Great hotel in central location, close to theatre and surrounded by some great friendly bars. Very comfortable nights sleep and great breakfast cooked to order. Staff very friendly and would happily stay again.
I stayed here at the weekend with a friend. The location of the hotel is excellent and the room was simple, clean and njce. Hot Breakfast on both mornings was absolutely terrible. Food was smothered in salt and pepper, pancakes over cooked even English muffin burnt!! Buffet breakfast was njce on Saturday morning. On Sunday morning there was a shortage of everything. No pastries, very few yoghurts and brown spotty bananas. Took over 20 minutes each morning to take our hot breakfast order. Very unorganised, potentially short staffed. Went to the bar on Saturday evening and dirty glasses were just pilled on the bar top until dishwasher was loaded, could be 60-80 glasses on the counter. Surprising the cleaning process is just leaving dirty glasses on the counter until dishwasher is emptied and restacked. This went on all night. From a guests point of view, it looks badly managed and just untidy. Nice hotel but missing the likes of a general manager to ensure things look well for guests and all is in order. Disappointed overall seeing as it’s not a cheap visit.…
Could be great but owners and not investing in upkeep. If you look closely everything is somehow broken and/or poorly repaired. Staff was doing their best with what they had available. Hotel is riding on a name they built themselves 10 years ago instead of maintaining top level experience
Centrally located, this is a friendly efficiently run, spotlessly clean hotel. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and I look forward to returning in a couple of months.in particular, the breakfast at this hotel is excellent.
Had a lovely stay last week in The Metropole Hotel. The reception staff were very nice and stored our luggage for us when we arrived early, they were also very helpful on checking in and giving some recommendations around the city. The hotel is located very near the bus stop and in a great location. Had a lovely breakfast the following morning also. Hotel is nice and clean, and I love that there was a fan provided in the wardrobe also. Unfortunately our reservation was only for 1 night so we didn't get to experience the Bar and Restaurant.
Lovely characteristic hotel. Room was bright, clean ,with tea/ coffee making facilities. Staff professional but very approachable and very attentive. The location was so central in the heart of the city. Bus station, cafes , restaurants all near by, and a very convenient Spar shop just opposite the hotel with the most helpful staff also.
Myself and my wife stayed here for her 40th birthday recently. We absolutely love the hotel. The character and ambiance of the hotel is second to none but what really makes the hotel special are the staff. All of the front of house staff couldn't do enough for you. They are always engaging, friendly and on hand to help in any way they can.
I was very impressed. The location is good. The food is great. And the staff are absolutely stellar. They really look after guests with food allergies. Everyone was very aware and helpful but Michelle the breakfast manager deserves a special shout out for her thoughtfulness. We had a wonderful weekend and will stay there anytime we are in Cork again.
Lovely central position for Cork for restaurants and pubs, parking near by. Old Head about an hours drive Cork golf course much closer. Would stay there next time in Cork. The Breakfast were fantastic.
You arrive in the spacious, comfortable lobby. You're welcomed, warmly, by the friendly staff on the reception desk. If you're ridiculously early, as we were, they'll gladly store your luggage whilst you explore Cork. We were offered a call when our room was ready, but decided to return and enjoy their sumptuous and numerous seating options in the lobby. Our room was ready early, despite how busy the hotel was (Ed Sheeran weekend). We had a spacious, twin room, overlooking the river, plenty of storage, comfy beds, ample towels and toiletries, iron, ironing board, tea and coffee facilities, all that was possibly missing was a fridge (I love a fridge!). They even included some sweet extras including a birthday card for the birthday girl! The breakfast was fabulous! A selection of hot options served by the most amenable staff. My personal favourite was The Full Irish with choice of eggs, but the Eggs Benedict was excellent too (I'm confident all options were equally good). There was also a generous self-serve area for pastries, cereal, juice, toast etc. We also dined in the restaurant, again great food, great service: it's a recurring theme at The Metropole in Cork! We started with cocktails in the bar, each one more delicious than the last. Dinner comprised of organic duck liver parfait (literally parfait!) followed by perfectly cooked fillet steak. Pudding was an impossibility after all that, but I'm sure they wouldn't disappoint either. It's worth noting how high the level of service was throughout, particularly given how busy The Metropole was during our visit. Not only was the city hosting Ed Sheeran for multiple, sold-out shows, the hotel hosted a social democrat event and the Miss Cork contest during our stay. Surprisingly, nowhere within the hotel felt overcrowded or understaffed at any point. Housekeeping worked tirelessly to keep every inch pristine, clean, and safe for all. My final words to all the staff at The Metropole in Cork are "Thanks a million!"…
