The rooms were nice and the beds were very comfortable and quiet. The hotel is in a good location. The hotel was quiet at night. The hotel breakfast was good and served in a spacious area. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
Lovely old world charm. Beautiful comfortable room. The lobby area has many sitting rooms for gatherings. The pub is very busy and gives an old world essence of times gone by, poets, writers all gathering. Very quaint but noisy. The staff is wonderful and friendly. This hotel is right in city center, walkable to any shopping or eating. I would highly recommend!
While visiting Ennis this establishment was recommended by a shop owner. Quick and professional service. Excellent food at a moderate price. Well presented with a friendly smile. Hot and tasty. Well worth a visit.
The Old Ground is one of our favorite hotels in Ireland. Perfectly located toward the center of Ennis, an adorable town in County Clare. The hotel is charming - with an inviting lobby, wonderful live music in the Poet's corner and delicious food in the Town Hall. The "full Irish" breakfast in the breakfast dining room is not to be missed! Staff are warm and helpful. Rooms have been renovated and are nicely appointed, with wonderful bedding and mattresses. We'll be back!
This is a gracious old hotel and reminds me of the elegant old hotels in NYC. The hotel is decorated beautifully and there is extensive seating to loll around in the lobby areas. The staff is also super friendly and helpful. Rooms are very large and the bed large and very comfortable. The breakfast was included with our hotel charge and it was bountiful and delicious. I loved almost everything about this hotel, with one exception. There is very spotty Wifi in the hotel rooms. Since this is an old hotel it's probably a challenge to provide good internet service, but they should really do something about this. When paying these prices for hotels, we expect that everything is just right. Other than that, this is a very lovely stay right in the heart of Ennis.
This was our second stay at The Old Ground. We enjoyed our first stay so well that we returned. This is a classic old hotel with a very attentive staff and a high level of service. The desk staff took care of us. The hotel is very well located. It is a short walk to every pub, store and restaurant in Ennis. If you don't want to go out, the Poets Corner Pub is in the building and has music on occasion. Sitting in the lobby of the Old Ground watching the world go by is my happy place.
This is probably my 20th stay at Old Ground, and it never disappoints. The warm and friendly reception staff is the perfect introduction to this fine establishment. The rooms are well appointed, perfectly clean and comfortable. The restaurant is exceptional for fine dining and the pub is lively with great food and music. There is no better location in Ennis. All the shops and sites are literally outside the door.
We were disappointed in the Old Ground after hearing great things. The rooms looks tired.Yes there are new drapes, headboard,&lamps . However when you look closely the room is need of attention. You know the saying you can put lipstick on a pig , but it’s still a pig!! That sums things up IMO. I will try to add photos On a positive note their restaurant -The Town Hall, was excellent ,as was the Service .
We‘ve been living at The Old Ground for two weeks completing the purchase of our Ennis home. Our quarters, a King size room, is quiet, super clean and modern with what appears to be a recent renovation. Hotel personell are very friendly and attentive, making for a relaxed stay. The morning breakfast service is delectable with prompt, pleasant staff. Breakfast featured traditional Irish fare, most noteworthy, any egg dish, excessive portions of smoked Irish salmon and fresh pan fried fish. While the Irish are not known for their coffee, the noble bean is paramount here. Top coffee and cappuccino is served hot and fresh. The first floor gastropub is one of the best dining options in this beautiful medieval city. Ennis is not to be missed and the place to stay is The Old Ground. Thank you, thank you.…
Great location , pretty much in the center of town but still very quite and peaceful, "The Poets Corner" pub is great and the food is Fab, the staff are really great and very friendly and helpful, cannot wail to return.
