Externally it's a concrete tower, internally the red yellow carpets and dark wood tell of a bygone age. Other reviewers suggest behind the times and in need of an update. Me, myself I loved being 'checked in' in person by warm and friendly staff. Having travelled a long way to the hotel, being made welcome on arrival counts for something. The room on the fifth floor was clean and bright, the bed firm with crisp cotton sheets, bathroom was a shower in the bath (if I could change just one thing....). The shower was hot and water plentiful. I liked the 'Green Mandarin soap and shampoo sets. Great selection of channels of the TV - good to have BBC News included in the selection. There was complimentary tea and coffee with ceramic and take away paper cups. I had supper away from the hotel, so nothing to report on the eateries. However I must recommend the bar, a good selection of quality whiskeys, served by warm friendly and knowledgeable staff. Somewhere I should mention the snack vending machine in the lift lobby on each floor. Dear Marriott Hotels, When the time comes to update your Glasgow hotel, you must look after every member of staff, No amount of chrome and spotlights will outshine the team you have in this hotel.…
The hotel is worn and rundown, really needs refurbishment. The toilet didn’t flush properly and extractor fan didn’t work. Would have been nice to have some body lotion as part of the sparse bathroom kit. The YouTube channel on the tv was good to keep the kids busy and the biscoff was a nice touch.
My family and I stayed here for 6 days while we attended a swimming competition at Tollcross Swimming pool. The location is fantastic as it is very central. We walked to the main streets, restuarants and shops in about 10 minutes. Lots around it. The hotel itself is dated. We had to move the first night because of a screeching noise, which would not stop around 9pm. It sounded like pipes (maybe someone taking a bath or shower) but it went on for at least 15 minutes and when my children were trying to sleep for a big competition was not ideal. The staff was extremely helpful and nice. The only reason I decreased the rating was due to the decor and furniture being quite old and dated. However, if you are looking for a good central hotel, then I would recommend this one.
Friendly checkin, nice sized room, although no “real” cups in room for coffee (possible due to COVID guidelines). Room sadly was far too hot and the controls didn’t help cool it. Breakfast was absolutely beautiful- really nice sausages, and will cook poached eggs to order. (Also offer omelettes as a breakfast option). Quick and easy checkout too. 10-15 minute walk to north Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street train stations.
I have stayed at this hotel about 10 times. It’s location is great in that it’s close to everything but quiet as well. I generally rate hotels on 3 essential characteristics: Bed: 10/10 Water pressure: 10/10 Internet: 1/10 It has a great breakfast with omelette server & haggis. The hotel is relaxing and the service is good. If however you have any desire to use the internet and do not want to pay imaginary surcharges for the “premium” then you will have to look elsewhere. Upload speeds are less than 1Mps - so voice calls or heavy emails are basically not possible. Download speeds are about 2Mps so just about good enough for internet browser. I haven’t experienced internet speeds this slow as long as I can remember. I am also unwilling to accept that I should need to pay for a “premium” internet connection on top of EUR 150 for the room when any pub/restaurant/hotel in the country provides it for free.…
