#6 of 18 hotels in Pitlochry
Travellers' Choice
Fonab Castle is a wonderful and historic building on the banks of Loch Faskally, by Pitlochry. It has been transformed by the Clark family into a fabulous and glamorous new 5 Star hotel. The hotel offers 42 bedrooms, including 4 suites and a luxurious Penthouse suite (a number with loch views). The hotel brasserie and lounge provide outstanding vistas of the loch itself and Sandemans, our fine dining restaurant, is a tranquil setting for experiencing exquisite cuisine and fine wines. The Woodland Spa at Fonab offers a host of pampering and relaxation experiences, with Thermal Suite, Jacuzzi, swimming pool, treatment rooms, nail bar and pedicures. We look forward to welcoming you to a unique experience.”

Stayed for 1 night in a loch view room which had its own balcony to enjoy the views and peaceful location. The hotel is very nicely furnished with big windows in the brasserie and bar upstairs making the most of the great views over the loch. Our only small complaint was that at dinner in the brasserie there were some food and drink items not available and some of the dishes were not as described on the menu. Having said that, the food was good and only a small issue.

Fonab Castle is a lovely old house, tastefully extended, in a prime spot in woodland overlooking Loch Faskally. The rooms are of a high standard and comfortable. We had a loch view with outdoor seating, which got the sun in the morning, to enjoy after breakfast. The best views were from the Lounge and Dining room, both situated in the modern glass walled extension. Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. The main restaurant offered good choice for dinner and breakfast and Sandemans a more intimate dining experience. Overall the food was excellent. The Spa area was good, and it was a pleasant surprise to be able to relax outside on comfortable loungers to enjoy the great weather. The hotel is just across the river from Pitlochry, a pleasant 10-15 minute stroll, with good country walks in all directions. A lovely, relaxing hotel, perfect for a weekend break in the Highlands.

Superb. From the minute you arrive to when you leave, you are made to feel special. Attentive staff who all greet you and enquire after your welfare and needs. From the highly efficient reception ( who allowed us an early access to our room as we arrive 3 hours earlier than expected ) through concierge with helpful information and friendly restaurant staff. A special mention for Thomas in the lounge bar, friendly, attentive and his knowledge and recommendations a great help, a nice young man and an asset to the hotel. The room we had in the castle was excellent, large but well presented and equipped. Bathroom super too. We cannot wait to return.

This place exceeded our expectations. The staff could not do enough to help from check in to check out. Thomas in the bar was so knowledgeable about the wide range of drinks. Daniel and Antonio in the restaurant were attentive without being intrusive. Everyone we met was superb. The chefs produced delicious food, we had the cote de boeuf and it was excellent. As was the breakfast. Sadly we didn't have time to take advantage of the Spa or pool. Our room was beautifully decorated and appointed. Very comfortable indeed, although we had the forest view in the lodge rather than the Loch view or a castle room. None of the pictures on this website do the view from the restaurant or bar justice. You really need to see it for yourself. We took the forest walk down in to Pitlochry which was lovely, through the woods and over the Dam. Then down the high street and across the footbridge making a lovely circuit. This is a terrific hotel. We would love to return some day.

Unfortunately we had booked during a time when some construction work was being carried out and had a JCB driving up and down past our patio therefore couldn’t sit out as it was so close and noisy. We were also given a disabled room which we hadn’t booked although it did have 2 bathrooms of which one was fine. Had we been informed prior to arrival of this then we could have changed our dates
