A traditional high street hotel offering excellent value for money - a grand old building needing a little updating but it's clean, warm and tidy with pleasant staff. The cooked breakfast is very good. Limited parking at the side of the building but this is no problem as there is plenty of free parking within yards of the hotel. With...

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at, the rooms are grubby and smell awful. The staff need to go on a customer service course as I think being rude to guests and virtually throwing your breakfast on the table is not acceptable. If this hotel does by some miracle stay open, I think they should rethink their...

The Royal dominates the main street in Thurso. It's a large, rambling, maze of a place. I've stayed there for over ten years and in that time it's not changed much. That said it's cheap as chips, the rooms are basic but do the job and it's warm and cosy. Breakfasts included and is also good if you dig a...

There are limited places to stay in Thurso, our room was very dated, a slight smell of mustiness and the bathroom had mildew adorning the tiles. If there had of been anywhere else to stay and we had drove 6 hours to get there we would have left. Needs to be updated.

This is an old hotel, and much used, however, my room was clean, comfortable, quiet, the right temperature and I had no complaints. The building is made up of connecting buildings so the hallways are somewhat of a maze, but not a big problem. The staff was friendly and informative. We did not eat in the hotel diningroom because of...

I stayed at this hotel while on a tour. I will not be traveling with that company ever again. Yes, I understand that there are few choices for places to stay when in the Highlands during the time I was there. BUT... The elevator didn't work, the rooms difficult to find (one person on our tour stopped at the emergency...

The hotel is well positioned in the centre of town, it is an old hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was good. I stayed in a single room (Room 67), which was out at the back courtyard and was very small, one night was probably long enough. For the price I paid (£50) it was acceptable.

First impression as we walked in, definitely in need of refurbishment. The lift is the oldest, ricketiest machine I have ever been in. Our room could have been bigger but had all the amenities we required even if incredibly old fashioned and in need of upgrading. Bathroom tiny and cramped with ancient electric shower and toilet. The sink was in...

Arrived to a warm welcome, we got it through a web site bookings.com and we were given a room out with the hotel which felt weird at 1st but actually it was modern and clean and good heating in the chalet type room. Had food 1st night it was good and breakfast there was ample servings on the plate and...
