Travellers' Choice
Situated directly opposite Loch Linnhe, you can admire the fantastic views of the beautiful surrounding wooded hills and mountains from this hotel. Along with the dining room and pleasant lounge area, all front facing rooms offer super views of the breathtaking Loch Linnhe. The comfortable lounge and ballroom host entertainment most nights, often with a distinct Scottish flavour which is perfect for unwinding after a day’s sightseeing or exploring. A number of rooms have been recently refurbished to increase the capacity at this popular hotel and there is a convenient lift that serves all floors. At nine miles long and over a mile wide and with Ben Nevis towering above, Loch Linnhe is one of Scotland’s natural treasures. The hotel is also just two miles south of the town centre of Fort William, known as the outdoor capital of Britain, and here you can explore the many small and interesting shops and museums.

Arrived on Monday for a break until Friday. Good parking availability (no charge) and all staff friendly. Public areas were smart and refurbished but our room was very tired and needs a good revamp. Carpet had seen better days and headboard to bed dirty. Shower excellent but bathroom needed work. Great view from bedroom window but roadworks opposite spolit the view (may be there for some time?) The bar had limited stock and had run out of some beers and wines. Delivery expected (apparently!?) Now the food. Staff very attentive especially the lovely twins. Food basic and menu was a single sheet of paper. Half way through the week we were told senior management were visiting and Hey Presto, posh menus appeared and food improved. They went and we returned to normal! A tad strange So, in conclusion. Staff lovely, position good, rooms need updating and bar/food needs to go up a notch.

Rooms look NOTHING like the listing photos! Hotel is further away from the centre than advertised(50 mins walk rather than 30) Rooms in desperate need of an update/refurb There was 1 plug in the entire room!! Room was way too warm even with the heating off - we had to ask for a fan which was brought up to the room and did not work properly either. Automatic extractor in the bathroom does not make the slightest difference Sealing around the bathtub was coming off Rusted door hinges in the bathroom Room smells stuffy and mouldy No wifi in the rooms!!! No one cleaned the rooms/changed the towels during our 3 night stay Extremely uncomfortable spring bed Torn bed sheets Was told by the receptionist to ask for a refurbished room next time!? If you know it's not up to standard don't offer it to guests!! We tried to get another room elsewhere but everything was booked due to it being a bank holiday weekend so was forced to stay there.

First up - staff were superb, really good - everyone from reception to food and bar service. But Hotel needs maintenance - first room door lock didn't work, second room door did't fit frame, hot water through cold tap, pipe noises during the night. Great staff let down by owners who need to fix the physical faults.

Our tour to the Outer Hebrides, involved train to Mallaig, included a nights stay here. The rooms are average but bathrooms have been upgraded. Small beds and hardly any toiletries. Whilst the pre-ordered dinner service was ok breakfast service was a farce. We (25) were asked to arrive together and that was an issue. The kitchen could not cope with the sudden rush of orders thus caused. Many of us got the wrong order and some had nothing but toast. May be ok for smaller groups but our Hotel in Stornaway had a much better system in place to cope with us.

We booked a 3 night stay here as part of a few short trips for my husbands birthday. The outer building itself could do with some tidying up and we both commented on this when we arrived and prepared ourselves for disappointment. How wrong we were!!!! The staff were friendly and helpful, not over the top but very welcoming. The room was basic looking but the bed was really comfy and we both slept really well. After climbing Ben Nevis we discovered that the old school looking shower was one of the best ever, hot and powerful, not the usual lukewarm trickle some of your purple roomed establishment's have. The quality of the breakfast was first class and a really surprising amount of choice. Location is fab, half an hour walk along the Loch and you're in Fort William. If there was WiFi available I would have given this a 5. We left in agreement that we will be back.
