The location, (next to the University) is on a QUIET cul-de-sac on the river.. yet crossing the small bridge you are on the main road in seconds. perfect! (I noticed many B&Bs on that main road across the small river..it is very busy and noisy there) We were about a 10 minute walk to the city. (Always seemed to stop at Costigans pub on the way)
Tony and Avril made us feel immediately at home. Tony offered valuable advise on what to see (things not mentioned in our guide books) , where to eat etc. , Avril makes delicious scones and a nice range of breakfast choices. We very much enjoyed chatting with them both!
The room was comfortable and nicely appointed, good sized bathroom with a shower (good water pressure..not all that common)
Highly recommended!

I chose Fernroyd House B & B for a 4 day stay with my family ( my husband , three teenagers/young adults , my 88 year old mum and brother) in Cork to attend my graduation. This lovely well kept B and B is in a very quite beautiful location near University College Cork and an easy walk or bus ride into the city centre and has a nearby beautiful park. The rooms were very comfortable especially the beds, equipped with all one needs and the breakfast room was very warm and homely. The breakfast was superb and offers a menu with a good choice of cooked breakfast and delicious freshly baked scones! This is already enough for a great stay, however what we loved most was the warm welcome and hospitality of Tony and Avril, the owners of Fernroyd B & B. It was like being home away from home. Thank you so much Tony & Avril for making my graduation a memorable one. We hope we can visit again some time soon.

Back to the Cork area on another trip in November & just had to stay with Tony & April. Tea & scones on arrival just as good as our previous trip as was our breakfast each morning. We also enjoyed the cheese & crackers on our return each evening, you have converted us to the Cashel Blue cheese! now bringing packs home with us from The English Market, well worth a visit in the centre of the city. The car never moved from the on-street parking just outside the house such is the location, a pleasant 15 minute walk to not just the market but also Oliver Plunkett street, the pedestrian street known for its pubs, restaurants & shops, don’t forget to check out the side streets as well. If you’re stuck for choice just ask Tony & Avril & they will point you in the right direction. In fact we may have to return again to Fernroyd House as more exploring required!
Thanks again Tony & Avril,
A very Happy New Year one & all
Paul & Margretta 😁

My boyfriend and I spent 4 nights in late July at the wonderful Fernroyd House. I believe we were amongst the first guests booked this summer, since people have started to brave travel again (even within Ireland) and Avril and Tony welcomed us in like family! We would definitely rate Fernroyd House 5 stars for both accommodation and hostpitality:

The location of the B&B is just perfect. A stone's throw from a host of bars and restaurants on Washington Street and never more than a 15 minute walk from any shop, bar or restaurant we decided to visit subsequently to that. We were able to park the car in the driveway as well which was a great convenience.

The rooms are immaculately clean and very spacious indeed, with designer bedding, brand new windows (no noise at all) and a perfect modern shower. No Irish house is naturally equipped with air conditioning, but Avril immediately placed a large fan in our room for us to use during the only heatwave to have hit us in years which did the job just fine!

Breakfast was absolutely delicious and very copious with plenty of options for both hot breakfast eaters as well as those who prefer a more continental breakfast like myself. (Tony - I am still dreaming about that porridge!). We were delivered freshly baked scones every morning and, in fact, whenever we announced we were off on a little day trip we were kindly offered scones for our journey - so thoughtful!

Finally, the hosts: Tony and Avril are just the kindest people in Cork and full of knowledge. We took it upon ourselves to reserve all dinner and bar bookings in advance due to covid outdoor dining obligations, but Tony made sure to validate our choices each night to make sure they were good enough!! They both have such a charm and fantastic wit and sense of humour, and we just adored chatting with them whenever we caught them around the house! Our only regret is not to have been able to share a bottle of wine with you both during our stay, but I am certain that we will be back very soon to tick that off the list.

Thank you so much again Avril & Tony! (Jenna & Cathal from Dublin).

My family of 3 had a lovely experience at Fernroyd House. Tony and Avril welcomed us with scones, tea, and information on our arrival and were always available with suggestions or to call a taxi. We stayed in two rooms as the family room was already booked when I made reservations. My "just turned teen" son loved having his own room which was just down from ours. Great shower, comfortable beds, and filling breakfasts. There is a bus stop not too far around the corner from the B&B and it is also within walking distance of much of Cork. Tony is a wealth of information and we ended up going to Blarney Castle based on his suggestion which we definitely enjoyed. They have laundry service which was so helpful and they allowed us to leave our bags after checkout to explore a bit more before heading to our next destination. Highly recommend!

From the moment we arrived at the B&B we were made to feel at home with homemade scones and coffee. A quiet area with safe on-street parking or in the parking bay our hosts had considerable knowledge of the area & directed us to the places of interest we wanted to visit in & around Cork. The city center was a 10-15 min walk & on returning to the house in the evening there were cheese and crackers sitting waiting, a welcome touch. The room was perfect for our needs & very comfortable. Breakfast was exceptional with quite a selection on the menu. Would have no hesitation staying here again & probably will in the future, in fact, wouldn't even consider anywhere else in Cork. Tks folks, V&P, Armagh

Just got back home from Tony and Avril’s B&B. Fernroyd House is a welcoming spot just 20 meters outside University College, Cork. It is a comfortable place, very bright and clean, and it makes for a warm and cosy stay in the winter months. A lot more can be said of Tony and Avril’s presence. They were extremely pleasant and helpful, and good company. They certainly added that all too important human touch. The breakfast was delicious and generous. They both went out of their way to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. Even when we had a small contingency when we were out, totally disconnected from their business, they went miles out of their way to make sure things were put to rights.
Tony and Avril will certainly see us again…and some of our friends too.

The house itself is a true vintage beauty with mosaic tiling, gorgeous hand plates, tiled fireplaces, and vintage chandeliers. I am on a study abroad and I swear I have never slept better than when I was here. The beds are insanely comfortable and the showers have the best water pressure imaginable. Breakfast was delicious and provided tons of options. Not only that but the hosts were the sweetest people I have met on this trip. Always there to lend a helping hand or to talk about the city. The house is right next to the main roads of Cork City so everything is in walking distance. My friend planned on getting a tattoo in Ireland to commemorate the trip, however could not decide on what she wanted until we came to this house. The key to the room was a skeleton key and was so beautiful (like I said this house is gorgeous including every detail) and ended up getting it tattooed on her calf. That’s how memorable and enjoyable this place is. I’ve never left review before but if anyone deserves it, it’s this house and these owners.

Finding a nice accomodation in Cork in high season at reasonable cost seemed to be a challenging task until I came across Fernroyd House B&B a few months before our stay.

Avril and Tony are amazing hosts. The room was cozy and convenient, the B&B is located next to the university and in walking distance to downtown. If you need a restaurant recommendation or some information about the area just ask Tony. There is an abundant choice of breakfast options with freshly baked scones every morning. We also enjoyed the outdoor sitting space.

The B&B and its hosts definitely deserve all the fantastic reviews.

I studied abroad back in 2014 at UCC, and while my parents visited, they stayed at the Fernroyd House. 8 years later, my mom and I returned to again stay at the Fernroyd. It is the best place to stay in Cork!! Avril and Tony are the most friendly and accommodating hosts, and they offer the most delicious breakfast with plenty of food options. They are like family! The bedrooms are very comfortable & clean, and the bathrooms are spacious. The Fernroyd is located in a more quiet part of the city, right next to UCC’s campus and about a 5-10 minute walk to the city center. Highly recommend, and will be staying again soon!

Tripadvisor doesn't permit me to enter a web address, however if you take the word 'info' add it to '@' and add that to 'fernroydhouse' followed by a '.' and 'com' that will get you there :) If you stay, tell Tony that Peter the South African says 'hi!'.
