The hotel is great - so why only 4 stars? The receptionist was very attentive and helpful, The room was fine. The swimming pool / fitness area was very clean and pleasant, and the staff there were very friendly and helpfull, nothing was too much trouble for them. They very patiently made sure I understood how to use the lockers. The rooms were only cleaned during our stay if you requested it by leaving a plaque on the door. We did not bother - quite happy to fend for ourselves and anything needed could be requested from reception (towels, toilet paper etc.) The room had a fantastic view looking towards Goliath and the TV studios. So why only 4 stars? Because the hotel is very badly let down by the Marriner restaurant and bar. I will be leaving another review on their page, but because of them, the hotel only got a four (and that was generous, after our experience of the restaurant). Very disappointed that the carvery we had experienced pre-covid was not available, although I see reading reviews on here that it was available in March 2022! The great staff in the hotel are very let down by the bar and restaurant.…
A friend had booked to stay at the Crowne Plaza and we had agreed to meet here for food and drinks before a big event. When we arrived around 19:30, we were told no food was being served for now and to come back in 20 mins. We were slightly disappointed by this but we opted to wait in the bar and have some drinks… Service on the bar set the tone for the evening. My partner went up to get served. Three bar staff were stood behind the bar, two looked at her and one, reluctantly, made their way over. The speed of service was lacklustre, especially given how ‘busy’ the bar/restaurant was made out to be. They ran out of Tennents, which for a Saturday isn’t great, so we got some bottles, wine and spirits. 20 mins passed, I enquired to the waiter about a table. He’d totally forgotten about us and told me it’d be another 20 minute wait. No member of staff appeared to have a clue, or care, to what was going on. We had to run along to the Cranside Inn where thankfully they accommodated us and we quickly ate so we didn’t miss the event. I know the Crowne is not a cheap hotel, so at their prices you’d expect better customer care and all round service from the whole hotel team. Clueless from top to bottom.…
Good one night stay for a concert. Wet convenient location. Nice spacious room with everything you would need and 2 double beds, which is just an added luxury Had a lovely meal in the restaurant. Good value and attentive staff Breakfast the following morning was plentiful and excellent value with plenty of choice and selection Will definitely be back!
The room was not available until 3.00pm even though we arrived at 12.15pm. The room was for a disabled person even though neither of us is disabled at all. When I queried this at reception they very politely said "you didn't book it directly with us so you get what we give you"... The room was very hot and when we left at 7.00pm to go to our concert I put the aircon on high at 10 degree's to cool it down. When we returned at 10.45pm the room was even hotter than when we left. I called reception and the duty manager came straight away to correctly set the air con. After 2mins he said "oh - its not working but I can't give you another room as we are fully booked". I will get someone to bring you a fan and see if that helps". The fan they sent was huge and very noisy indeed. The room as about 25 degrees and just to hot to stay in so we decided to leave and go home rather than have a sweaty uncomfortable night there. I went to reception all packed and ready to leave at 11.15pm. The duty manager said you don't have to go as I have a cancellation in a suite.... (he didn't have one 20 mins earlier and who cancels a booking at 11.30pm at night !) I was very unhappy and so told him no thanks I am packed and leaving now - he offered me a credit note for when we came again and I laughed at his optimism and refused. It was a genuine relief to get out of there. Due to the dreadful experience I then had a 5hr drive back to the Midlands. I will never stay in a Crown Plaza hotel again.…
We have just enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea here. They catered well for our needs of a mixture of gluten free and ordinary afternoon teas. In addition our grandson had a children's two course meal. Very attentive and pleasant staff. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel for dining.
