We arrived to this hotel in Cork on NYE to attend a concert and I arrived narky and tired. Upon arrival, I was greeted (and entertained) by the guest relations manager, John C. Who really lifted my mood and set the scene for my break. The same man upgraded our room for us, without us requesting this and could not have been any more helpful.

Dinner in the Met restaurant was good and was well priced.

Thanks to barman John O'Mahony for the great recommendation on the Riscal Rioja and the friendly chat, not too sure about the Tanora gin though.... maybe it's a Cork thing...

Food was good, rooms were very clean, chambermaids/valets were very friendly and helpful.

Checkout was painless and very Courteous, with offers to use the pool and leave luggage until our departure. They even helped sort out an issue that arose through a 3rd party booking agent. Thank you John Crean for that.

The staff really made this 3 day stay to this Cork Hotel very enjoyable. You can see that this ethos is instilled from Management, who lead by example.

I work in the hospitality sector and truly value good service; this is what we got.
We will most definitely be back.
Metropole Hotel, take a bow.

I was taken to the Metropole for a surprise 3 day break for my birthday.
I don't know where to start the thanks and praise for every single member of staff that we encountered.
From the moment we met Ana on reception right up until our departure everything was perfect.

Our room was fabulous, the food fantastic I have never seen so much choice for breakfast before and I have stayed in a lot of hotels , the staff are exceptionally helpful and kind and nothing is too much trouble.

There are lovely touches of things such as fresh water pitchers on every floor along with a tray of apples for the guests to enjoy.
I really can't wait to go back

Had a very comfortable stay for 4 nights.
John was extremely welcoming and made the start of our break. Hotel room was a good size and very clean. Had tea and coffee and hairdryer. Was in a great location. Was on a busy road and heard the traffic but didn't mind it too much. Spa facilities were a nice bonus, couldn't brave the pool though as it was too cold for me! The parking is a stone's throw away and a paymemt card can be purchased from reception, currently €7.50 a day. Would definately recommend staying here but if you don't book direct with the hotel I would check the size room you're allocated to avoid paying extra on arrival. Thanks for a great stay!

I recently spent 3 nights at the Metropole Hotel in Cork that included one evening meal and an afternoon tea. In terms of value for money, I think it was good offer and the evening meal at the hotel was good. The hotel is really central, a short walk from Cork Kent train station, the Bus Station and about a 5 minute walk from the main shopping area and there are numerous cafes, restaurants etc in the immediate area which is a little run down looking but not dissimilar to city centre locations in other cities. The location is excellent, especially, if like us, you are exploring the area on foot/public transport. The hotel itself is quite old fashioned inside which some would say is in keeping with the Victorian architecture but some of the furnishings in the public areas and rooms have seen better days. The rooms are a decent size (stayed in a standard double) with an en suite inc. a shower attachment to the wall within a bath, no separate shower cubicle. The staff was excellent in terms of friendliness and one of Metropole's greatest assets. Overall, an enjoyable stay and I would not rule out going back but there are other better presented and better furnished hotels in Cork City. More 3 star than 4 in terms of general appearance. Due to COVID, no room servicing was taking place but fresh towels were left at the door daily along with fresh toiletries. It was odd having to book a slot for breakfast in advance but no long queues formed and it was managed well by the staff.

The room was small and crowded. Had to move furniture to watch t.v. from bed. But my biggest complaint was no housekeeping. I was there 2 nights. When I returned to the room on the second day, there was a bag with towels hanging on the door. My waste bins needed emptying and the rug needed vacuuming. (I ate in the room.) At check out, I was told this was because of COVID that rooms were not cleaned if a person was staying over. But from my confirmation
Comfort - Daily housekeeping

The price was more than I would usually pay because I wanted the comfort and service of a really nice hotel. The Metropole failed this test.

Stayed at the Metropole Hotel with a group of friends over the Rugby weekend. The location of the hotel is ideal, close to the airport and to all the bars and restaurants (to which there are plenty to choose from!)
The room we had (303) was a bit on the small side and we could hear a bit of humming noise coming from the air conditioning units located on the flat roof of the hotel. So if you are a light sleeper, it may be better for you to ask for a room in a different position. That said, it was very clean and the shower was great!
The breakfast is amazing, plenty of choice from the buffet. They make your cooked Irish breakfast to order which is so much better than a ‘hot breakfast buffet’, 9/10 it’s not hot! Even better, breakfast is served until 11am a on the weekend and 10.30am midweek👍🏼😀!
Every member of staff we came to contact with were so professional friendly and obliging. All the girls who looked after us during breakfast were amazing, and despite it being really busy on Saturday and Sunday morning, they kept calm and managed to ensure everyone were given a great service with a smile.
We ate in the restaurant on Sunday night and had the pre theatre menu served until 7pm. 30€ for 3 courses & 25€ for two courses, good value and the food was great.
John, the hotel’s concierge, was excellent and went out of his was to ensure we had a great stay. Worthy of a mention are also Lorraine, Michelle, Niall and Luig.
Despite Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 loosing to Ireland 🇮🇪, (to be fair, the best team won!) we had a great welcome from our Irish friends!

Stayed here with my sister recently when we were down to see a show in the Opera House. It's been a while since we stayed at the Metropole but we felt at home as soon as we arrived! Our room had a lovely view of the river and the Mary Elmes Bridge all lit up. Although we didn't have dinner in the hotel we did have breakfast both mornings. Great selection of food on the continental buffet, and the hot breakfast cooked to order, which was delicious :) We were looked after both mornings by a lovely lady called Lorraine. She told us all about the new bridge and about Mary Elmes and gave us suggestions as to where to go and what to see during our stay in Cork. We had great fun with Lorraine and her colleague, Michelle, and they both couldn't have done more for us! The Metropole is in a very central location, across the bridge from the city center and minutes away from the bus and train stations. We would highly recommend this hotel and hope to stay again in the near future :)

I checked in here with my children and elderly parents this week, our stay was disappointing on a number of fronts really. When I booked I was not aware that the leisure centre was closed, this was only highlighted to me 2 days previous on a welcoming email. Also the hotel is not very accessible for wheelchairs. When I requested an accessible room on booking I was given 2 choices, one with twin beds and a lip into the shower or one with a double bed but straight into shower, we went with the second option but there was still a lip into the shower.
The reception staff do not seem aware of what is going on in the lobby, several times my parents struggled to get into the hotel and to the breakfast room in the wheelchair and nobody noticed or offered help. Only when I went to them as I was checking out and highlighted that I should have been made aware of the hotels limitations for disabled access on booking, did they tell me they can assemble a ramp on the steps for the wheelchair. Maybe a sign would be good or better still the reception staff to inform their guests in wheelchairs that a ramp is available when needed if they do not want to leave it out at all times or even build a permanent structure.
Where we ended up eating in the bar, there were several steps down and up, Mam managed it but it wasn't ideal. I know it's an old hotel and a bit all over the place so it's not easy to adapt but I think more effort could be made for sure.
On check-in with my son, the reception staff also could not give me proper instructions on how to get to the rooms via the stairs, he seemed insistent on us using the lift , (this was good for my mother in the wheelchair but we wanted to know where the stairs was for quick access also as there was a queue for the lift), it felt like he didn't know or didn't want me to use the stairs, it was very strange. Perhaps the reception staff were getting alot of complaints due to heat etc...and this had them off form but they did not seem like happy campers in their jobs on any of the days I was there.
The room was lovely, large and clean and there was a fan provided without having to ask. I also found the staff in the bar and restaurant to be very helpful, friendly and efficient, we enjoyed a tasty dinner there, the food was good.
Overall a disappointing stay, the family room for 1 adult and 3 children cost me €200 for the night B&B, which I would pay no problem in a higher grade hotel with a leisure centre, I came away feeling very sorry I had not booked a different city centre hotel because I know I would have gotten far better value for my money, I had looked at other, similar price nicer hotels but I thought the location of this might be better for wheelchair access into the city so worth trying it out, I was wrong.

This hotel without doubt did not live up to expectations.
I stayed here last week in a double room for 2 nights.
Upon arrival we were greeted by a lovely receptionist who was full of life and chat.
However that is where the 'excellence' stopped.
Our room had the tamper proof sticker on the door to ensure the room was cleaned to a top standard as per their Covid training in line with the Certificate proudly displayed on the reception desk.
Once within the room, my girlfriend was glad she had brought anti-bacterial wipes.
We began by wiping the leather chair, desk top, bedside lockers all of which turned the white wipe into a dusty colour.
The Tv remote was espically bad, it was evident it hadnt been cleaned to any standard what so ever as both hair and dirt were visable prior to wiping the remote.
Once in the batchroom a fake eyelash was found on the window-cill and to top that it was clearly evident that behind the toilet bowl was not cleaned.
Having no Air-conditioning in the room was also a major disapointment.
The service in the restaurant was fair however we were left for half an hour between main and desert before plates been taken away and desert menu been given to us.
There was a very poor selection of drinks available with a lot of the cocktail menu not available and most of the beer tapes also not available.
Thankfully we didnt spend much time here as we enjoyed Cork city and the surrounding areas.

We stayed at the Metropole for a week at the end of July and it was absolutely wonderful. We have been to Cork several times before and this was one of our favorite hotels we have stayed in. We were very impressed with the masking and cleanliness of the hotel, all staff wore masks and were very considerate and aware of COVID policies. Their outdoor eating area was great too!

We arrived after their heat wave and while the rooms were a little toasty, they had 2 fans for our room to help move the air. The Cozy room was quite warm and that room had 2 smaller windows that opened upward and not very wide so that room did not cool down as much as our Signature Twin room, that had larger windows that opened downwards. (We had 2 rooms) The fans were helpful!

The hotel was beautiful and had different seating areas that were beautifully decorated and the music they played was great! Lots of Dean Martin, Frank etc. The staff in all parts of the hotel were friendly and very welcoming. The concierge was very helpful with everything, including when I needed to print out documents from our airline to return home and helping with sites for departure COVID testing locations. The restaurant staff were wonderful and John, the bartender, was not only a great mixologist (wonderful drinks) but so friendly and full of great recommendations for things to do and see while in the city. There were 2 different Hannah's that worked in the restaurant as well- both were fabulous and friendly as well. We are so glad we found this hotel, we loved it and will be back!

So sorry with the delay in answering! My room was a last minute booking and there wasn’t a mini fridge in it. But as the home of the Cork Jazz, I’d bet that they would help you out. Perhaps you’ve stayed already, in which case Cheers! I hope you had a swinging good time.

Yes, a lot of people at now staying at the hotel. The law is constantly, but as far as I know you can have drinks at the bar while having food. Residents may have more privileges.
