It's basic university digs with a single bedroom, shared bathroom and kitchen. All spotlessly clean and comfortable. The location is great to get into the city centre and see all the tourist spots. The guys on reception were very friendly. All in all, a nice cheap way to stay in Edinburgh!

The Metro Hostel is University Halls during term time, and it shows when you visit. The accommodation is very basic, but it's cheap and cheerful. You can rent a single room within an apartment - shared kitchen and bathroom, or for larger groups you can rent an apartment. I was a little apprehensive, travelling as a single woman, but it...

I decided to extend my stay in Edinbugh during Fringe, and this was basically the only place I could find to stay that wasn't hideously overpriced or far from the center, so I took a chance on a youth hostel (let's just say I am not a youth!) The location is great, although it is loud at night during the...

The Metro Hostel is located in the inner city of Edinburgh. Rooms are clean and you can use several common kitchens. The hostel has a good value for the central site. Its maybe not a hostel for partying, but the price is unbeatable (34 €/ night for a single room). The service could be better.

Hello, Thanks for taking the time to review and let us know about your stay with us. We are on the Cow gate which is where the best action for the Fringe is but it can get a little noisy during the fringe festival, we do try to warn guests about this on our info page but most guests who...

I was very pleased: a simple but clean and cheap place to stay right in the city center. Very helpful and friendly staff, felt welcome and safe. I'll definitely come back when I'll be in Edinburgh again!

This hostel is actually part of Edinburgh University and a student hall - which means it's accessible for outside visitors only during the summer holidays, July and August (dates vary slightly each year). For European visitors it may come as a surprise, but students at British colleges often have to remove all their stuff from their small flats during the...

This hostel is well located and provides private rooms that are very good. It is as if you were a student in a univeristy buildig. The only bad thing is the kitchen: not enough dishes, pans or forks AT ALL. The rest isfine. The staff was very helpful with my luggage and helped me get free storage in the next...

As the Hostel is used as Student accommodation, I was slightly apprehensive. Upon arrival I was pleasantly surprised. If these were my 'halls' at University, I would have been really happy. The room is basic but has everything required, desk & wardrobe etc. The bathroom was a generic shared bathroom, the kitchen & 'living room' area were pretty handy after...

I was her for two nights during summertime, Fringe Festival was on and plenty of sold out hotels around. As it was only for 2 nights, I tried the 'hostel beds'' and guess what…I'm satisfied (in the basic needs for such basic price). Wife very speedy, bed ok (not luxurious), and shared bathroom was not always occupied…some advantage in such...

Due to this being located in Edinburgh University's residences, the accommodation is of a very high standard. You will have a private room for the price of shared accommodation at many other hostels, the internet is very very quick and free, and most of all, the hostel is superbly located, walking distance from pretty much everything in Edinburgh.

Corneels d Thanks so much for your review of Edinburgh Metro Youth Hostel, really appreciate it. Come back and see us this year. Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Edinburgh Metro Youth Hostel will open for almost two months this summer, taking over Edinburgh University's halls of residence on the Cowgate, to provide budget accommodation for visitors to Scotland's capital in July and August. Edinburgh Metro accommodation is in single rooms only, within private apartments of 4, 5 and 6 rooms available to book. Each apartment has shared bathroom and kitchen facilities, with reception open 24 hours. Edinburgh Metro Youth Hostel is ideal for groups or individuals visiting the city. Wi-Fi during your stay: We do our best to deliver a free Wi-Fi service but apologise that connectivity, particularly in our rural locations, can be intermittent due to the level of our current broadband provision along with high usage when the youth hostel is busy. Please be assured we are endeavouring to improve where we can. We thank you for your patience and understanding. ... more   less
