The Imperial Hotel boasts a high standard of cleanliness and an elegant decor that reflects its rich history, earning it praise from guests. While its central location is consistently lauded for convenience, the experience is marred by noise complaints and mixed reviews on room quality, with some citing dated interiors and space issues. Service is acknowledged for staff friendliness but criticized for efficiency. Many guests feel the value is not commensurate with the costs, especially given the additional fees and the mixed opinions on amenities like breakfast and the spa.

Stayed recently for 4 nights. Checked in early evening and we were delighted to find we had been upgraded to a junior suite. Lovely spacious room with a spa bath and complementary bottle of wine. There was also a fridge with plenty of soft drinks & water plus a safe. The staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. There was plenty of choice at breakfast both cooked selection, fruits, meats, cheese & pastries. The parking was a walk away but we were lucky with the weather so it was not too much of an issue. The hotel validates tickets to give discount so parking costs 15€ per day. There are two suggested car parks, as we arrived later in the day we parked in the further carpark which was still less than 10 minute walk. Be aware if you are there for a few days and don’t move your car for over 24 hours check that your ticket has been validated for the entire period. We had difficulty sorting out the parking ticket because the ticket had only been validated for one 24 hour period and we almost ended up with additional parking charges fortunately we managed to sort this out. Door staff kindly helped when we dropped off luggage and our bags were transferred straight to our room. We used the spa facilities only once, there is a small hydro pool and 2 steam rooms plus treatments available to book. You need to book for the hydro pool as numbers are restricted to ensure there is no overcrowding. There is a charge for the spa unless you are staying in a suite. The hotel is close to lots of shops, bars and restaurants- perfect location for city break. The only thing negative I can think of was the hairdryer in the room, it left my hair frizzy and was ready for replacement. This was a very minor issue in an otherwise fantastic break.

We had a lovely one-night stay at The Imperial Hotel. This is a hotel in the classic style: ornate pillars, painted ceilings, nice artwork, and historic artifacts. Impressive.

Check in and out was easy and quick--everything was in order.

The staff were so friendly. The doormen (if that's the proper title) were helpful and went out of their way to be sure we were all welcomed. We had a good few chats with them.

Our room was so lovely: large with a big comfortable bed. Tea and coffee making facilities. And it was spotless.

We ate at the restaurant and had a delicious plated Irish breakfast--other alternatives were available. Food was great and the server was so nice.

Location is great--right in the center of Cork with all amenities nearby.

Wifi is throughout and the bandwidth allowed for movie watching.

There is parking but it is about 250 meters away.

All-in-all a very lovely stay

The friendly staff and service made this hotel stay. A word of advice would be to upgrade your room if possible, the classic double room was a little too cosy for us with two suitcases. Carpark was a five minute walk but we could drop suitcases with the concierge and then park.

Dear Helen K Thank you for taking the time to review the Imperial Hotel. I am very lucky to have a brilliant team working with me at the hotel, and so I am delighted that their service and care have been mentioned. As our historic hotel is situated in the heart of Cork City, the private car park, where our guests can benefit from a reduced rate, is indeed a short walk away. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Best Regards Bastien

I am going to be honest about this review and not be mean....firstly the hotel is lovely on the inside, and i can not, genuinely can not say enough good things about the staff, the customer care and service is outstanding, so friendly! 5 stars for the staff!!

We were due to stay in August and due to sickness we had to cancel last minute, the team were great and rescheduled us which is what we had wanted. However, we did not realise the cost increase of 120 euro from a wednesday night to a friday night over a month and half later.

The hotel is pretty on the side and the decor in the room was very nice. However, i was surprised to see a 4ft6 bed in the room but I understand the rooms are smaller, its an older building - but very disappointed we were at the front of the hotel and it did not appear as though the hotel was fully booked, so would have thought they could have given us a better placed room. Sleeping was not great, the pillows for me were awful but I understand this is a preference thing, I like a firmer pillow for support, but between the pillows and the traffic outside and the shouting of natives or party goers in the middle of the night did not make for a great sleep in a bed smaller than the one we have at home. I will say, the mattress was definitely one of the better mattresses in a hotel I have been in! Room was spotless aside from a tear in the quilt cover that I could have done without.
Our room had an issue with the hot tap, it did not work....and made an unmerciful noise when turned on, like the whole sink was about to come off the wall! So washing ones hands after the toilet was not really great.

Breakfast was a mixed bag as well. Again, I can not fault the staff, they are marvelous. I had the eggs benedict which was devine, albeit small, but its eggs benedict so its not a huge breakfast. I had asked for some black and white pudding on the side which the waitress said, of course too, and then one small piece of white pudding was put on my plate. I think for the price we paid for the hotel room, there was a meanness to the breakfast. The baskets of food at the buffet were pretty much empty at 9am which was disappoinitng and to say the cheese and meats board looked like it came from a tesco packet of sliced meats is an understatement.

All in, while I did like the hotel and the staff are amazing, I think the price tag on this was too high for the experience. €360 is far too much for what the hotel offered - a 4 ft6 bed in a small room, at the front of the hotel on the main road with buses pulling up outside reugularly, a broken hot tap, a small breakfast and an understocked buffet.

If it had been €100 cheaper, I would not have said a thing. A mixed bag, unmemorable experience.

Dear Eoin, Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed and honest review. We're truly pleased to hear that you found our staff to be friendly and helpful, and that you appreciated the overall decor and cleanliness of the hotel. However, we sincerely regret that your experience wasn't as enjoyable as it should have been. We understand your concerns regarding the room placement and the noise from the street, and we apologize for the discomfort caused. Your feedback about the mattress, pillows, and the issues with the tap are invaluable, and we’ll certainly address these matters with our maintenance team to ensure these inconveniences are resolved. Regarding breakfast, we're disappointed that it didn’t meet your expectations, and we’ll be reviewing our buffet offerings and ensuring that items are replenished in a timely manner. We also appreciate your comments on the portion size of the black and white pudding, and we’ll be sure to communicate this with our team. Once again, we truly value your feedback, as it helps us improve. We do hope you will consider giving us another chance in the future and that your next stay will offer a much more seamless experience. Best regards, Eoghan Hedderman sales@imperialhotelcork.ie

The building is historic and beautiful. The management is condescending and unprofessional. I’d say when multiple reviews cite customer service issues or cleanliness issues, then there may be something to it.

Our flights were diverted and we missed our connection from JFK to Dublin due to storms. We emailed to notify the hotel as soon as we landed in Syracuse (from the plane on the tarmac). It was about 18 hours before our check in. Their policy is 24 hours.

Long story short, after losing a whole day of our anniversary trip, we had to basically beg them to consider not charging us for the room for missing the cut off by a few hours. We provided proof that it was a Delta problem. They sat us in a room for 30 minutes to wait and see why they deliberated on if they would charge us or not. (Weird). They never even came to get us. We had to ask them again and remind them we were in there. Ultimately, they had an opportunity to do the customer service side of it and they chose to charge us for the extra night. It was embarrassing to be treated like we were trying to pull something. The manager never even came out to talk to us, just had the desk clerk deliver the message.

Policy is policy. (As they reminded us condescendingly). I get it. It was close enough and not due to our fault, so we asked for a minor exception and they chose a few bucks over doing the right thing.

The hotel is beautiful. Breakfast was good. The shower water was luke warm at best. The air didn’t work in the room. It was humid and uncomfortable. Probably more to do with the age of the building than anything else, but makes me wonder if it’s management making poor choices elsewhere. The room felt not tidy and the bathroom was definitely not as clean as you’d want it to be. There was a mildew or something in it. I felt itchy after showering. Probably in my head.

I wouldn’t support them again and would rather spend my money elsewhere in Cork.

We stayed at the Imperial hotel on a Friday night in a triple room for 300€, parking was an additional 15euro for the night the car park is around 7minutes walk from the hotel. The decor in the hotel is beautiful we have stayed before and loved it, staff in this hotel were amongst the best and the evening meal here was just beautiful. We felt the check out at 11am Was too early and A bit greedy, we went for breakfast at 10am by the time our order was in and breakfast came and we ate , it was close to 11am then the lift cards had stopped working due to near check out Time I presume. I think with a few tweaks not having the cards cut off at just before11 would really improve the overall stay. We would probably return but I would shop around first and check the other hotels In area offering a 12pm check out as normal.

Dear Ash , Thank you so much for taking the time to complete a review of your stay with us here at the Imperial Hotel. With regards to your comments, I am sorry that you were not happy with the 11 am departure which would be pretty much the industry norm for city center hotels. Quite why it justified a two-star rating I am not sure. Thank you for the feedback and I am available at your convenience should you wish to discuss the matter further, Yours sincerely, Eoin Daly. I have debated long and hard about posting this review but I feel it's necessary for any couples planning an intimate wedding or celebration here.

We had our wedding in the imperial this November. It was a complete disappointment. We had such faith in the venue in the lead up and were so excited to host our small wedding here . The hotel is absolutely
stunning and the decorations were a dream but apart from that Unfortunately it does not seem that smaller weddings are given any importance or value .

We couldn't have been made feel less important or special on the day . We were totally ignored by the coordinator who we had had plenty of communication with prior so were really taken aback by this on the day.

For the drinks reception our guests had no idea where to go as no one was there to show them . The prosecco was horribly presented in wine glasses , the canapes were just left on one table meaning guests didn't have access to them without asking the people sitting at the table if they could have some . We were assured we would have some canapes left aside for us to enjoy together before entering the room with a drink .This never happened. We created a playlist for the drinks reception with songs that were important to us. This was never played. When The meal was ready I was asked to gather up the guests , I have never seen a couple have to coordinate this .

The meal in sketch was an absolute disaster . People waiting for their main courses over 45 minutes while others were on their desserts . I had to chase up some main courses for guests several times . Some guests never even received desserts . It was completely chaotic and we were so embarrassed that our guests weren't properly looked after or fed. Wine was supposed to be poured freely this did not happen .

The following morning we were made to feel a total nuisance at breakfast for wanting to sit with our guests that had stayed in the hotel for the celebration. There was a big error made with the bill which left me standing embarrassed at the reception as they tried to rectify it . One member of reception staff was incredibly rude as they couldn't figure it out .
It was evident I was upset with the issues that had occured. I would have really appreciated being brought into a room to have a proper discussion instead of trying to sort it in public at the reception desk. I've staff member Geraldine was incredibly helpful and understanding.
To be completely transparent we were given a discount and a gift bag from the spa as a result of the issues highlighted. I acknowledge this but it money was never the problem we would have paid double the cost had we been treated as valued guests/customers . A senior member of management came out to reception and made a watery attempt to talk to me but didn't allow any space for me to explain what had happened . He made a comment about our honeymoon and ran away .
An apology was made by the coordinator and reception staff with plenty of excuses but regardless we will never get to have our day again with our most important family and friends . It has left us both embarrassed for the experience our guests had and upset . We would not even consider returning to the hotel in the future as it doesn't hold good memories for us .

Dear Stacey, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience regarding your recent wedding at our hotel. I am deeply sorry to hear that your special day did not meet your expectations and that you encountered issues that left you and your guests disappointed. It is truly disheartening to learn that the level of service you received was not in line with what we strive to provide, especially on such an important occasion. I apologize for the lack of attention from our coordinator, the poor presentation and availability of canapes, and the failure to play your specially curated playlist. These details are crucial to making your event memorable, and it is clear that we fell short. I am also very sorry for the issues experienced during the meal in the Restaurant. The delays and inconsistencies in serving your guests are unacceptable, and I understand how this would have been embarrassing and frustrating for you. The lack of freely poured wine and the mishandling of the breakfast seating the following morning further compounded these disappointments. Regarding the billing error and the unprofessional manner in which it was handled, I apologize for the added stress and embarrassment this caused. It is concerning that a member of our reception staff was rude and that the issue was not addressed privately. I am glad to hear that Geraldine was helpful, but I regret that this situation detracted from your overall experience. While I appreciate that you acknowledged the discount and gift bag from the spa, I understand that no compensation can replace the lost opportunity to have a perfect day. Your feedback highlights significant areas where we need to improve, and I assure you that we will address these issues with our team to prevent such occurrences in the future. Please know that your experience is not reflective of the standard we aim to uphold. If you would be willing to discuss this further, I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you directly to better understand all the details and to offer a more personal apology. Once again, I am deeply sorry for the disappointments you faced on what should have been a joyous occasion. Thank you for bringing these matters to our attention. Warmest regards, Eoghan Hedderman sales@imperialhotelcork.ie

Entering the front door, one is dazzled by glittering chandeliers and elegant appointments. The meticulous attention to detail did not show up in our room. The bed was comfortable, the room was large, and the bathroom had modern tiling, sink and toilet. In terms of cleanliness, I would rate the room a 4 because there were slight indictions of mold in the shower and there were dirty fingermarks around the door knob on the inside of the bathroom, showing that area had not had any attention for a while. Most annoying was that the painted wood facing in front of the tub had obviously been damaged by water, being warped and bubbly-looking. Apparently the leak had been fixed, but rather than replace the damaged material, the hotel chose to apply a new coat of paint over the damage, which did nothing to disguise it or minimize the distraction from the acceptable aesthtics otherwise apparent in the room.

We are traveling in Ireland for three and a half weeks, and we have already stayed in more than ten hotels. Without a doubt, the Imperial was the most disappointing, particularly because it was the most expensive and our expectations were for luxury.

Dear 54SRB, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent stay with us. We genuinely value your input and are truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. It's disappointing to learn that while you appreciated the elegance of our entrance and some aspects of your room, other elements did not reflect the high standards we strive to maintain. We sincerely apologize for the cleanliness issues you encountered and the condition of the bathroom fittings. Your observations about the mold, fingermarks, and damaged wood facing are concerning, and we have shared your comments with our housekeeping and maintenance teams to address these issues immediately. We understand how frustrating it is when expectations for luxury are not met, especially considering the price paid. Please rest assured that we are taking your feedback seriously and are committed to making the necessary improvements. We hope you might consider giving us another chance in the future to provide you with the superior experience that so many of our guests enjoy. The hotel has an old charm with beautiful antique furnitures. The room was quite spacious but the bathroom was tiny. The funny thing was that the wash basin had two taps, separate for hot and cold water. Couldn't figure out how to get the right temperature. The cleanliness and the linen was excellent which makes a lot of difference.
I don't know whether this applies for all the rooms or just for our room- we felt that the floor was sloping towards the corridor, which was a laughing matter between us.
However, the location is superb with many restaurants and bars around the corner. There are many shopping places nearby.
Staff was very warm and helpful.
Overall we had a great stay.

Overall, this hotel is a nice hotel but what you get does not justify the cost. I was charged €390 for one night for two people without breakfast. For this cost I would expect great customer service but this was not the case. The welcome at reception was really lacking with the lady just going through the motions. The room is nice but it is not €390 nice. There was some noise coming from a nearby bar so they should consider sound proofing the windows. Everything in the room was clean and working but you expect more than that from a hotel charging so much. I would recommend that the owners look at the experience they are offering and either lower the cost or improve the service.

Responded 9 Dec 2024
Dear 18aw, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. I sincerely apologize that your recent stay did not meet your expectations, especially considering the price point. We strive to provide excellent service and a memorable experience, and I'm sorry to hear that we fell short during your visit. Your feedback regarding the welcome at reception and the overall value for money is greatly appreciated, and I will ensure it is passed on to the relevant teams for review and improvement. Additionally, I’m sorry to hear about the noise disturbance from nearby bars—this is certainly something we will consider in our ongoing efforts to enhance guest comfort. We truly value your input and hope you will give us another opportunity to demonstrate the high standards we aim to offer. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at sales@imperialhotelcork.ie for further concerns or if you'd like to discuss your experience in more detail. Warmest regards, Eoghan Hedderman sales@imperialhotelcork.ie

Where is the best place to park ?
Answer from Eoin Daly
Cork, Ireland2 helpful votes
Dear Sorrywhat7, We are happy to provide a limited number of car park spaces at the Union Quay car park, which is a private car park approximately a 4 minute walk from the Imperial Hotel Cork. The charge for the car park at the moment is €10.00 per day from 3pm on arrival to 12 noon on check out. You will need to check in to the hotel to get a pass for the car park. There is a set down area just outside our front door where you can leave your car for a few minutes while you check in. Our porters will be happy to deliver your luggage to your room while you park your car. Maximum height is 2 meters within the car park. We cannot pre-book parking, therefore, spaces are on a first come basis. Parking is free on South Mall directly opposite the main door of the hotel between 6.30pm and 8.30am from Monday to Saturday and all day Sunday. Have a fantastic day, The Imperial Hotel Family
