Travellers' Choice
Fonab Castle is a wonderful and historic building on the banks of Loch Faskally, by Pitlochry. It has been transformed by the Clark family into a fabulous and glamorous new 5 Star hotel. The hotel offers 42 bedrooms, including 4 suites and a luxurious Penthouse suite (a number with loch views). The hotel brasserie and lounge provide outstanding vistas of the loch itself and Sandemans, our fine dining restaurant, is a tranquil setting for experiencing exquisite cuisine and fine wines. The Woodland Spa at Fonab offers a host of pampering and relaxation experiences, with Thermal Suite, Jacuzzi, swimming pool, treatment rooms, nail bar and pedicures. We look forward to welcoming you to a unique experience.”

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our stay was faultless. From the genuinely warm welcome on arrival we knew we had picked a great venue. The hotel bar and restaurants are very well appointed. The view of the Loch whilst relaxing in the bar ticks the instagram box. The tasting menu in Sandemans was exquisite and rivalled anything I've had previously. The (Castle) room was luxurious and comfortable. The spa facilities (pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna) were an added bonus. Our only disappointment was we stayed for a single night. Our next visit will be for longer.

Service perfect not overpowering which can happen in this standard of hotel. Treated with respect and not as old people. Perfect break. The breakfast is simply the best with fabulous views. You must go to the Fonabe Hotel.

We stayed 2 nights. The food and staff were excellent. We especially enjoyed Breakfast.we were disappointed with the quality of the lodge room. We had no view and the interior required upgrade and refreshing. The price does not reflect what is being offered. As stated the quality of food and staff have saved the day.

The hospitality from the moment we got to Fonab - literally before we stepped out the car - was superb. Mark greeted us and couldn’t be more welcoming. Everyone was warm, friendly and helpful. The rooms were lovely, topped with the best bed I’ve slept in at a hotel. The food and service were great, and Steven made the best cocktails! The concierge’s helped me plan an action packed weekend for my husband’s 40th; with clay pigeon shooting and white water rafting, and it was the best weekend. We wish we could have stayed longer!

From the moment we arrived and we’re greeted by the concierge and given a tor of the hotel we were made to feel very special. All staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and could not fault the service from anyone. Room in the castle was gorgeous only thing missing would be a small fridge. The service in the bar was first class and cocktails were amazing. We ate in the 1892 restaurant and food was delicious with generous portions, as was breakfast the following day. We loved the setting of the hotel and really enjoyed the outdoor hot tub. Would love to return although it is quite expensive so would be for a special treat!

On our 3rd visit to Fonab Castle Hotel we had a wonderful time. The hotel is in a great location with amazing views. Lovely walk around Loch Faskally into Pitlochry. The staff were all very welcoming and the room overlooked the Loch. Looking forward to our next visit.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay at Fonab in a Woodland Superior room. Our room was spacious, bed comfortable and lovely bathroom and the lodges are only a few steps from the main entrance of the hotel. Breakfast was delicious, with a good choice of of food and drinks. We ate dinner in the bistro, which was also superb. The hotel is only a short walk into the town of Pitlochry, and on the route of many other woodland walks, which we enjoyed. The walk is on uneven ground so would not suit everyone, but we believe there is a concierge service for less able guests. We were disappointed in the spa facilities. The pool area was quite small with only 6 loungers for all guests. We found the pool on the cold side, and the hot tub was very small so we had to wait a few turns to get access to this. There is an outdoor hut tub and one on the upper floor, but both were switched off. The resistance pool outside was also cold, and then closed on our 2nd day. The thermal suite has an aromatherapy room, steam room and sauna as well as a cold rain shower. There were no directions for the aromatherapy room, which felt cool on entering but the seats were blistering warm, so much so that I burned my back. I did point this out on exit and was told that many people sit on towels or wear their robes - a sign to this effect would have been useful! We also found the steam room much cooler than other spas we have visited. The one thing we found exceptional throughout the hotel was the staff. The service from everyone was second to none, including when we booked on the telephone. The meet and greet involved a small show round and history of the castle which was a lovely touch. Everyone greeted and chatted to us when we were walking around, including the cleaning and maintenance staff as they went about their business. We would recommend and would be more than happy to stay again.
