I stayed here recently with a colleague and whilst the place is a bit dated, it is clean, tidy and warm. It is a handy location, being an easy walk into the city centre, and has limited onsite parking. This is where the good part finishes. On arrival, we were greeted by "have you booked?" On answering "yes, booked by work" all we got in reply was 2 keys and "6 and 7, second floor, breakfast half seven" grunted at us. The rooms themselves were OK. Mine was quite small but adequate, whilst my colleagues was a good size. The shower was very good. Hot and powerful and there was a kettle with tea/coffee making facilities. There was a TV there which worked fine but had very limited (freeview) channels. The following morning we had an early start so went for what is described in their description on Booking.com as "Traditional" breakfast at "half seven" as per last night's grunted information, It was quite possibly the worst breakfast I have seen in over 30 years of Business travel. To be grunted with "sausage and poached eggs alright?" Wasn't much good as my colleague doesn't eat eggs. There was plenty of fruit and cereals available but these aren't really what you want on a cold, wet January morning with snow forecast for later in the day. When the misnamed "Breakfast" arrived it was a complete and utterly joke. 3 tiny microwaved chipolata sausages on an anemic piece of toast, and in my case a couple of soggy poached eggs, again looking like they'd been done in the microwave. The highlight of the whole experience was the tea and coffee and leaving the place. On their own website they state "Delicious Breakfast". In my opinion, they should be prosecuted under the trades description act for both this and having the brass neck to call themselves a Bed and Breakfast. If you like rude service and lousy food, stay here. If you don't, there are 4* hotels aailable nearby for not much more money. I'll not be staying here again …
This bed and breakfast is located in the western outskirts of the city, close to centre and close to university and Bon’s secours hospital. Plenty of free parking on site. Rooms basic, but include small tv with irish channels, en-suite with good hot water and good power shower. Bed comfortable and room was warm. Place dated, but I reckon much of the building may be protected from too much modernisation. Breakfast, not a huge menu, just really bacon and egg on toast or egg on toast or beans on toast, plus selection of fruit and cereals, however the bacon and egg was very fresh and tasty. Coffee was ok, the staff were friendly and courteous. Probably the closest bar is about 10 minutes walk, Reidys Wine Vaults bar, in the city direction. A bus stop just a few metres from the place will bring you into the city and elsewhere. …
Unfortunately a very poor experience. My room's heating did not work, the shower couldn't be turned on. A loud noise shook the bathroom twice during the night, as if a huge pump had turned on, it lasted for 20 minutes each time, very scary. As for the bed!!! Well I tossed turned, until I got up and looked under the mattress protector, the mattress had several holes in it and metal springs were sticking through the protector. The next morning the owner was apologetic, and I was given another room for the second night. Apparently that mattress was due to be replaced "at some stage". I was asked if I could describe the loud noise "as others had complained, but we aren't sure what the cause is" The property appears to be in the middle of renovations. My original room should never have been let.…
We stayed for 5 nights, host was very helpful and ready to suggest possible places to visit by car. Comfortable room with extra bed, great shower and good breakfast. Within walking distance to city Centre, very close to university college cork.
This was a great location, not too far from the City Centre. The owner had a sense of humor. Breakfast had a great view. Didn't like the parking much, the only negative part of this location. The price was appropriate eciate and I wouldn't say this place was run down as some others mentioned, this is an older structure and with that comes to character. I purposely wanted classic. Oh btw. this place had sheets! which looking back after going through so many different B&Bs throughout our road trip is awesome!
Stayed as a solo traveler when attending a course in CIT, from where it is only ca. 10min. by car. Easy to find and handy parking outside the door. Stayed in Room 7 on second floor facing to the front but not noisy.Large room with Single and Double bed in it. Small bathroom with new and hasa very efficient shower. Breakfast was simple. Several choices of Cereals, Orange juice, Tea or coffee. Had Scrambled eggs with Bacon, eggs were nicely seasoned Bacon a bit hard. Maura is a very pleasant and informative host and her young staff are efficient and polite.
This guesthouse is extremely over priced. I was shocked at conditions in the bedroom as there was a huge plastic panel screwed into the wall, presumabley covering up a hole. The floor in the bathroom was coming up and you were unable to close one of our windows properly. I have stayed in places for half the price where conditions are much better. Some postitives include owner and staff were friendly which made the experience more pleasant however I would never go back.
We came there on the 25june had a look at the room and promptly walked out as it was filthy it was worth loosing our payment The cleaner never had a clue and the owner never knew if the room was done or not he never even showed us around The fire alarms are hanging and obviously not fixed
I was a bit afraid to find myself in an unpleasant situation after an unwelcoming phonecall with owner (mistake on my part, but yet again: not welcoming). I was happy to have this feeling disproved: the premise is beautiful and clean, breakfast is good, and were pleasantly impressed by the professionalilty of the young staff member.
Location is ideal! Right beside UCC and 10 min slow walk to the city centre. Lovely host and staff, very welcoming and the house has recently had some decoration done. If you’re looking for the ritz, this is not it but if good value and excellent location is what you need this is your house.
