We’ve been staying in B&B accommodation for the past week & used Trip Adviser to help in our decision making. This is ok and that’s all I can say. The room & house seemed tired & not close to earlier booked rooms. The breakfast was very limited with little choice & we had to ask for everything, toast, tea etc. If you want to stay in truly 5 star B&B’s then check my ratings. It is quite easy to walk into town & yes a list of possible eateries was provided. Seems maybe harsh but I’d never rate this so high, in fact it was the poorest place we stayed.
My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at Knocklyon House for 3 nights in July. What sets this b&b apart from any other I’ve visited is the outstanding hospitality of Kieran and Kathleen. We arrived by bus from Dublin and Kieran offered to pick us up at the bus stop, and on the way to Knocklyon he gave us a tour of Ennis, pointing out the best restaurants, things to see, etc. When we mentioned our intention to ride at Castlefergus the next day, he then arranged for a taxi driver who is a friend of his to pick us up & take us there, and for the owner of Castlefergus to give us a lift to Quin where we could have lunch and explore. There was a music festival that weekend in Ennis, and Kieran suggested that we might be interested in a concert at Glor by Irish fiddler Martin Hayes. What an amzing experience that was, and to top it off, Kieran & Kathleen were also at the concert and gave us a lift back at the end. I could go on and on, but I hope I’ve communicated just how special these people are.…
Spent one night in Ennis on our way from Galway to Dingle. After a warm welcome, Kieran and Kathleen took great care of us and steered us to a great place to eat in Ennis (a short 15min walk away). They also provided us with maps where they marked the Ennis sights. Great breakfast! Kieran recommended we recommended we stop in Adare on our way south which we enjoyed more than Bunratty Castle (also on the way). We will definitely keep the Knocklyon House in our future travel plans.
My husband and I stayed at the Knocklyon House on April 5th and 6th. Kieran and Kathleen were incredible hosts. Our room was lovely and ready for us when we arrived on Friday morning. Kieran made arrangements for us to be picked up at the airport. He also arranged for a driver to take us to The Burren on Saturday. Kathleen made a lovely and delicious breakfast each morning. The home is about a 10-15 minute walk into the town of Ennis. It is an easy walk and no problem at night. Don't hesitate to book this B and B because of its location. We would definitely stay with Kieran and Kathleen again! Slainte!
Really loved staying here at Knocklyon House B&B. Ciarán was a very friendly host and really made us feel welcome. We had a delicious breakfast. The room was also lovely - very clean and well kept, as was the rest of the house :)
Two nights in cosy Ennis were enough to experience the friendly feeling of its habitants! We went at Knocklyon House by a last moment decision and we were not deceived. Kieran and his wife Kathleen made our stay a truly relaxing and home like! The room was very pretty and had something of aristocracy but at the same time it was familiar and welcoming. Fully equipped with hairdryer, internet, excellent breakfast prepared by the great cook Kathleen. Kieran offered from the first day to give us ride to the city center and to inform us about everything we wanted. These to people made us feel like home away from home. We will be definitely back!
We recently had a 2 night stay. The room was very comfortable, spotlessly clean. Full Irish breakfast in the morning was beautifully cooked and kept us going for the day. We forgot to unplug the cool box in the car on the first night and came out to a flat battery the following morning. After a couple of failed attempts to get going, we were about to use our breakdown cover but Kieran was determined to get us going, suggesting that we would be waiting all day for help to arrive. He went to speak to his local garage and sure enough when he returned he had all the necessary information to get our car started. To summarise, this is definitely the best experience we have had in a B&B ie the quality of the accommodation, the breakfast, the house and surround and finally the outstanding hospitality. A massive thank you and look forward to seeing you again.…
We stay for one night in Knocklyon House – a great experience altogether. The ground floor room was well appointed, including a very comfortable double bed. The ensuite bathroom was a little small but more than ample – and squeaky clean. Breakfast in the gracious dinning room was generous, with a wide variety of juices and cereals, plus the “full Irish” cooked breakfast the could have been the meal of the day. For dinner we took our hosts recommendation and walked into old Ennis and found an excellent restaurant much to our liking. The walk was about 15 minutes – no problem with our hosts’ good directions. When in Ennis Knocklyon House is a very good choice – excellent accommodations, great breakfast, gracious and friendly hosts and easy access to the city and highways. A great place that we would go back to in an instant.…
My husband and I stayed here with our 2 teens ages 17 & 19. Unfortunately, it was for only one night. This was my favorite place we stayed in Ireland mostly because our host, Kieran was so amazing (we didn’t meet his wife, Kathleen.) Kieran called us ahead of time to make arrangements to pick us up at the train station so that he could bring us to his home. On the way he drove us around the beautiful and quaint town of Ennis. After, he showed us to our room and gave us bottled water, he gave us a map with recommendations with places to visit and places to eat. He’s obviously proud of his hometown and rightly should be. The home is lovely. We stayed in the immaculately clean family room, a large room that is actually 2 rooms with the door taken down. It is a twin room with a double room attached and the bathroom is on the double room side. The shower is hot and has great water pressure. The beds are comfy and we slept well. We went downtown for dinner and had an excellent one while also stopping at several other places to have pre-dinner drinks, all recommendations. A hot breakfast is in a large dining room and is made to order. It was excellent and backs up to a beautiful backyard. The morning we left, Kieran arranged for a taxi to take us to the Shannon airport, a 30 minute drive away. We would be honored to go visit again.…
Kieran and Kathleen were lovely hosts! The room as VERY CLEAN and the BED was VERY COMFORTABLE. We were in town during the Beast from the East snow storm so we were unable to really see the town, however, the hospitality that was shown to us was unforgettable. The breakfast was very nice and the view from the breakfast table was amazing. Highly recommend this B&B and hope to return for trip number SIX!
