part of our two week tour of Ireland. I had booked this B&B many months in advance after reading reviews on TA, I always book in the centre of town but was enticed by the photos of the water views. We were not disappointed the views of the bay are even better in real life and the Abbey ruins & graveyard behind the house are just as spectacular. Unfortunately you cannot access the ruins from the backyard, it has been fenced off, but you can walk through the ruins from the car park in town. This special location was really worth the trade off of a 10 to15 minute stroll into town. Marie is friendly & helpful without being intrusive, we felt very comfortable coming and going at our leisure. The breakfast room is a lovely bright room, we met a very nice couple and enjoyed chatting with them on our first morning. As mentioned in many reviews Marie's breakfasts are lovely and she goes out of her way to personalise the experience, I don't drink tea or coffee and Marie remembered this and brought me a hot chocolate on our second day without any prompting. I only have one negative the water pressure was poor in the shower in our room, I am not sure if this was because we were upstairs. Having said that I would definitely recommend this property and will stay here again if ever I am lucky enough to return to wonderful friendly Donegal Town.

My Mom and I stayed for a night in July 2014. We had a twin bedded room on the second floor. Our room was spacious, modern and very clean. Our ensuite bathroom was also very spacious and modern. The B&B was at capacity the evening we were there, but we didn't hear a peep the entire time. Very peaceful, quiet accommodations.

Wonderful waterfront location within walking distance of all amenities in city center.

Breakfast was delicious with your choice of several entrees.

Our host, Marie, was most friendly and gracious.

My wife and I recently stayed at The Waters Edge while bicycling in County Donegal. The accommodations were lovely and the waterside setting is spectacular. Marie was a lovely and charming hostess and her recommendation for dinner was excellent. Her full Irish breakfast is not for the faint of heart--it's quite generous and excellent. After eating you might want to include some exercise as part of you day. The B&B is within easy walking distance of the center of Donegal Town shopping and the castle. We had a lovely experience and would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in this B&B for four days recently. We were impressed from when we arrived. The house is surrounded by the most fantastic views. The bedrooms have I would say just been re-decorated. They were clean and very modern. We were given clean towels every day. Each room had it own TV and ensuite. There was a huge choice of breakfast and Tea and Coffee were available in the dining room all day! (Being a big tea drinker this was a huge plus for me). The B&B is about a 5 minute walk from Donegal Town. I will definetly be returning here for another stay!

Our tour company booked The Water's Edge on our behalf and first we were a little superstitious when our internet search showed a cemetery right in its backyard LOL but let me tell you this place is STUNNING! The house is beautiful, fully modern, the rooms were gorgeous and spacious! Our bathroom was spacious as well since we had the family room. The views of the Donegal Bay and the Donegal Abbey were so beautiful and peaceful. I would gladly stay here again if given the opportunity. The town is just a few minute walk if you cut through the Abbey, best shortcut ever! Within mins you are right in the heart of the town complete with restaurants and storefronts. You had the choice between 2 breakfast options, would have liked if the host popped in to check if we needed anything else but other than that breakfast was delicious. Please note to bring your own toiletries as soap and washcloths are not provided.

Wendy was a welcoming, yet non-intrusive host. We had a double room with a peaceful view of the water. We appreciate hot drinks being available all the time in the dining room. Would have appreciated some toiletries for the shower. Delicious breakfast! I recommend the pancakes and the cooked option. Remember to bring cash to pay, but several cash point in the town centre which is 10 mins away. Great setting next to the ruined Abbey.

We stayed here with our teen daughters and loved the hospitality, great breakfasts and proximity to the Abbey ruins and town center. Comfortable, modern amenities with a lovely view of Donegal bay. On a warm summer night, it's a special treat to sit on the perfect lawn overlooking the water.
